Yep, it's the new (and official) DMB album title. From what I've heard and seen is that it is causing a stir with people on DMB message boards.
I know now that Groogrux (or just Grux) was a nickname for LeRoi. And Dave posted this on his twitter: . . . still here dancing with the Groo Grux King. We'll be drinking big whiskey while we dance and sing. When I get to the end, I'm gonna end . . .
I am guessing that is a lyric in a song (maybe the song title is Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King). Also, maybe LeRoi liked whiskey.
Well, many seem to not like it. I was caught off guard by it, but I like it. It's really different, and kind of kewl. |

That is quite the album title. Obviously the first of theirs I can't pronounce. However, being a fan of Jameson's Whiskey I like that part. I didn't know about the Leroi nickname, so if that is the case, I don't see anything wrong with it. Also I'm guessing a New Orleans connection maybe? Based on his Tweets (I can't beleive I just used that word) Dave seems to have really fallen in love with the city while recording there. |

LOL I saw this title and wondered what it was about! I too am a whiskey fan. I will spare you the story of how I came to love it.
As for the DMB album, sweet that they named it for Roi, but still doesn't interest me at all.
Now Leonard Cohen playing his first gig in 15 years in Philly this May....now that excites me!
For all you Daveheads, enjoy their CD. |

I also hope the talk of an EP is true, containing: Cornbread, #27 (I Hope You'll Be By Me Then), Idea Of You, Sister, and the revived Sugar Will.
The person who talked about it has evidence he is not shitting us. He has pictures of himself in the studio with Dave's DM3MD Martin, and pictures of him with Dave. He also stated the album was being pushed back to June, which it has. Also one of the song titles he saw, Skworm, was something then Dave Twittered. |

I'll listen to it online before I decide on buying it. The only real reason I'm considering purchasing the album is because of TR. I hope the eleven year wait is worth it. |

I've never purchased a DMB album. I've never heard the majority of their songs (other than standard radio songs and whatever Tim and Dave have performed together).
But on this one, I might make an exception.

gnome44, would you (or anyone else) let me know the title and your opinion of the song with TR and the sitar when the album comes out. That is all I am interested in. I hope to be able to hear just that song, more for curiosity than anything else.
BTW the fact that I don't like DMB isn't meant as an insult to anyone, hope it doesn't come off that way. Thought I would clarify since the written word doesn't always come off as meant. It just isn't my kind of music, that's all. |

Absolutely, Pam! I'm hoping that he plays sitar on every track...
Maybe it'll turn out to be a Tim-Reynolds-plays-sitar-CD-with-DMB-backing. That would throw quite a few people for a loop!
Imagine these crazy, trippy tunes of Tim ripping it up on the sitar...with a little violin, horns, drums, and Dave singing quietly in the background. I imagine that wouldn't sell very well! LOL |

Pam, anyone personally offended by you not caring for DMB is going to have a rough time making it through their life. It's a simple issue of personal taste and preference, two things that are prerequisites for a person to enjoy music. Also, anyone offended must be relatively new around here, as they would have no idea that you are easily the nicest and friendliest person on the board. |

Kevin that is awesome! I got another email that tickets for LC are going to go on sale on Monday at 10. I am going to see what I can get, but won't be able to even try until after work. I don't have acess to a computer (for personal use) at work. Crossing my fingers I can get some tickets.
Enjoy seeing Sir Paul! |

You really should give Before These Crowded Streets a listen to then. It's fantastic. Like most great groups, the radio singles do not do DMB justice. Also on Before These Crowded Streets, Tim has an amazing guitar solo on Crush that is cut off of the single version. Then there is the Dreaming Tree, a song that can bring tears to my eyes. On an opposite note, there is Pig that always puts a smile on my face.
Oh, and PJK, I am not offended that you don't like DMB, I just think you are really missing out. To each their own. |

Aw thanks but you don't have to feel that way, because I am not missing out at all!
My taste in music has gone a different direction and I LOVE the direction it's taking me in!
My dream is to open my own music venue. I have a place in mind, but although the building is vacant, it isn't on the market yet. I am in the process of trying to find out who ownes it to see what their intentions are.
Music is like a mystical journey. It takes you places you've never been before. There is so much music out there and it fills my soul. Music is my religion!

So has anyone else watched the video of the fans stopping by the studio to listen to the new album? Let's round up fifteen really drunk people and see how they like it? The music was actually pretty intriguing, particularly the instrumental opening. But when the fans start "rocking" out, it turned into one of the most pathetic things I have seen. |

Those douchebags really made me embarrassed to be a DMB fan. If I were lucky enough to be let into the studio to not only meet them but listen to their new shit, I would NOT be jumping up and down like a fucking retard. That stuff sounded pretty good though. Glad to hear what I'm assuming is Tim on electric pretty loud in the mix. I'm sure Ants will blow up with "Is there too much Tim on the new album" threads but who gives a shit. |

Update!
Billboard has an interview with Dave and an exclusive video with the band: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/feature/q-a-dave-matthews-1003961185.story
You can hear part of the single (coming any day now) Funny the Way It Is. You can also hear part of Sister which is another nod that there might be an EP/Bonus Disc that will have already heard tunes.
When the guys are talking about LeRoi, they really start to clam up. Dave also sounds EXTREMELY confident about this album. A whole lot more than he sounded for Everyday and Stand Up. |

I miss Roi.. very much.. he was a great friend of DMB's webmaster site here in Brazil . I got really mad when I saw coments about how great DMB will become with his death and the adding of Jeff Coffin. Crazy shit... can't believe. But he's gone, and I think this album will be a mark. Don't know if it will be great ( I hope so)... but it will mean a lot to me and others. The video was great... when Boyd talks about Roi... oh man! |

I miss Roi too Andre. I can't wait for you all to be able to hear the new SOKO CD. I am listening to tracks from it now and Roi's sax is so beautiful. There is a song called And Yet Your Smile that takes my breath away, makes me smile and cry all at the same time. Vintage Roi, from 1988. Perfect.
**If anyone was wondering, yes, I deleted a post of mine. Something I said made me feel I needed an attitude adjustment. Once I deleted I thought I should have just edited, but thought of that too late. Nothing anyone else said, all my own doing. Just didn't want anyone to think I am playing mind games. |

I love playing Mind Games. It's a great song. The whole album, also called Mind Games, is great. Well, I am not HUGE about One Day At A Time. I prefer the Anthology version of One Day At A Time.
"We're playing those mind games together, Pushing the barriers, planting seeds, Playing the mind guerilla, Chanting the mantra, peace on earth, We all been playing those mind games forever, Some kinda druid dudes lifting the veil, Doing the mind guerilla, Some call it magic, the search for the grail . . ."

I'm looking forward to what this album will sound like. I'm also glad that it's all new music and they didn't put any of the live stuff like Shotgun on there. I don't know why the DMB fans want studio versions of all these songs anyway. I mean, go back and listen to Don't Drink The Water from Before These Crowded Streets. It is completely devoid of energy and played at a slower tempo. Give me the Central Park version any day. Better yet, give me any 2008 tour version with Tim! |

Just listened Funny The Way It Is... Tim rocks... I don't remember a DMB studio song with so many levels since Crash songs. It is not the same type of songs of Crash and Before, wich for me it is awsome. I hate this dying hard fans wanting the band to back in time. Hey bro.. those are good times... but its gone, deal with it. Great song... I love it. |

I listened to it, and LOVED it. I also loved what Tim added. The layers do remind me of Crash. The song is better than any that was on Stand Up (with a slight exception of what Hello Again was in 2004).
I am very excited for the album. Also if you order from dmband.com, you can get a free copy of the next Live Trax, which is from Alpine Valley last year . . . the show I went to! it has an AMAZING Halloween! |

Ok, on youtube they have footage of dmb doing 2 of the new songs as well asthe single live. One is Spaceman, which is good. However, the other, Why I Am, is AMAZING! Dave said that it was LeRoi's favorite that they were working on. Tim brings so much to this song! His electric work (on what seems to be a Gold Top Les Paul) is just magic.

Please don't take this as a snide remark, because it's not...but just thought you'd be interested to know it's apparently a Strat-lookalike that their producer (Rob Cavallo) had custom built for Dave. |

I really like the electric dostortion that Dave is doing on Why I Am. It really drives the song, and Tim's electric then just add the light touch that just takes it to another level. Yes, I know the term "another level" might seem cliche', but it does take it. |

Anyways, kewl. Do you know who built it or anything else about it?
Ha, no clue actually. I'm sure it's somewhere on Ants, though. If I come across it, I'll definitely let you know I think Dave or Stefan put up a close up pic of it on Twittertwatter, also. |

Not the best pic but this came up as "Dave's new gift from Rob Cavallo" when I Google searched "Dave Matthews Strat" |

I can't get any of the 3 new tuns out of my head now. It took a bit, but now I really like Spaceman as well as Funny the Way It Is and Why I Am.
I really think this is going to be one fantastic album.
Also, praise to the Groogrux King. |

does anyone know what the 4 "extra tracks" are that are offered with the "super deluxe box set? The lithographs and picture book would be cool but I just don't know if 60 is worth it. I think ill go with the cd/dvd and vinyl. |

As I posted earlier, there were already 5 tracks on a supposed ep/bonus disk. So, based on info, these are the other tracks that might make it:
Sugar Will #27 Cornbread Sister Idea of You
Sister is most likely on it since it is heard in the video, and it's still being played live (no longer solo by Dave, btw). Another I suspect is almost a shoe in is Cornbread. I absolutely want to hear Sugar Will. I would also love to hear a non-Baston produced Hello Again and Joyride (since they just sounded so dead on Stand Up and the Stand Up bonus disc).
I am also getting the delux version with the t-shirt. |

Wait wait, Sister is not in the video. That riff that sounds like Sister is not even in the same key. Plus, Dave is still playing it the same old way live. Have you heard it this year? It's still him and Tim alone, with Rashawn and Carter doing backing vocals on one part, just like last year. |

So Ants may have been way off with saying Shotgun was one of the extra tracks. This is the list they have posted now which I believe came from Amazon:
* #27 * Beach Ball * Little Red Bird * Write A Song
So to sum it up, Ants has no fucking idea what is going on. |

Well, I do have to give credit to Ant's reasoning about that the band changes it's mind sometimes at the last minute. This includes tour stops as well as concert setlists.
Also, this happened with Stand Up. The first release of Stand Up was in Australia. On that, Hello Again was not on it. In place of Hello Again was Trouble With You. Then when it was being released elsewhere, they switched it at the last minute, putting Trouble With You on the bonus disc.
However, as much as I love #27, I am very sad to see that Sugar Will, Sister, and Cornbread are not on it. Unless they changed the song titles, but that is unlikely. Obviously Cornbread and Sister aren't there, since they are playing them live and they are still called Sister and Cornbread. So Idea of You could, Falling Off the Roof, I Won't Give It Away, or Break For It/Run While We Can may be those tracks with different titles and lyrics. Who knows, maybe Can't Stop or Break Free are there too with different names and lyrics.
Anyways, if this is the true tracklist, I am disappointed. However this is Amazon and not DMBand.com. Plus, there are 14 lithographs, but only 13 tracks on the album (rumor of a hidden track, which then could be Shotgun or such). But, then again this is Amazon talking aobut lithographs and not DMBand.com, so there could just be 13, or maybe 17 including the bonus tracks, or 18 with a hidden track. Also, Amazon says there are 4 bonus tracks, yet DMBand.com doesn't give a number. Maybe if you order it from DMBand.com you get more tracks, or maybe from the Warehouse. So, who knows. Maybe they will release the tracklists on the Warehouse 5/8 CDs.
So, until DMBand.com says something, I will not consider this as concrete evidence. |

After listening to "Funny the Way It Is" a number of times, both live and the single cut, I hate to say that I'm not very impressed. The lyrics are pretty trite. The music is alright but it's nothing spectacular. I'll have to listen to some of the other songs, but based off of "Funny the Way It Is" I'm not getting particularly hopeful about the new album. |

Realize as well that it was the first single, and it is hard to get a really good original song on the radio today. What I Am and Spaceman are much better than Funny the Way It Is. However, I still enjoy Funny the Way It Is. |

Well, since the extra tracks weren't what many were expecting (including me), I have decided to make a compilation of my own. I am going to pull together live released tracks and bootlegged recordings of recent songs that deserve studio treatment. I am also going to edit them seamlessly together.
My Tracklist:
1 - The Idea of You 2 - Break free 3 - I Won't Give It Away 4 - Shotgun 5 - Sugar Will 6 - Kill the King 7 - Falling Off the Roof => 8 - Sister 9 - Crazy/Easy 10- Cornbread 11- Blue Water Baboon Farm (earliest recording available). (hidden outro track) I Just Think That's Pretty |

I would hesitate to call it good. The version I have is from one of the last DMB concerts I went to. Sacramento 9.6.2006. It's about eleven minutes long. The quality is kind of crappy though. I forget any info about source or taper. I just downloaded it because I went to the concert. But from what I remember hearing that year the later tour versions of Shotgun were much better than the first half of the summer. When they started adding the instrumental buildups I think it got a lot better. |

I actually stumbled upon one from the last tour, and it's very good quality. You can actually understand, or at least hear, Dave's singing loud and clear.
The only one I have a problem with is I Won't Give It Away. The version I have is very bad, loud, and such. If I can't find a good one, I will be substituting it for Can't Stop. I got a great early blue water with Peter Griesar, and Boyd really does an amazing solo! One of Boyd's best ever, I think.
I also have a title for it. The studio album is called Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King, and a line from Kill the King is, "all the king's horses, and all the king's men," taken from the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme. So, I am going to use: All the Groogrux King's Men. |

Remember right before "Everyday" came out and Carter was like "this album is the best thing in the world!!!!" and then after it released the tune became "it was a Dave Matthews and Glen Ballard album." I wonder how his high praise of this album will change after it is released. |

I can't wait for this album to be released and for people to get on with their lives! Seriously, I am soooo sick of hearing about it! I heard "Funny How Things Are" or whatever the name of that song is, again this morning on the radio. I tried to be objective about it but I still find the lyrics and the music to be mediocre at best!
Glad you all like it, glad TR is having fun playing with his friends and making some big bucks, but I will really be glad when this album is released and time passes and the REALLY great music of TR and TR3 is the topic of conversation here once again!

FYI, Nick, you're not going to find a better quality version of I Won't Give It Away, as it was only played once, and in England, so the one source of it is all that was recorded.
I love this new album, BTW. So nice to hear a GOOD album from DMB for the first time in eleven years. Shake Me Like a Monkey is so badass. Tim is all OVER this album, which is fantastic. |

Well, I really like the single (which is Funny the Way It Is). It definitely is the best single they have put out since the Space Between (always been fond of that song). About hearing it over and over again on the radio, I guess I am lucky not to have that problem. As I have said many times, the radio station here in Madison (105.5) makes it a point to never overplay a song. I also think the lyrics are obvious but they work. Yes, it is no Dreaming Tree or Warehouse, but it is light years better than some like Dream Girl.
As far as DMB not being the topic of conversation here. I don't think that will ever happen. Being that they are so closely tied with TR as well as there are people like me on these boards that love DMB. I know you are not fond of them, but I am big time. I also have no other place to talk about DMB, so this is my last refuge to talk about them.
As far as new topics on TR, I guess we just don't have too much news other than the TR3 touring with DMB, so there are going to be few posts on his subject.
You have the right to not like DMB, the new single, or the album (if you have heard the illegal copies or the streaming of the album on pandora). But keep in mind that I do and this is the only place I can talk about it. |

Well, despite any negative feelings you might have received from my post (which I hope didn't say any, because it was not meant to), I have always liked and respected you here on the boards. I would prefer that you would stick around, but if you must leave for a while I will miss ya. |

LOL Nick, you didn't say ANYTHING negative! I come & go here all the time, like most everyone here. I actually came back today to check out the availability of a CD for a friend and hit message board instead of music. So, I looked to see what comments were made on all the threads since I was last here and found this. I'm just tired of all the DMB stuff and look forward to reading TR3 reviews again. BTW, I do respect all the members of DMB as musicians, I just don't care for their music anymore. No big deal.

Just got my deluxe edition in the mail today (along with Volume 1 of Neil Young's archives!) and I must say, it's always easy to fork over some cash when the artist puts a lot of thought and effort into their product. |

Hey Nick, thought you would like to know I caught part of the live webcast from last nights show in NYC and it made me smile. Seeing Tim so happy and playing like the guitar god he is, was really nice. I also got a kick out of all the young people in the crowd, happy and dancing to the music. I am still not a fan of their music, just can't get into it, but even so, it did make me smile to see everyone so happy. The band looked like they were having a blast, happier than I remember seeing them in a long time. I don't know their trumpet player, but wow, he is like the Incredible Hulk on stage, talk about stage presence! Jeff was great on sax, I miss Roi, but life goes on.
It was great to see happy people for a change, since there is so much sadness and tension at work as people lose their jobs. Didn't watch the whole show, but what I saw was nice and it refreshed me. |
