Just curious....has anyone been getting "spam" e-mail from "members" of the TR message board? I've gotten a couple and one even had a virus in it. Of course, I was trusting and opened them because they were from the board. Anyone else getting these or am I special??   |

I haven't gotten any of those, but it sucks that the BOARD has been used by spammers that way.  Yahoo! Mail automatically deletes attachments that have viruses though, so that might be why I haven't gotten any... |

Hi Heather, yup....getting about a billion of them myself and i'm
F*%^$ing flamed. I don't even come here anymore. just came today to see if anyone else is having this problem because in the subject line it said something about this website. 'Virus city' in all the emails I've been getting.I reported all mine to the states attorney general. recommend you do it too for whichever state your in. Mine was quite interested due to the banking scam it involved. also,I changed my email on this site to a bogus one. a little late this time, but hey...........

easy ways to not get viruses:
don't open shit from people you don't know. example: if i get something in my mailbox that says something about this board, and it has an attachment, i don't open it unless someone here has specifically told me, "dan, i'm going to give you an email." if i don't recognize the name or address, and it gets through the robust screen of filters i have erected, it gets deleted.
stay off the porn sites. seriously. |

Yes, I got them too. I hated to do it but I ended up putting "No" in my profile for contacts. Since then, no more emails. I was pretty pissed off too as the name I got said something about "luv" in the name and I thought "I don't know this screen name," but dummy that I am I opened it because it said from this message board! I didn't get any virus though, actually, I might have, but my computer software took it off.
I really sympathize with the rest of you, especially you, Evergreen. I would be even more pissed if I got them and didn't frequent this board any more. |

Yeah, sounds to me like Evergreen's got a shitball email service, no offense, but this day in age, any ISP or internet mail service should be filtering out anything spam-ish, especially with viral content.

HRW, the emails went to one of my yahoo accts. Which has pretty good filters.....at least it has in the past. nothing got to my gmail acct. my computer has more protection than fort knox (required with all my porn surfing of course) and the virus' were zapped but it still bugged me since the idiots fished me out of all the members here and i wasn't current here. |

hey dan, for what it's worth, I didn't think you deserved the lashing you got.
It would really be nice if people asked themselves what their intention is when writing certain things on this board. If the intention is to be mean and hateful or overly sarcastic in order to embarrass or humiliate someone, it would really be better if it's not written. Writing a bunch of negative statements and adding an LOL after it, isn't changing the fact that what was said was said with the clear purpose of being nasty. I think this board has really been quite good the past 3-4 months with little to no negative comments. I think we were doing a pretty damned good job of attacking topics, not people.

Normally I am just a outsider looking in...an observer if you will. But, I thought I would start this thread because I had been "spammed" by someone on this board and wanted to know if others were receiving the same e-mails, and warn of them if they had not.
For what it's worth, and I'm not trying to single anyone out or embarrass anyone, this board is probably the worst board I've been to. Only because it seems that everyone is against everyone else. I'm a member of several others and it seems that all the board members are friends with one another....I even have some myspace friends from other boards. That's just one reason why I do not visit this board anymore. I do not know the other person's reason, but that may be it as well. We are all TR fans in here, why do we all continue to act rude to each other? I mean, within my first 3 posts on this board, I was "attacked" by a rude member. That sure does turn a lot of people off. |

Seemed like real people with real insightful opinions. So now I visit and read but dont post unless it seems important like this issue here. . . .i was kidding. why would i assume you visit porn sites when i don't know you? or, more importantly, why would i care? when i said "stay off the porn sites. seriously." it was a joke, but also, because again i don't know you, it seemed entirely possible that you did, in fact, go to porn sites. i'm not saying that you to do, but, you know, it seemed like it was possible for someone i don't know to visit a porn site. after all, people do look at porn. but, you are getting pretty defensive about it. . . |

Well there went another misguided soul! sheeesh What is wrong with people? The porn comment was an obvious joke! Some people are way too serious and really need to get a life. Hopefully Heather will be happy in her other "friendly boards." I certainly hope before she left that she changed the "contact response" to NO therefore eliminating any junk mail from the spammers who get on this board.
Again, dan, you didn't do anything wrong. Ya can't please everyone and if people want to come here fine, if they don't like us, fine, then leaving is the thing to do. What makes me kind of laugh is when people say things like "this is the worst board" or "I know why I don't come here" because I wonder if they think they are hurting anyone or that anyone cares. You have to be a pretty solid member here first before anyone would care if you left. Sorry to sound mean, but what a stupid reaction and all because of spam.

A few comments, on my part:
I agree with Pam's assesment that the board has been friendlier in these recent few months.
I believe it was clear that you were making a joke Dan, it definitely does not warrant the old chestnut: "Shut up Dan P. you cock." (or however it went)
I believe that we do have a community and a family on this board, albeit at times dysfunctional, however that is only natural. I have enjoyed meeting a few of the TR Task Force Members at concerts, particularly Kev Lesko, and look forward to meeting more. It's a pet dream of mine to make it over an east coast run of shows and meet another part of the board, Hopeful, PJK, Dave, etc. In terms of internet communication, people like Hopeful and John Semon have been extremely friendly and responsive. I've gotten Genesis stuff from Hopeful and TR/ME stuff from John Semon, simply be emailing and setting up a B&P. It's a great community to get music and information from, I've never dealt with someone on this board who was hoarding it all to themselves or unwilling to share.
We are a group of people with strong and differing opinions, to be sure, yet I think, as Pam stated, we are doing a better job of separating discussions from people and ideas. Perhaps to remain around this board you have to be thick-skinnes and you definitely can't take remarks and jokes personally, but I find that to be the case with life.
Anyways, I found the characterization of our board a bit unfair and uneven, but that's her belief and she's entitled to it. Well, there's my two cents. |

yeah, i mean, i'm not bashing porn or anything. i couldn't rightly sit here and tell you i've never looked at it. but you know something? even if i didn't, i wouldn't get super pissed if someone suggested i do. all i'm saying is porn sites do tend to carry that sort of shit.
i didn't want to say it, pjk. in fact i intentionally held back, because it didn't seem like it'd be constructive. but i'm glad you brought it up. i've heard the old "i used to come here but i don't because [whatever reason]" evergreen, page, lovetoday, xar, and that guy that tried to fight fluffy. all have said something to that effect. and every time i have to wonder "what are they trying to accomplish? do they expect me to feel bad?" oh, you're not coming back to the boards. what a blow the community. this may sound crass, but it is what it is: who fucking cares? i don't. i don't have any emotional stake in these people's posts. if you can't take a joke, or if you get offended that easily, fine. get out. i got no time for people like that, anyway. i mean, in the case evergreen, or xar, something could be said, because they actually contributed. i still don't care really, but it's noteworthy. as for these other ones it doesn't matter. they never contributed anyway. |

I also got a spam E-mail from this board and it was one of those Nigerian scam's ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_fee_fraud ) The user that sent it to me was "desmond36". If anyone would like see it i still have the e-mail saved. and it looks like i'm not the only one who was contacted by this person (or computer) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=desmond36&btnG=Google+Search
I use Gmail and I never get spam in my inbox so i got it not because of my spam filter not deleting it. The real problem is the board and how it is designed. I'm a member of many message board and none of them get as much spam as this one does. but having said that I still love coming to the board. |

I have gotten a few spam messages that appear to come from people on the board, but the names are usually one letter off or something. Then again, I also get messages from names that are the same or similar to other friends I have that I email or IM occasionally, but not often. I find that very strange. When I went on my cruise, I had over 400 messages in my Spam folder when I got back.
On the porn/spam connection topic, I don't frequent porn sites, and I'm honestly rarely on the computer at all, yet I still get TONS of spam mail. Luckily it's all filtered out so I don't have to deal with it apart from cliking "empty spam". |

I emailed a friend of mine and there was a form I had to fill out first, then he had to "OK me" before my emails would go through. I don't know what he had on his computer but I liked that idea. Most of my spam is filtered out, but some still gets on and the one from this board was one of them. I only opened it because it was from here, but I didn't get a virus since they are filtered out. Again, since I put NO in the contact part of my profile I haven't gotten anything from here.
I still think it's funny how people get so bent out of shape over little things. I was once that way too, but not anymore. I don't have TIMe to sweat the small stuff, life is just too damned short for that. Then there are some people who always have a stick up their butt and no matter what, they aren't happy.

It’s interesting pjk that you were being nice and sympathizing with Heather and i in the beginning. Then when dan started to attack, you followed along. I guess you really put us in our place with your “if you don’t like it don’t stick around” comment. It sucks for TR that some of the people who occupy his message board are chasing new and old people away and making comments like "leave if you don't like it". and that is exactly what you're doing here why else would you be so defensive about it.
Which is why i responded to dan as i did. Why would you even bother to post on this thread if you didn't get the spam?(due to the amount of contradictions in your posts above please don't answer that). I read the board for the first time in a while and come back to a condescending comment from dan similar to when i was on here 8 months ago. Thicker skin? yeah thats funny, more like i prefer to be in the company of people who respect one another. why does it have to be a place that requires thick skin?? so that you and pam can insult the hell out of someone and they are content with it? or.....we can "just leave if we don't like it". But you don't like it when i respond the same way back to you?? Oh and lets have this thread fall to the bottom so no one sees how a pattern is forming. Funny, but as Heather mentions, other message boards i frequent are NOTHING like the bad taste thats left from here. guess i'm not the only one feeling this way. and if i wanted to spend more time i'd find others that have made similar comments in the past few yrs.
pjk and dan you have contradicted yourselves quite a few times with your above comments/posts. I'll let you figure out where since i'm sure you wouldn't like an idiot pointing it out to you. i think you are confusing a lack of thick skin with confronting you about your comments and behavior. i do feel TR does not deserve this pointless squabbling that takes place on his website. I apologize for that but had to get my last 2 cents in after being attacked by both of you. makes me part of the problem but i refuse to shut up and let the insults go unnoticed. no one wants to read it (from me either)and its not fair to anyone esp TR whos trying to build a fan base not have them chased away. let me translate her post for those of us who don't speak idiot. "I'll let you figure out where since i'm sure you wouldn't like an idiot pointing it out to you." means "i just pulled an accusation out of my ass and i have no way to back it up." and "unless its for the benefit of others, don't spend a lot of time responding to my post, i won't see it." means "i'm running away because i know i'm wrong but i refuse to admit it."
