I mentioned in the guitarists thread how great his new cd was, well seeing him live was even better.

There was a slight fiasco at the box office, because they said they only had one ticket for me, despite that I had two waiting at will call (and dumb me, I forgot the bring the confirmation email), but after a while they took my word for it, and gave me another ticket.

As a result of waiting so long through, we were stuck with two empty bar stools to the waaaay side of the stage. I was a bit bummed that I couldn't watch him play, but hearing it made up for that.

His new album is a electric album, his 1st in quite a while, so he played mostly electric, and it was LOUD!!! Maybe just a tiny bit too loud, because it drowned out his band a bit. He played two sets, the 2nd started out with a series of solo acoustic interpretations of Astor Piazolla songs. My girlfriend was so blown away by one of the songs that she immediatly ran to the merch booth when it was over, and admitted to me that so song over compelled her to run to buy a cd on the spot like that one just had.

The sold out crowd was quiet, but rowdy in between songs, Al was even egging us on, encouraging the applause. He even thanked the crowd at one point saying, "I'm really glad you guys like this music, it is usually only popular in South America these days".

Finally for the record, aside from his guitar sounding beautiful, it is also a beautiful guitar to look at!

Yah, Al smokes the 6er something fierce. Just got the old trio release Passion, Grace, and Fire yesterday. What a display of acoustic pyrotechnics.

I've always liked Al. I'm going to have to make a point to pick up his new CD. I am very jealous that you got to see/hear him live. Maybe one day...

Well, almost 1 year later and I was lucky enough to have just returned from seeing Al again. This time he played an acoustic "World Simphonia" set. I'm really speechless. I've just never seen anything like him. He is a master. He had a new DVD, which despite being broke, I had to get. I can't say much about the set other than I felt like I was watching Bach, or Miles Davis, or God. It just wasn't on par with anything else out there.

on a TR related note, they had Flyers for Tim Reynolds and Marcus Eaton at every table for their show next month, that was cool to see.

No chance you'll come up to Santa Barbara for TR's concert? I don't think I'll make it down to LA, but I'd like to. The Mint was a pretty groovy venue all things considered.

I'm going to try to go to Santa Barbara. My neice just started college up there, and this would be a good excuse to go visit her, and take her out for a real dinner one night.

Sweet! I'm trying to drag my roommate down tonight, he's getting more into TR, he especially likes TR's version of "Big Sky Country." We'll have to grab a beer and reminisce about Batman and the Mint.
