I know this is going to be missing a lot of artists and songs at first, but I want to create a main list of all of the songs that TR has covered, in any aspect, so that I can link this list off the FAQ's page I'm working on. What we can do, is if TR plays a new cover, or if anyone thinks about a new one we forgot to post, then reply to this thread... I'll add it to the master list, and then you can delete the reply. Fluffy, that Slider song was done in Brooklyn as well. You were pretty out of it then, but it surprised me both nights when I saw it.

Thanx for the heads up Erich, I guess I was pretty out of it that nite. Did he do it solo acoustic in Brooklyn or with the drum machine? It was solo acoustic at Hamilton College.

Jason's right; two different tunes. Go Tell it On the Mountain is what they used to call a "Negro Spiritual." Not sure if that's PC anymore.

(Just checked; the proper term is now "African-American spiritual.")

JLTLC is more sing-songy, however the music was also written long ago, during the Civil War.

I know he played it at my show. It was awesome. And according to Fluffy he was trying to work out a Fear Factory song acoustically, but it never worked.

Hey Jason, no postitive, but if I remember correctly War Pigs was attributed to the opening act in Dayton. I don't recall TR doing that at any of the shows thus far. Hoping to see you in St Louie!

Also, it would be good to get listings for a few of these obscure ones of what recordings they may be on. At least need to distinguish b/w Tim solo covers and TR3 covers, because I keep looking for some of the awesome ones (ex. natural mystic) on archive.org on just Tim solo, to no prevail.

Hey Kev, I have discoved that I was wrong in my addition of Slider to the list. You were right, Slider is a line in Buick MacKane, so you subtract that one. I have listed some new ones for TR in the Seattle reviews thread so you may want to add those to this list.

You can add

Come to Daddy by Aphex Twin to this list. :)

As you edit the list Kevo, maybe you can put a date by when you know for sure the song was played?

Like this:

Aphex Twin
Come To Daddy - 2006-02-24

Some songs are covered a lot so just put something indicating that to the side maybe...

OooooOOooh, what I'd give for moderator priviledges here for stuff like this.

Also, I'm pretty sure TR has covered

Britney Spears
Oops, I Did It Again - unsure of date

But it may have been only in soundcheck. Still, I *think* there is a recording of it, but I also think it's on one of the recordings that's fallen into a gap between someone's carseats or something. Probably will never surface, but maybe.

It could also be that I'm getting this confused with when TR was touring with Peter Prince, and PP was covering BS.... if I'm wrong correct me and I'll just delete this post. :)

BTW, I swear I'm not trying to be a prick by writing this, but Levee isn't really Zep tune. It's a cover they famously redid of an old blues song (McCoy and Minnie, I believe). They certainly put their stamp on it though and it's one of my fav. I can certainly get why mentioning Zep would make sense though.

Hmmm, I went to www.allmusic.com to look it up, and they credit page & Plant as composers too, so maybe they took ideas from an old song, and turned it into their own? For the record, I checked my liner notes on "Early Days/Latter Days" and it matches.

PS: Don't forget I Want You(She's So Heavy) under the Beatles. You may want to note next to it that it was done to the music for Cold Sweat. It was from the Mexicali Blues show.

I'm not finding it on the archive for some reason. Did it just get recently uploaded so it isn't available for DL yet?

Good point, it wasn't on the archive, but on bt.etree. I'll see about getting it to the archive sometime soon.

I'm 99% sure the Segovia song is called "Alcañiz (Festiva)," and it is in fact from Castillos de España. =)

Hey dancheatham, this subject has been covered in great detail. You may want to post your comment on that thread. Here is a link to the Segovia thread:

Since you're including covers he's done with Dave, here are some you're missing:

All Along the Watchtower (Dylan)
Angel from Montgomery (John Prine)
For the Beauty of Wynona (Lanois)

Is Chicago, Is Not Chicago (Soul Coughing)
The Long Black Veil (Johnny Cash)
Tangerine (Led Zeppelin)
The Temple (Andrew Lloyd Weber)
Watermelon Smilin' on the Vine (Uncle Dave Macon)
Wild Horses (Rolling Stones)

And here are the covers Dave Matthews and Friends do (did?) that you don't have already:
American Tune (Paul Simon)
Hey Bulldog (Beatles)
Fool in the Rain (Zeppelin)
Iko Iko (James "Sugar Boy" Crawford)
Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh)
The Ship Song (Nick Cave)
Solsbury Hill (Peter Gabriel)
Spanish Moon (Little Feat
Superstition (Stevie Wonder)
Tell Me Something Good (Chaka Khan)
Thank You (Falettin Me Be Mice Elf Agin) (Sly and the Family Stone)
Up on Cripple Creek (The Band)
Will It Go Round in Circles (Billy Preston)

Ahhhhh, thanx dancheatham. I was wondering about that. I actually just threw those few in because I was there and saw them. hehe It is nice to have the more comprehensive list from you. I was thinking about maybe starting another section at the bottom of the list for the ones with Dave & DMB since those are actually covered by Dave & DMB and TR just plays on them. Alot of folks may not see the difference but in my mind I do. LOL At the TIMe when I had only a couple of the covers from TR & Dave it seemed ridiculous to start a WHOLE new section for them so adding them to TR's list with notation seemed like the best idea. Now it looks like we have enuf for a quite respectable TR with Dave & DMB section. Do you know which ones are with DMB and which ones are with Dave? If you do and you wouldn't mind noting them in your post that would be great. THANX again!

What would be epic is if one day we could have a link with an mp3 of each attached to the names.

Does anyone have Machine Gun or Hurt in MP3?

Goodness!! So many covers with so many songs I'd love to hear Tim play!! I guess I'll have to hope to catch a solo show!!! Or hope that some of the older shows were recorded and uploaded! I'd love to especially hear his version of Go Tell It On The Mountain. One of my friends released a Christmas Album last year with the tune and it was great! I'm sure it would have been a lot better though had Tim played on the album! :) But don't worry, I've sent her a list of things she must hear that Tim has played with Dave or DMB. She got Big Whiskey on my advice! :)

Fingers crossed,
Millissa

In 1993, Reynolds and Dave Matthews started playing a few acoustic duo sets. These featured Matthews music, stripped down to just the acoustic guitar, paired with Reynolds's guitar, and occasionally slide guitar. During these sets, Reynolds would play between one to four of his own pieces that spanned his own catalogue of work. After a few years these shows gained popularity, and in 1996 Matthews and Reynolds embarked on their first full tour together as a duo. In 1999, coinciding with a 40-date tour.
