Thanks, usefulidiot, you have proven to be useful indeed! I was lookin at that album, it has Freedom Run on it, and I like that song, kinda reminds me of Tim a bit with the delayed guitar at the beginning.

They are all great albums and you should have them all but Blues for the Red Sun is a great place to start. Ironically, my fave song on BLUEs for the red sun is GREEN machine. Didn't the board change from Green to Blue? or was just my imagination running away with me? Blues for the Red Sun is 14 tracks of in-yo-face GENIUS!!
 
Here is a review of Blues for the Red Sun:
Hailing from the small Southern Californian town of Palm Desert, one would expect Kyuss's music to be of the off-beat, insulated variety. And although Kyuss has done its share of gigs on the L.A. strip, their vision is of a different nature: raw, heavy on the grunge, and with a somewhat chaotic energy. In fact, one is more likely to find this bond hooked up to a generator and playing in the desert than gigging in some cheesy club. The previous debut, Wretch, had a rootsier tone, but Blues Far The Red Sun ventures into a more eclectic style while retaining its brilliantly thick and heavy overtones. And while vocalist John Garcia shouts "I hate slow songs,'' the tempo of most of Blues digs deep into a groove, slowly piercing the eardrum and eventually picking up a truckload of steam, crashing home to a brutal climax. Extra credit has to be given to producer Chris Gross (Masters Of Reality), who manages to keep the boys in their respective cages, coherency intact. Kyuss thwarts expectations of normalcy, so if you're looking for something raw and unorthodox, then look no further. Top choices: "Thumb," "Green Machine," "Caterpillar March" and "Freedom Run."

Hailing from Palm Desert, CA, Kyuss (pronounced "kai-us") has become a heavy metal Velvet Underground of sorts. Though they are widely acknowledged as pioneers of the booming underground "stoner rock" scene, the band enjoyed little commercial success during their brief existence. Still, their combination of sludgy, down-tuned guitars (often played through a bass amp for maximum earth-shaking intensity), galloping thrash metal rhythms, and organic drum sound has become the blueprint -- often copied but never replicated -- by countless underground metal bands.
Formed in 1990 by vocalist John Garcia, guitarist Josh Homme, bassist Nick Oliveri, and drummer Brant Bjork, Kyuss began jamming at "desert parties," in and around the isolated towns of the southern California desert. The band eventually built a local following, signed with tiny independent label Dali Records, and released their first album, Wretch, in 1991. Underproduced and financed, the album failed to capture the band's live sound and went completely unnoticed, but constant touring earned them a reputation as a ferocious live unit as well as the respect of many fellow musicians. One of those, Masters of Reality singer/guitarist Chris Goss, decided to produce the band's next effort, 1992's stunning Blues for the Red Sun, eventually hailed as a landmark album by critics and fans alike. The Kyuss sound takes the heaviness of Black Sabbath, the feedback fuzziness of Blue Cheer, plus other '70s influences, and infuses them with psychedelic flashes, massive grooves, and a sensibility for '90s metal and thrash.
The band was signed to Elektra Records just as their label was about to go bankrupt, and despite the loss of bassist Oliveri (he was replaced by Scott Reeder), the band continued to build momentum. Also recorded under Goss' guidance, 1994's Sky Valley saw Kyuss taking the novel approach of grouping the songs into three extended suites, and nearly matched the brilliance of its predecessor. But despite their creative promise and growing fan base, personal strife began tearing the band apart, and drummer Brant Bjork departed by tour's end. After recruiting Alfredo Hernandez to replace him on 1995's less-inspired ...And the Circus Leaves Town, a final rift between Homme and Garcia finally brought the band to a halt. Homme, Reeder, and Hernandez reappeared as Queens of the Stone Age in 1998, and Garcia is currently a member of Unida. ~ Ed Rivadavia, All Music Guide

Wretch
Kyuss are from the California desert, and they sound like it mining a dry power-trio (even tho' there are four of them) sound, Wretch is raw, primal and threatening, mining classic early-Misfits menace with an MC5 production and Lemmy-sized distorto-bass. Although they sometimes wander off course, when the band locks into one of its mesmeric grooves-like on "Hwy 74," "Son Of A Bitch," "Black Widow," and the punlder "Katzenjammer" it's a frightening thing to behold.
Kyuss(Welcome to Sky Valley)
It's been a long wait for Sky Valley, held up by the legalities of Chameleon Records' demise; but after listening to the new record, you would hardly guess it's been nearly two years since Blues For The Red Sun. Sky Valley picks up just where Blues... left off, exhibiting just a bit of growth, so that, for example, there are fewer self-indulgent, drawn-out, guitar solos. Like bell bottoms, the retro tone of Kyuss' metal makes the band eligible for popularity with the alternative crowd, as with bands like Monster Magnet. But Kyuss doesn't bank solely on `705 kitsch; the band emerges from the pot haze with sonic ferocity. Kyuss represents the great convergence of punk and metal, the band influenced equally by Black(s) Flag and Sabbath. Through it all, the bludgeon of Brant Bjork's drums stops the band from skidding towards hypnotic, meandering waves. The album perfectly combines nostalgic psychedelia with rough and heavy metal. Though divided into three parts, Sky Valley is best listened to in its entirety as a triptych of songs. These Palm Desert natives know what's best in resort areas, making the rest of Sky Valley a relief from the everyday: "La Gardenia," "100 degrees" and "Odyssey."
As the succession battle for Black Sabbath's throne rages, many of the young hopefuls wrongly reduce the mighty Sabbath sound to an unbearably slow, self-conscious, plodding sludge that just doesn't move. Like a fat bully who sits on his victims until they admit defeat, this strategy can be effective and amusing, but it also gets boring really quickly. Although clearly weaned on many of the same sounds, the Palm Desert natives of Kyuss shrewdly shun this approach, and the band's loose, groove-laden, lysergic blooze provides, along with Entombed, the fiercest, most physical sonic experience you're likely to have these days. Sky Valley basically continues where 1992's Blues For The Red Sun left off: The obvious reference points are still Blue Cheer and Kyuss's fave Black groups-Rag and Sabbath. But Sky Valley is more dynamic, and also displays a noticeable improvement in chops that does nothing to undermine the rawness and inspired sloppiness that make this band such a gas. Burly overdriven riffs and the stellar drumming of Brant Bjork consistently lock into hypnotic, menacing grooves that make the whole album lumber recklessly forward with the unstoppable abandon of a dozen drunk teenagers speeding through the desert in an old Chevy Luv. Not for the weak of heart.
....And the Circus Leaves Town
Kyuss has been delivering amazing metal records from its secluded desert locale for a few years now, and though And The Circus doesn't match the jamming decadence of last year's Sky Valley in terms of excess, it's to-to-toe with every other Kyuss effort in what the band does best: syrupy, bottom-heavy, loose-groove riffs that, when turned up to the respectable volume they demand, readily make even the most stationary objects in any room rattle in a uniquely satisfying way. "Gloria Lewis" and "Tangy Zizzle" are loaded with bassy, leaden grooves that better the Melvins by virtue of their rhythm and soul, but ...And The Circus also holds a number of surprises. The vast expanse of space that's been the inspiration for the band in the past comes across in a new way on spare, deformed little tunes like "One Inch Man" and "El Rodeo," where the parched desertion of their home in Palm Desert, California, distorts reality and rock 'n' roll into mutated imagery. Kyuss is fueled by hallucinations caused by something far more potent than any drug-blistering, devastating heat. ...And The Circus is another sonically gigantic addition to Kyuss' ever-growing catalog of molten heavy metal.
Much has been already said about Kyuss and its sun-parched roots in the high desert region of Palm Springs, California; how the band got a kick out of throwing parties in the remotest reaches of it, fueled only by a generator and a powerful thirst. Now, we all know the sun makes cancerous toast of your skin, but do you ever wonder what it does to a brain? The answer might lie in Kyuss' fourth record, ...And The Circus Leaves Town. Led by Josh Homme on guitar and Jon Garcia on vocals, and supported by new drummer Algredo Hernandez and bassist Scott Reeder, Kyuss explodes like a bottle of warm champagne, but instead of vacuous fizz, we get a confetti blast of colorful riffs and dazzling, heavy rock configurations. Compared to his usual work, guitarist Homme branches out impressively, though his heroes remain lommi ("One Inch Man"), Hendrix ("Jumbo Blimp Jumbo") and Page ("The Old Boozerooney"). His ultra-distorted chording, underscored by Reeder's equally distorted bass, makes for a plate-shifting fuzzy-core sound, the likes of which could easily move a big mountain. But Circus is not all sturm und drang. An unusual Spanish shuffle with a hard-rock boogie tempo marks "El Rodeo," and "Size Queen" starts out with a cheeky new wave hook before it bursts into a dizzy flurry of edgy guitar. The sun has baked this band to a crisp, but somehow it manages to come up with a literate and startlingly creative sound. There's great stuff here. Let's hope they don't discover sun block.

Well, allow me to make our small world EVEN SMALLER! You mentioned they are from Palm Desert. CA and that made my jaw drop! I spend 7 years (including high school) two towns over in miserable Indio. Thats crazy to think anything can come out of that lousy desert. Maybe the bordom and heat inspired them.

URGGGHH, I hate it when that happens. Did Teri tell you we lived in Blythe CA for a very SHORT TIMe? We drove thru there on the last tour for the first TIMe since I left as a youth. Not much had changed and I still think I wouldn't want to live there.

I don't remember much about Blythe. Except we played hopscotch and marbles alot. I think some random guy came and lived with us for a while too. We met him in the emergency room and he needed a place to stay while his leg mended. (Fluffy, please tell me I'm not dreaming this...)

You are correct. Blythe is where we played marble, that crazy neighbor shot his dog in the dick with a BB gun, and mom sewed her finger threw the sewing machine and had to go to the emergency room where she met that guy who had walked off a cliff while camping. He pitched his tent in our backyard for a while before he could move on.

PS: We also shopped out of a catalog(Pennys or Sears) because there was not store like that there. The only one was what they called a Catalog store. It was a store where you went and it said Sears, but when you went inside it was just a desk with catalogs and you had to order everything you wanted out of catalogs. Remember that?

Wow, nope... never knew you guys briefly lived in Blythe, although I imagine that has to be just as bad as Indio. I was on the basketball team in high school and we had to make a bus trip out there for a game once and it looked even more deserted and less populated than the coachella valley (Indio, palm desert, palm springs)
