In your opinion, who is the greatest president of the USA?
I won't go on too long, since I have expressed my own views throughout the board. I'm a Theodore Roosevelt man all the way. |

Lincoln wasn't too bad, and off the top of my head I can't think of any other presidents that came from being poor like him to leading the country.

| Lincoln,I just saw a really good documentary about his life on PBS. What an intense guy for his time. And JFK because growing up in Mass.it was kind of a big part of life there. I was really young when he was shot, but I remember so many people crying and talking about it. Peace, Robin |

LBJ was effective at instituting massive social reform and contributed as much to at home issues since those attempted during the Despression. He inhereted JFK's messes, and capitalized in all of Kennedy's plans in ways that the former president could not have because he was a better "true" politician. He knew how to woo Congress.
Unfortunately, he also inhereted Vietnam, and while foreign policy (at least in my opinion) is the least important aspect of any president's tenure, foreign policy is an obvious, clear and distinct expression of a president's policies. The effects of war are always more apparent to the general public than any kind of social or civil reform.
I dunno, those are my reasons. |

I wouldn't say Bush was the worst...yet. Woodrow Wilson was the worst. He was a racist, revived the KKK, resegregated washington DC, and was duped into entering WWI by the British who then managed to start WWII via screwing over war-torn Germany. WWII of course led to the formation of Isreal, and later America's support of Isreal, creating animosity between the US and arab nations. Of course, after WWI, its all a stretch of the imagination to say that if Germany had won, it would have turned out any better. I am of the opinion that a peace accord with Germany in WWI where Germany had more strength would have been better than an outright thrashing after the US got involved...
Greatest president though? I don't think we've had a great president because I don't think our system allows us to. |

I read an awesome book about Lincoln once that revealed him for the tyrant he was... can't remember what it was called, I'll have to get back to you on that one.
I would say my favorite prez is Bill Clinton, but could you please clarify and define the word "favorite" before I answer?

| I actually heard about Lincoln being a tyrant, but I still think the things he did overall for the time he was Prez were worthy. I loved the Clinton years! What an entertaining time for America. And I have to say (don't laugh) Even though Jimmy Carter was a very mediocre President, I think he was, and still is an incredible human being, which I somehow think is difficult at best if your President.Peace, Robin |

I didn't say favorite, I said greatest. Granted, even that word has different meanings. Greatest in the since that they contributed the most to the country.
Or do your favorite, as to who has the most entertaining presidency. Either favorite or greatest, mine's still good ol' TR. |

| i don't understand why anyone's still talking about clinton's thing with monica lewinsky. republicans are especially guilty of talking about it too much. here's an idea: let it go. it doesn't matter. you make fun of bush, and republicans start talking about clinton like that has anything to do with what's happening now. like it has anything to do with anything in general. yes. clinton had an affair then lied about it. it wasn't good, but i mean, it just doesn't have a bearing on anything anymore. unless we're talking about clinton himself, it shouldn't even be mentioned or thought of. |

| Because people love drama. If nothing else, Clinton provided a dramatic presidency, which appeals to a lot of people. I've met plenty of people who say they loved Clinton, but couldn't name one political stance he took. Drama rules. As for his wife, I wish she'd get the hell out of our state. |

| i have never bewared of feminists. a ragged group of women desperately seeking things to be outraged over, long bereft of purpose or validity. what's their big thing now? porn is bad? so i guess women have a right to do with their body as they wish, so long as it isn't something feminists disagree with. why should she be able to choose an abortion and not whether to fuck on tape for money? and don't give me "it's degrading." apparently it's not for those that do it. everyone's dignity has a price, and they price is determined by the individual. |

Truman? That guy was a real douchebag.
The problem with feminists has been and still is that they have failed to change the men and instead have changed women. Sure the guys had to adapt somewhat, but I really believe it changed women's attitudes more then men.
I'm still looking for a job in the porn industry too. It is not degrading to me to have sex for money, but that's just me. |

"In books, we have this unprecedented freedom nowadays. There's nothing you can't say in a book any longer. Because text is so harmless. It's pictures that are the problem. As long as it's words on a printed page -- not on the Internet -- as long as it's old-fashioned ink, you can see for miles and miles. The feeling is that only elite people read books, so no one gets threatened by it."
Do you think that's led to a rise in the quality of erotic literature?
"Yes, good grief yes. That's why I'm on such a campaign to decriminalize the sexual content in films. Because you can see how much better the literature is when people aren't hedging and changing words and making absurd plot turns to avoid some kind of legal problem. If we had that kind of freedom in film, look out!
What happens when filmmakers can't have that freedom is they get very demoralized about pursuing sexual themes. Look at what happened with "Bound," the Jennifer Tilly-Gina Gershon movie I worked on, which I think was groundbreaking in many ways, and yet the American release of the film had some very beautiful seconds cut out of the lovemaking because it was considered to go too far. And it only went too far in the sense that those dinosaurs on the Jurassic ratings board feel uncomfortable with lesbianism. There was no beaver shot that had to be pulled. (Laughs) It was just their sense of anxiety about how exciting and arousing the scene was that had to be tranquilized by cutting some crucial moments.
And while the filmmakers are very proud of their movie and what they ended up with, they'll never forget the humiliation and the irrationality of that kind of censorship. After an experience like that, many filmmakers end up feeling, "You know, I think I'll make a tornado film next time. Who needs this?"
You can do the same old tired titty shots, but anytime you try anything more innovative or authentic or less generic, you're going to be faced with these roadblocks. Unless you choose to ignore the ratings board and financially structure your film entirely differently. Luckily, some people are doing that."
