Full review coming tomorrow morning when I wake up, for now I'll just say that seeing Tim and Dave like that was something I never thought I'd see, and was a dream come true in that aspect. The night was a 10 out of 10. Tim played Come Together ---> Ohio for his solo. That's all for tonight, like I said more in the morning, I promise.

Good Morning!!! Right now I'm listening to the newly released 5.1 surround sound “At War With the Mystics“, drinking coffee, and still on a concert high from last night. What could be better? I guess I'll start off with the setlist as posted on Antsmarching:

**Other Notes by Kevin**
As I said above, Tim's solo was actually Come Together ---> Ohio with a wonderful TR soundscape jam in the middle of Ohio. The crowd totally messed up and started singing along to Come Together at the wrong part, pretty funny, at least they all got it right on the next verse. Whoever was doing lighting did a tremendous job, and when Tim's solos got spooky sounding, the lighting got very dark, and matched it perfectly. Kudos to lighting! Smooth Rider seemed to have a "Too Much" tease/intro. Some Devil was Dave Solo on electric.

Now, leading into the show: I got home Sunday night around midnight, could hardly sleep since I was so excited about the show, woke up at 6:00am, worked until 5:00pm, and then took on the arduous task of driving to downtown Los Angeles, in rush hour traffic. Luckily we were able to Carpool most of the way. I was a bit nervous I wouldn't make it as doors were at 7:00, but we made it with about 15 minutes or so to spare! I tried going in with my camera, but to no avail. I think since it was a benefit show, they had private security in suits, not the usual bright yellow poncho guys. (for the record, I think that no cameras is a lame rule now that anyone with a cell phone can take pictures and video). How about NO CELL PHONES!!!??? I'd been to the Wiltern a few times (Bela Fleck, Fiona Apple, Racontours) but this was the nicest I've ever seen it, again most likely because it was a citi bank sponsored benefit show, there was a red carpet out front, and it looked extra fancy inside.

The crowd seemed to be a strange mix of VIP citi bank people who were probably just there because they could, Citi Bank people who were fans, and plenty of Dave and Tim fans. By the end of the show though, everyone was singing along, especially o the songs off of Under the Table, and Crash. Speaking of the crowd, sitting next to me was a guy named Shiva who introduced himself to me, and is a friend of Tim's. It was cool to be sitting next to someone else who was there to watch Tim too! We were sitting towards Tim's side of the stage too, so that was cool. Unfortunately, behind me were two middle aged "high maintenance" ladies who were obviously not there for the show, the first song they were carrying on a full blown conversation with each other, Tiffany both turned around and gave them a glare, which temporarily worked, but around song 4 or 5 it started up again, and this time I had to get the meanest look on my face I could, turned around, got in their faces, and snarled "This is the last fucking time I tell you" haha, sorry to be so mean, but I wasn't about to let these whores ruin the evening for us. It worked, I think they got the point.

I have no idea if Tim was using his new Fishman pickup, but what Tiffany noticed right away is how crystal clear Tim playing sounded. Of course this probably also had to do with the fact that it was the Wiltern Theatre too, but the sound was amazing. Tim had particularly great solos during: Crush, Jimi thing, Two Step, Lie in Our Graves, Dancing Nancies, and Ants. Lie in our Graves was probably my favorite song of the night. They played it to perfection, and at one point played really softly which the crowd was silent for. Beautifully done. Tiffany and I were both surprised at how well the songs off Some Devil, and Stand Up sounded, I'd never heard those T&D style before.

I guess I can't do a D+T review with out mentioning the so-called "Dave-Speak", and there were sure some good ones. Dave said here in LA, everyone dresses so nicely, but the real reason you should dress nice is so that when you fart in line at Starbucks, you can blame it on the grubby looking dude. HAHA Dave also said that he and Tim were friends in a previous lifetime, as SQUIDS, and they used to swim around "inking" each other. One of the funniest things I noticed right away was that Tim had a mic stand and mic setup in front of him, I mentioned how funny that was to Tiffany because he never utters a word during these shows. Well someone in the audience kept yelling for Tim to say hello. Finally Dave said, "Oh he hears you", and 'the fact that we gave him a live mic is just to fuck with you mind!" Dave then said that if Tim were to speak, it would be like god talking and that the audience would melt, and only he (Dave) has a protective shield that blocks the destructive power, and lets him decipher what Tim is saying. That was pretty funny. In a more sincere moment of the night, Dave thanked Tim, and said of all the musicians that he has played with, playing with Tim was very special because Tim was the reason he started playing. This of course got a huge ovation, and a brief "Thank you Tim" chant from the balcony.

As I said above, this was really a magical night for me, almost surreal in the sense that I was really into Dave and Tim in '99 and since then dreamed of seeing them play together. Who'd have thought that 7 years later it would happen. Well it happened, and I'd like to thank Dave, Tim, Fluffy, and everyone involved in both camps for being such amazing, life-changing, and inspiring people and musicians. This will be a concert high that I wont come off for quite a while!

wow Kevin, I am soooo jealous! LOL Isn't it great to be on a musical high? I especially enjoyed the Dave Speak! BTW, I thought Tim WAS God.....didn't everyone already know that or is that something we only know on this message board? haha

The songs sounded like they would have been a blast to hear. I really want to hear a D&T concert but when they came around to a venue I could go to a few years ago, I couldn't get tickets and these shows were too far for me to even attempt to go to.

I remember when I saw Dave and Friends, Tim looked so happy, like he was having the time of his life. Made me feel good to see him so happy. I can't wait to hear him play again next week and the following week.

Oh, BTW, your post came at a good time, today was not the best of days for me, this post really made it seem like the evening (I have class tonight) might not be so bad. Thanks!

Pam, we did indeed notice a few times, specifically during the jam in Ants Marching where Tim had an ear to ear grin on his face.

Kevin, I'm so jealous that you went to this! I've been avoiding the new guy at work(who is as annoying as they come), by putting on my headphones and listening to D&T's last few shows from this site:

If this link doesn't work, just go to LIOG.org. It's great because they don't edit out the Davespeak. I've been laughing outloud all week!
