In my state, NYC, NY...
Its legal, at 18, to go to war and MURDER other human beings. It is legal to tear apart multiple families, killing off bloodlines that have lasted centuries and leave their body parts scattered, mutilated, and void of any proper burial or even identification. If I'm lucky, I can get a MEDAL OF HONOR for it. Yet, at the same time, its illegal to have a Miller Draft in celebration of it (National Minimum Drinking Age Act, 1984)
Its legal to own a pet shop and, due only to lack of space, uncerimoniously gas and kill scads of dogs and cats. It is also legal to take a cow, kill it, drain its blood, use its meat (tongue included) as food, use its skin as clothing, mash its hooves for jello, use its heart and eyes as science projects, then take its skull and use it as a musical instrument. But, if you fuck a goat, its Dragnet time (NY CLS Penal @130.20 (1994) Class A misdemeanor).
Age of Consent in NYC is 17 years old. Which means that I, at 24 years of age, cannot fuck a 14 year old under penalty for statutory rape. That is, of course, unless I marry her (NYC Marriage Bureau), in which case it becomes legal to fuck her all I want. But, because she's still under 18, she cant legaly watch other people get fucked (porno). As well, I cant take pictures of us fucking. So, I can legaly marry, then fuck, a 14 year old, but if I showed her pictures of other people fucking I could be arrested for disseminating pornography to a minor, and if I took pictures of me fucking her i would be thrown into jail for child pornography (US Code § 2256)
It is legal, at 21, to smoke cigarretts until I get cancer and die. It is legal, as well, to drink alcohol until kidney failure or alcohol poisoning kill me. However, if, upon smoking myself to lung cancer, I'm found cultivating an ounce of pot to ease the pain of dying, its a felony offence with punishment of 1 - 1.5 years and/or $5,000. If I'm also caught with "dirty drug paraphernalia" (read: used pipe), I can be sentanced under misdemeanor law to 1 year and/or $1000 fine on top of that (NORML: NYC) |

hahaha. yeah, let's talk about that.
i agree. i think that everything should be one age. if you're 18 you can go into the army, i'd say you're responsible for about everything. so make it all 18. army, porn, alcohol, driving, cigarettes, and fireworks. i mean, you get tried as an adult if you committ a crime at 18, right? why is driving 16 in new york and beer 21? and, most importantly, why are fireworks illegal to everyone? i say legalize that shit, and make the age 18.
i don't know about this other stuff, though. it's pretty funny when you look at it, and seems to violate common sense and logic, but if you're 24 and you're interested in fucking a 14, maybe you're biggest problem isn't laws. maybe its wanting to fuck a 14 year old in the first place. same with the goat thing. i guess fucking a goat isn't as cruel as butchering it, but if you're interested in goat fucking, probably you need to look into that first.
and the cigarettes/pot thing. i would have to say there's one rule that matters here and that's the "tough shit" rule. you smoked and drank your way to the grave. oops. you should have thought about that prior. and now you want to ease the pain? now when the consequences of your actions are finally here, you're looking for a way out? seems to me you forfeited that when you started down the path and never left it. the best way to ease pain is to not bring it on yourself in the first place. i eat like shit, and chances are i'll have a heart attack eventually. and i'll know when it happens that i have no right to bitch because i did it to myself. |

Dan I think the point he was making with the pot thing is that it's legal to take substances that will really harm you and after long term use cause death, but it's illegal to use a plant as a medicine. Never mind why you want to use any of them. It makes no sense that you have the right completely screw yourself up with alcohol or cigarettes, but you have no right to use a plant that is not as harmful as either of them. Nor is it as harmful as many drugs prescribed every day to people.
I do think there is something wrong with goat fucking though. |

| I have to say that I would prefer a ritual to bring about manhood/womenhood in preference to age. Once you had passed the tests required then you became an adult and everything from drinking to whatever would be legal. You just have to have a card or something saying you have passed the test into adulthood. What the test would be, I don't know, but in africa some tribe has their boys run across a herd of cows backs 6 times and you can only fall once I think. That doesn't sound too bad, but the dung smearing that goes on before hand and the fact that many parapalegics would never make it kind of shoot it down. I would prefer a test to an age limit. |

I have always been in favor of making the legal age 18.
I am pretty sure you can buy cigaretts in PA at age 18. Driving is 16 but that is when you can get a permit and you need drive a lot of miles with a licensed driver before you can get your Jr. license. At 18 you get your "Sr" license and can drive after midnight! LOL, strange I know, but as a parent of 2 kids who have been through it, I like it that way.
I just wish they could have drank alcohol legally at 18, but now my youngest is 21 so I don't care! LOL |

in NYC it is also illegal to make a right turn on red after a complete stop!!!!(and it is NOT posted ANYWHERE!)

You know, there are many instances where I agree with that law. Most of them are in busy intersections or in Manhattan (where i think right turn on red is better off not permitted, 9 times of 10). But, I still think the law is excessive most cases. Most parts of NYC, other than Manhattan, are populated with lights that end up hindering traffic flow due to no turn on red.
On top of that, there are places in my hometown (Queens) where the lights are just ridiculous after a certain time. In Berlin, Germany, the red lights turn to flashing red lights, effectivly becoming stopsigns, after midnight. I know a few places off the top of my head that would benefit greatly from that. |

my answer to many of those questions and complaints is to move to the south. haha
things are pretty crazy here, but we can make right turns on red and our stop lights do the blinking thing
we can drive around with open beverages in the car,
if caught drinking under the age, the cops will let you off with a warning as long as your not completely inebriated
can't fuck goats, well with other people's knowledge
as far of the kids thing. Umm age of consent is 16, though it must be with someone no more than two years older than them until they are 18. And both must be over 12 years old. WTF?
Parental consent is require for marriage if the child is 14-18 and previously unmarried. If there was a previous marriage, none is required.
