| sooo... this Christmas i am HOPEFULLY finally upgrading from my 700 dollar washbrun acoustic guitar to a Martin D-35!! yah. There is no pickup in it right now... whats the best option for amplification? and i want to complete my gear set up.... right now i pretty much have a volume pedal and a Line 6 DL4 (which i like)..... so what other pieces of gear do i need to complete the acoustic set up? maybe a shorter delay. Im kind of going for the sound Tim had on his 2001 acoustic tour? i think it was after he released nomadic wavelength.... |

I have an L.R. Baggs Ribbon Transducer II pickup. It's an undersaddle pickup...much better than Fishman's, I think. But I'm sure you'd get 50 different opinions on good pickups...all the different styles have their pros and cons. (~$100)
You can't really have a good acoustic sound without getting some kind of EQ/Pre-Amp to help mellow out the acoustic pickup. You could use the L.R. Baggs Para Acoustic D.I. (which would probably be a good match for the pickup) or something like the Tech21 SansAmp Para Driver DI (which I also have). It helps make the amplified acoustic guitar sound much more like an acoustic guitar. (~$150)
I think that for Tim's 2001 tour he used the D-35 (and D12-28) with the Fishman Acoustic Matrix I undersaddle pickup. And I'm pretty sure he ran through a volume pedal, Boss DD-5 (and/or DD-6), and a Tech21 SansAmp Acoustic Driver (which has since been replaced by the one mentioned previously).
There was a picture floating around somewhere of this setup (with the addition of the Mooger Fooger) that Tim has been using until rather recently when he upgraded to the Fishman Aura Acoustic Imaging Pedal (discussed on other posts at great lengths).

I have a K and K pure western bridge plate pickup.
I have to say that it is the best pickup I've heard.
There really is no need for EQ, and I would suggest
finding a dealer so you can hear it for yourself, it really
is great stuff. Thing about it, is that you can easily
remove it, as it's not intrusive. It could be a thought
As far as anything else, maybe a G7 capo, I'm not
sure if you use capos but if you do these are quality.
I really can't think of anything else, unless you needed/wanted
something different.
I myself just ordered a HD-35 and I cannot wait, I'll definately
post pics, and I hope you do too.

I'd either take Fishman's Acoustic Matrix or the LR Baggs that was already suggested. Both are great.
Then, if you want the creme de la creme, ya gotta save up for an aura, and they have smaller versions now. They have one for I think 100 bucks that is just made for only Dreadnaughts. http://www.fishman.com/products/details.asp?id=92
And if you want a shorter Delay, either Line6 Echo Park Delay, Boss DD-6, or if you can find a used one, the Boss DD-5.
As for reverb, I like the Holy Grail for it's spring and hall classic reverb. But, if you want more spacey reverb, go with the Digitech DigiVerb. |

| hey thanks alot for the link. yeah i think im going to try and get a DD-5 off of ebay or sumthing..... and ive heard both good and bad things about the Aura... so im not sure on that |

| i just got a dd-5 in the mail today. I haven't had change to sit down with it, but I'll let you know. It came with a tap tempo pedal and was only $152 i think. I used buy it now, so you might get better prices. |
