Well tonite may have been the most beautiful venue we have played on this run. I am told that the venue is quite new, only about 3 months old, and boy is it sweet! You may be asking about the name, well as it turns out, Dan, the owner, just bought a church and the ajoining building. Well the adjoining building used to be a one room schoolhouse with a gym upstairs that was used by the church next door. The church next door is under renovation to become a larger room club. Should be awesome when it is done. The old gymnasium was converted into the smaller room venue and is REALLY REALLY nice. Hardwood floors(used to be gym, duh!), stained glass windows and the decor is beautiful, warm and modern. They have an outdoor patio downstairs with piped in music so you can be outside and still hear the show going on and downstairs they have an elegant lounge with a wall size TV screen that you can sit downstairs and watch the show on if you don't want to be in the crowd upstairs. If the church becomes half as nice as the current venue it will be worlds better than most venues. TR loved the room, this always makes for a great show.

So we arrived for soundcheck after having a hard TIMe locating the venue. Who puts two streets next to each other both with the same name Allen. Guess they do in St Louis. Of course we missed the first Allen and proceeded to drive up and down the next Allen looking for the address and of course having no luck. A quick phonecall to Dan and we were back on track and greeted at the front door as we arrived. We loaded in in a state of awe at the venue. If the show ends up being half as nice as the venue we are in good shape. We did have a small guitar issue at soundcheck and Dan quickly got on the phone and had a guitar tech from a local guitar shop make a house call to look at TR's guitar. You will be happy to hear it turned out to be nothing and the guitar is fine and back in working order. So after soundcheck we were escorted across the street to the "green room" which does not do this room justice. First it's not a room, it's more like the 1st floor of a beautiful house with it's own bar, fireplace, kitchen etc etc etc It is DEFINITELY the nicest dressing room we have ever had. Hell it's nicer than my house and most other peoples houses. LOL

We had a podcast interview that needed to be done before dinner so TR leaped into action and gave one of the most interesting interviews I have heard from him. Not your average "guitar" interview. I will be sure to post details of where you can hear it when it becomes available. Thanx to Ben, the interviewer who did an exceptional job interviewing TR. He had a photographer with him who commented that TR was the most animated interviewee he has ever had to photograph. LOL That's the TR we know and love, that sweet little monkey-boy!

After the podcast we were anxious to dig into our catered dinner. May I say what a beautiful thing it is to have a home cooked meal while on the road and what a magnificent dinner it was. SPECIAL THANX and KUDOS go to Hannah for preparing an amazing dinner which included her special Blueberry Vinegarette salad dressing. I know it doesn't sound to appetizing at first, but if you are fan of Vinegarettes it was absolutely mouthwatering. I think I had more dressing than salad. LOL TR was especially taken by the pasta/chicken dish that was our entree. It was spectacular.

After dinner, some of TR's old buddys from his MO days stopped by to catch up and tell old stories about there Maga daze! Maga was a project that was more of basement jam situation than an actual band with a rotating lineup that TR was a big part of. Everyone told me to there recollection TR came up with the name, but noone, including TR could remember where the name came from. It was fun to watch them talk the good old days and laugh about the silliness that transpired at those jams. Dave said he thinks he has an old reel to reel of one of their jams featuring TR where TR kicks it off with some bizarre banter. Surprise surprise! I hope he can locate it. The evening was filled with old friends & family of TR's. I think next TIMe we play St Louis Scott Reynolds may open for TR. That would be a sweet nite of 2 generations of guitar playing Reynolds. Thanx to Scott for covering merch for me at the end of the show.

Well after catching up with old friends, TR prepared his setlist which is as follows:

01)Invasion of the Joyce People
(Remove the Operator at Once)
02)Closer To Home
03)Goldrush - Ohio?
04)Betrayal
05)Che
06)The Truth
07)Indoctrinate
08)Untested Smiling Meat Intruder
------------------------------------
09)Flourescence
10)Ancestors
11)Stream-Other Cheap Shots
12)Vantage OR Axiom OR War Must End
13)Hands Full
14)Levee
------------------------------------
15)Only In An Archetypal Dream
16)Dreaming OR Dissent
17)Kundalini - Space Report
------------------------------------
18)Revolution
19)Doom
20)Ocean
21)Hold On
--------------------------------------
666 - All You Need Massive Retaliation

Elves Have Left The Building

I remember Axiom and Dreaming being played. Stream with the Led Zep teases thrown in for good measure. Otherwise I think it followed the list pretty closely. The tale of the tape will tell for sure. Jenkins from the board was there in full effect recording both audio with mics and video and shooting stills as well. busy busy busy. I also shot alot of shots tonite and actually captured one I think may be my best TR photo to date. Well at least it is to me. LOL You may remember Jenkins as the guy who captured both TR and Greg's set from our last jaunt thru St Louie at Finale. He passed along DVDs of both of TR's sets and both of Greg Howard's sets from that nite. We should see something from this show very soon. Also it was recorded by the house at the soundboard and I need to contact Dan to see about having him send us a copy of the board recording.

Well that's about it, to end it, I would like to extend a heartfelt THANX to Dan and his wife, Dave, the soundman who did an excellent job, Hannah for the AMAZING dinner and taking care of our hospitality needs so wonderfully and last but certainly not least Jan and the rest of the staff!! THANX guys, your team RAWKS!! Can't wait for our return engagement.

Peace & Keep the Faith

Sounds like St. Louis was awesome last night! I tried to get my sister up there for the show (she lives with my dad in St. Louis), but she wasn't able to make it. :( I told her she missed out! The venue sounds AWESOME!!!

Now that it's been over a week, I guess I can go ahead and contribute my belated (as usual) two cents.

There's really not a whole lot more to say about the venue than what Fluffy already has - he summed it up quite nicely. The thing about it was that you'd never expect it to be there. It was kind of like, here's a bar and here's a gas station and there are some houses and, well, here's a big building - I guess this is it. The lounge had nice cushy couches and seats, and they had a quirky-but-good food menu (a little bit was admittedly too quirky for me to try. ;) )

The opener was an acoustic female singer/songwriter duo. It took me a little while to warm up to them, but once I did, they were great. They did a cover of zeppelin's Going to California that I really liked alot. They were also quite attractive, which is always a plus. On a completely unrelated note, for me, putting a guitar in a woman's hands instantly adds anywhere from 1.5 to 2 to the 1-10 scale of attractiveness. Women with guitars are a good, good thing.

The show was fantastic. Technically, this was only my third time seeing Tim (fourth, if you count the two Finale gigs last year as two instead of one,) and while I'm familiar enough with Tim's work that I can hear a song or a riff and immediately recognize it, I'm generally not familiar enough with the newer stuff to hear a riff and say "OH this is 'Revenge of the Purple Crested Scrotum Hawk!'" So I won't be able to give any kind of song-by-song review, which is probably OK, because chances are no one really wants that kind of detail anyway.

I will give a little more detail on my highlights, though: I generally prefer my Tim in the acoustic format, and while it was great getting to hear some of the electric stuff at the Finale last year, I was excited for a full acoustic set. Flourescense is awesome. Easily one of my favorites, if not my favorite, song that Tim plays. He could play that song every time I see him, and I'd never complain. Stream was great, especially with the zeppelin riffs thrown in. Lots of zeppelin riffs in random places the whole night, if I recall correctly. Doom is also quickly becoming a favorite of mine. And che, which is just god damn awesome.

Who am I kidding - pretty much everything was great. I can't think of a single song where, at the end, I didn't think 'wow, that was great!' I finally got to meet Tim after the show. I would have after the Finale last year, but unfortunately there were lots of drunk meatheads talking to him about stupid shit after last year's show, so we spent the aftershow talking to Fluffy and Greg Howard insead. Tim was cool as hell, we hung around and chatted for a little bit, and Tim took some pictures with us and the nerfball mic mount that I use (the pics were taken on fluffy's camera, so hopefully we will see sometime soon.) Talking with Tim and company after the show is definately one of the coolest things I have done in recent memory. (I'm not sure, but that may have sounded a lot dorkier than it really is, I think.)

I can't discuss the good and leave out the bad, though, so here goes:

I would have paid money - good money - to get some of the people in the crowd to SHUT THE FUCK UP. To be fair, it wasn't the entire crowd that was bad. The crowd was generally OK. But there were 4 guys who were drunk who stood right at the edge of the stage and talked ALL NIGHT. You'll hear it in my recording, should you choose to download it. There was one bigger guy who screamed the whole night - in between songs, during songs, whatever - VIVA SAN LUIS! VIVA SAN LUIS!. Eventually at one point, I'm pretty sure I heard Tim say in response 'Viva rub your balls on it!'

The other three guys drank and talked all night. The one guy was drunk enough he could barely stand - he kept leaning over on the stage and the burly security guy eventually had to come and move him back a few feet. Needless to say, this guy had a second drink in reserve in a glass on the floor for when he finished the one in his hand.

This presents an interesting situation for Tim and artists like him, which I certainly don't envy them for. These guys were obviously enjoying the show. Viva San Luis guy was so rocked by the beginning of Che that he seriously fell to the floor with a look of shock and awe on his face. There's no question that these guys were seriously enjoying the music. They were fans.

So I would imagine that in cities and venues across the country there is a demograph of fans that fits this description. There's no question that this demograph really enjoys the music. But on the other hand, this group can tend to have some obnoxious fools that won't shut the hell up. I would think that for Tim (and Fluffy, who at one point last week seriously looked like he was going to whoop a little ass while he was trying to take pictures) this group invokes some mixed emotions. On one hand, I would think that as an artist you would really enjoy the fact that they were enjoying the show. On the other hand, I think that it would be hard to couple that with the desire to hit a few of them over the head with a brick. Like I said, thankfully these are things that, as an accountant and not a performing musician, I don't have to deal with.

I bought my girlfriend a Canon EOS-30d digital SLR for her birthday (and our anniversary, and christmas, and valentines day, and easter, and so on) and this was her first time using it in a dark concert-hall setting. Needless to say there are dozens of pictures, and they're all available at:

http://www.gotjenkins.com/tr20060921/

Please please take the time to look through them. There are some genuinely awesome pictures in there. At some point I'll go through them in a little more depth and post some of the better ones. Please note that, while these pictures have been scaled down to make them more internet friendly, they are still upwards of a meg each. If anyone wants/needs the full resolution files for anything (clocking in at around 5 megs each) let me know.

Finally, we did audio and video tape. I'm not really planning on doing anything with the video until Fluffy hears about getting the soundboard feed from the venue, because my audio is OK but not great. Music's a little quiet, crowd's a little present. Once Fluffy hears about the audio/video from the venue, (assuming that it's ok) we'll mix it in with what we recorded and do a dvd of it for everyone. Maybe I'll put up a clip or two of the show in the meantime.

I made a little bit of a miscalculation setting up my mics (I couldn't see where the speakers were, so they wound up actually being behind me), so the audio isn't fantastic. If anyone happens to know anything about mixing/mastering, drop me a line.

Fluffy - Sorry we couldn't make it to Lawrence, but the offer was truely awesome!! Looking forward to next time already!
