Anyone ever heard of this guy? My friend told me to check him out and I've listened to a couple tracks. Interesting vocals and the guitar work isn't bad. Nothing Tim-esque by any means, but some nice finger-style melodies. I'm just dying for anything off the beaten path, so it's a small miracle that I found something I can tolerate.

Elliott Smith is one of my favorite artists. It broke my heart last year when I found out he died. His lyrics are great and his music and vocals are amazing as well. Especially the way he records different harmonies with himself. One of the more talented "singer/songwriters" of the nineties.

Grab an album or two of his, like "X/O", "Figure Eight", or his last album published after his death "From a Basement on the Hill".

Ok...umm, he died? Holy crap. I was going to look for potential tour dates. What did he die from?

Glad to hear that I'm not misguided on the music. I'd actually heard it in the Good Will Hunting soundtrack and it kinda lingered with me. Damn, I like a guy for a week and then I find out he's deceased. Damn shame .

Wow...and thanks for the link. I just grabbed as much music as I could online last night (with full intent to buy today after work) and I'm listening to it now with an entirely different appreciation. I have some live track of "I Figured You Out" and it's semi-creepy to listen to now.

Yeah, it was last November. Supposedly he killed himself by stabbing himself in the chest, but the police have yet to rule it a suicide and a number or ardent fanst believe his girlfriend killed him.

Probably one of the best run "fan sites" ever.
