So the deal is, starting 10/10/2007 you can order the mp3s from their website, paying whatever you feel it's worth...nothing if you'd like. They will be releasing it on CD later in the year.
I for one would much rather give radiohead the entire $15 bucks instead of have the RIAA and record companies take $14.90 of it.
Interesting experiment, and I hope other bands take note!

I'm trying it. I guess I'll be getting an email either tonight or tomorrow morning with a download link. It'll be interesting to see how this works out.
I thought it was funny as hell when you enter in your own total on the website there is a little question mark next to it, I clicked on it and it took me to page that simple said, "No, really".
I also read a story that Mr. Dave Matthews' ATO records is in the front running to be the label tht puts out this cd in a traditional format next year. |

I really like the idea of this experiment. I hope it works out for them.
In other non-record-label news, Trent Reznor just announce that, for the first time ever, NIN is now a free agent, completely free of any association whatsoever with any record labels or contracts.
Stick it to The Man, Trent. Stick it to him hard.
(Of course, it's nice that these two artists can actually afford to do this; but at least they're setting an example, and I like that). |

| I'm listening to the new Radiohead right now. I like what I'm hearing. I think the 1st track is the best so far. It seems to be less electronica than their past few albums. |

I have heard nothing but great things. I can't wait to hear it. I also read that about NIN....pretty awesome.
I think music is headed in the right direction. I remember being pretty depressed in the late 90s with all that glam pop crap everywhere. Then I unplugged myself. What IS popular these days? I mean I honestly have no idea. I heard someone talk about "Chingy" the other day...holy crap that shit is garbage.
Anyway, it's awesome for those 2 bands to try something like this...good for them. |

I too thought this was an interesting concept. My son downloaded it and paid about $10 for it. I thought he should have paid more.
We had a discussion about it. He argued that the musicians in Radiohead are rich and don't need the money. I said that had nothing to do with it. IMO, one should pay what one really thinks the music is worth and give a fair price for it. The affluence, or lack thereof, of the musicians should not even be a factor. When someone provides a service, in this case music, people should pay for what the service is worth to them.
Now of course there are kids (and some adults) out there who have no money so given a choice like this, I would say $5 would be fine. The vast majority of people can well afford it. (my son could have afforded more) Oh they will claim they can't afford more, but look the other way and they are buying beer, magazines, movie tickets, etc.
I really hope people pay what they feel the music is worth. I think my son said he heard the boxed set will be about $85 or something like that. Not sure if that is right or not.
I have only heard a few of the songs and honestly couldn't make out the lyrics very well, but I was focused on the music and I love it. It seems to be classic Radiohead, quite edgy. |

I think ten is probably a pretty good price overall, considering there are fewer people with their hand involved with a direct artist release. But let's be honest, with the amount of listening I have devoted to certain albums, putting a price on them is pointless, they become pointless. I've shelled out about $55 over the years having to buy Live at Luther three times. I'll probably be buying another copy of Before These Crowded Streets. I've bought two copies of Gossip of the Neurons, and I will probably buy another copy of Stream depending on how well the tracks rip to my computer from the copy I have now.
With some bands I like to listen to, and this now includes Dave Matthews Band, I would download an album a pay far less for it if I had the option for a couple of reasons. The first, I don't think the tracks are the great or the product that spectacularly. And the second, I'll be shelling out an arm and a leg to see them live. |

Arthen that is great. I am the same way. I have bought Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot 3 times...CHRis Whitley ROCket House twice, and TR stream twice.
IF it's good, I'll buy it over and over again...simply because I enjoy it.
My shift button is sticking because some ass clown spilled juice on my keyboard at work...my apologies. |

It suggests that In Rainbows was meant to compliment OK Computer, alternating the tracks. I tried it, and it actually makes In Rainbows even more enjoyable. Give it a shot! |

Hey Ben. Glad you asked.
I haven't listened to it yet actually, I have heard most of the songs from the live tour they did last year, though I am saving the studio album probably until the CD drops in January or whatever. Did the same with Hail to the Theif. It's like a treasure chest that I am kind of biding my time to open, and believe me, my friends are all giving me shit because they cant have it on around me; but screw them because I got em all listening in the first place. AHAHA
I can tell you now that I absolutely fucking love Arpeggi, though I am upset to hear that the album version sounds more like the live version played from last tour rather than the Ether Festival debut version of the song, which I thought was marvelous. House of Cards, 15 Step, Open Pick, Bodysnatchers, Bangers and Mash, 4 Minute Warning, Spooks, and Videotape are all also solid songs as far as I can tell from what live stuff I've heard; though I am not sure which of those made it to the album yet.
This is my favorite band of all time. My fan-dom is unyielding. They've done no wrong in the past, nor do I expect them to now.
In Rainbows is a lame name though. |

that cartoon is metalocalypse, i'll have you know. it's the brutalest, metalest, blackest cartoon of all time.
i didn't figure any arrangements. i happen to have some classical guitar arrangements, but i never bothered to learn them on account of i don't like radiohead. |
