I've had the pleasure of seeing TR with DM three times in Europe lately. And I must say - my jaw dropped when I heard his solo at my first concert in Glasgow. Wow! Dave said that having Tim with him on stage made him feel invincible. 
So, I figured I should look into some of TR's own music. So far, I've only heard him with DM.
So, what album would you recommend for this newbie?! Thanks! |

Second, I know there are threads out there related to this but for the life of me I couldn't find them.
Here is something from the information thread:
Q: I’ve only heard Tim play with DMB. What should my first TR solo cd be?
A: This is a tough one because ultimately it comes down to preference. However, most people consider “Stream” to be the most accessible starting point for Tim’s solo catalogue because it is a straight-up acoustic disc with no effects or overdubs. Just TR. From there, “Gossip of the Neurons” is a live acoustic album, and “See Into Your Soul” and “Nomadic Wavelength” are mostly acoustic with a bit of programming. If you are looking to get into the electric side of things, both “Sanctuary” and “Parallel Universe” are double-disc sets that offer both acoustic as well as electric songs. Similarly, Puke Matrix is a live electric cd with a band, and Astral Projection is a studio project with that same band. Chaos View features Tim live, solo, electric.
Q: Where can I purchase Tim Reynolds’ cds?
A: Tim Reynolds MERCHANDISE
Tim Reynolds’ entire catalogue is available online through both Music Today, and Amazon. Since TR is the epitome of the independent artist, it may be difficult to find his catalogue in retail stores, although there have been numerous sightings in such retail outlets as Virgin, Tower, and Best Buy. TR’s catalogue is distributed via Redeye Distribution, and can be special ordered at almost any retailer. You can also purchase TR CDs at almost every live performance.

Kevin or Erich would be good ones to ask, but my recommendations would be Parallel Universe, Nomatic Wavelength, and if you really like electric, Chaos View. TR is probably one of the greatest guitarists alive. You can purchase these on this site, just go to the home page and click on Music, than Discography.
I have a feeling you will be able to catch a TR show in Europe in the not too distant future. I know his tour manager has been dying for him to tour Europe. BTW, his tour manager is Fluffy, so if you are lucky enough to get a response from him (he is super busy right now), follow his advice. He knows TR better than anyone! |

Welcome, and as many here will agree, I am a TR authority. Here are my recommendations:
Buy Stream and Choas View as an intro to TR acoustic and electric, you will then subsequently buy the rest of the albums due to your new found love of the man and his music.
Also, for freebies, go online to archive.org, type in Tim Reynolds and I recommend these concerts to download: 7/15/97, 9/11/98, 5/20/00, 6/17/00, 10/26/00, 7/17/03, 11/10/03, 2/16/06, 3/4/06.
That'll get you started. |

I've always recommended See Into Your Soul, because there is a good variety on there.
There is enough good solo acoustic on there-
-Is There Anybody Here?
-Hopeful Heresy
-To Touch Yearning (my personal favorite, and one I can actualy play!)
-Jemez Rolling Waves
-Reginos and the Resurrection
-Open Up, Let It In
-the Wayfarer
Some nice guitar with loops, nice slide, and minor effects
-See Into Your Soul
-Frantic
Some with guitars, keyboards, and some with a bit of drum machine
-Instead of Thinking, the Seal Barked
-Direct to Disc
-Everyone Knows Better
-Yak . . . (just plain wierd, lol)
-Singular Obession
It's my 4th favorite album of all time (right after Wish You Where Here).
. . . also Hopeful Rolling Waves likes the album, as you can obviously tell. |
