do not see this stupid scooby doo mystery movie. It's not worth the amount of money to see it or the two horus of time. I'm so pissed it's amazing, everything that could've made this movie awsome is horrible and stupid. I'd explain why but i don't wanna ruin it for some people who might wanna see it anyway, but i warned you all. |

I saw it last night at midnight, and while I was a bit dissappointed, I'd definately reccomend it. Just don't expect a horror movie. I'd like to hear what other people thought... there were definately some creepy moments, and despite being boring at points, it held my attention the whole time, and I was always wanting to know what will happen next. |

I saw it yesterday and I wouldn't say it was the worst movie that I have seen, but M Night can still not outdo 6th Sense, which he tries to do with every movie he makes now.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone who may go see it and enjoy it, but if you want to know why it was kind of lame, and want it spoiled, feel free to email me at guitarguy305@hotmail.com or AIM me at GuitarGuy305.

if the movie was all like the 2nd half, with the 2nd half information, it wouldn't be the worst movie ever. it'd suck, but it wouldn't be the worst. it just makes you feel robbed and dirty. |

The more I've been hearing how everyone was dissappointed over this film, the more I think I like it! Was I a bit dissappointed that it wasn't the horror/suspense film that the promos led me to believe... yes. But with that said, was it still a cool, unique, well made film... YES! And what other movie do you get to see a director tell Adrian Brody: "hey man, just be yourself". |

Although not his best movie, he's still has a way of creating a mood (or some other vague term) in his movies. Reminds me of Tim Burton. Almost every Tim Burton I see, even if I didn't particularly like it, I walk away feeling that the movie was drenched in some kind of "mood." |

It does seem like M Night is always trying to outdo, or outtwist the 6th Sense. In an interview a while ago, he said that he had discovered the magic formula to a hit movie; obviously having something to do with a bid twist ending. What he doesn't realize is that making movies with the same "formula" gets boring to movie audiences.
The Villiage doesn't quite follow his formula though, I mean, there are definitely twists, but they come earlier than expected, and this movie twists a few different times, which I liked.
I will need to see this movie again, like his others. Knowing the twists and ending always makes his movies more enjoyable a second time. I mean, think of all the things you pick up on while watching a movie like the 6th Sense now, knowing the ending.

I liked signs for all but the last 10 minutes of it. I did have a few problems, like why would aliens that are defeated by water attack a planet that is 75% water...etc...
But, overall I liked it, until the end when I had religion crammed down my throat.

Maybe the aliens didn't realize they could be defeated by water. Have you ever read Andromeda strain? A satellite pulls out some virus from outer sapce and when the satellite comes back down to earth the virus is released and it kills people.
The aliens are like the humans in adromeda strain, they are discovering things beyond their homeland, some of which they can't handle.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong or let me know if I'm on the right path here....
There is a difference between a strain of unknown bacteria or virus and water. Water is a basic element in the universe. It is found on many planets and/or moons, but not neccessarily in liquid form....I would think if these aliens came from a world which had no water, then they would have probably needed some sort of protective suit and/or breathing apparatus to walk around in Earth's atmosphere, because a planet devoid of water would probably have a very different atmospheric composition. I think.
I can't believe I'm taking this so far, but it is core to my argument that Signs sucks donkey balls. It's the most sophmoric way to end a story, through easy resolution, no need to develop a big defense strategy or anything, just spray them with water! What if it was raining where some of them invaded, which it most likely was in quite a few invasion sites....fuck. M. Night Shamylan can stop pretending to be some fucked up genius. His real name is probably Leonard Anderson. |

I was under the impression that the whole point of Signs had nothing to do with the aliens, but how things happen for a reason. I didn't get the feeling that he was trying to be religious, just trying to show how all of these seemingly unrelated events and situations, all came together whether by fate or a higher power.
Granted, the alien was weak, but that wasn't the point. |

Signs DID suck, I agree, it was the worst. I was so mad at the end of it.
My point, is that I think you're thinking too inside the box from a earthling point of view. There's so much out that that we don't know or haven't discovered yet so I don't think it's fair to say his whole water thing was bust.
Also, like I said before, the water would be diluted in places such as in the air.
Just because water is everywhere we know of, that doesn't mean it's everywhere they came from
either way : Signs sucked balls and its not even a good enough movie to argue over |

I do like this movie better than Signs. I liked Unbreakable and 6th Sense as well. People are upset b/c there aren't really monsters in the movie as the trailers show. I think that's kind of the point. The trailers lead you to believe that it's a monster movie, and it's not. The twist of the elders being the monsters has an even greater effect b/c you don't know this going into it, unless you spend time on IMDB.com.
Plus, this movie is more believeable b/c the monsters are not real. Any moron can make a monster movie.

My main point is that M Night is not creative because he used an easy, and inprobably solution. It takes more creativity to engineer your way out of a problem than it does to bust a hole through it and take the easy way out. |

really. it seemed to me each and every line was delivered as though the words were made of cardboard. and it got worse as time moved on. it was almost as if the actors themselves just more fucking sick of it as the minutes drew on. and innovative or not, if it's bad, it's bad. i hate when people excuse something that sucks as "innovative." maybe if it weren't advertised as a horror movie, i wouldn't be so put off. it's like the time i got burned on that whole santa claus fiasco. |

exactly, it was advertised as a horror movie! i mean, what movie shows monsters and thens says oh it's actully a love movie (i know someone will prove me wrong but still). To be hoenst i don't think anyone would've seen it if it wern't for the monsters... i know i wouldn't. Also, i fount it quite odd that M. Night only advertised hsi name to sell the movie, he had some big names in there like, sigorney weaver, andreon (sp) brody, micheal cain, and the other pheonix brother lol. |

I started reading this thread before I saw the movie, I read to JoeGamoe's 3'rd post and stopped to keep from spoiling it. I went in the theater expecting crap, but I liked it. Then when you find out they're not real, I was thinking NO WONDER they all hated it. But then it got better, and I ended up liking the whole thing. The only thing I wonder about is: who really skinned the animals? and what color did Ivy see when she faced Lucius? My theory about monster/ghost/alien movies is, once you see the so-called object of horror, all horror is lost. I loved Signs until you saw the alien. The Ring I loved up until she came out of the TV, I just laughed at that. This theory explains why I loved The Others so much. No fancy special effects to ruin the realness of it all. However, The Village was the only movie where, even after seeing the things up-close and personal, and even after THE MOVIE SCRIPT tells you the age-old "they're only pretend" story, the things continue to creep the heck out of me. |

Oh and I also have to say that the porch scene was the best romantic scene I've ever... seen. Romance movies are so full of crap and unrealistic. No wonder you see broken hearts everywhere, it's because people subconsciously assume that there'll be a movie ending to everything and they're sorely disappointed when there isn't one. |

sorry about spoiling it but to explain why i thought it sucked you had to ;). I thought the same thing, I was like okay so who did skin the animals and if Ivy can see colors of people then shouldn't she know that it was Lucius, and another, did they vote on continuing)sp_ their way of life? |

I believe that Adrian Brody's character, Noah, did the skinning of the animals, and had found the costume and dressed as a monster before the incident near the end. He had to know the monsters were fake, because he was laughing and having a good old time while Ivy was standing with the door open while he and the others hid. He also began laughing and clapping at the beginning when the monsters were making noise in the woods. He knew they were fake, which is also why he would venture into the woods for berries. So, for whatever reason I think he was pretending to be a monster and skinned the animals. I believe he was actually quite mad.
The red paint on the door was done by the elders, to discourage Lucius and others from wanting to go to the towns. The skinning of the animals may have also been the elder's doing, but I highly doubt that they would do that to thier own livestock/food supply. It is mentioned in the movie that one of the elders was responsible for it as well, when Ivy's father is telling her of the falseness of the monsters.
Another part where Noah may have been dressed as a monster is when the entire town was gathered for the wedding of Ivy's sister, and the boys came in saying they saw a monster in the town. The head elder was in disbelief, saying "Are you sure?" to the boys. All of the elders were at the wedding, Noah was not, at least as far as I can remember.
Either way, Noah spent a lot of time in the 'quiet room' and would have had to have stumbled upon that costume at one point or another. I believe, at any rate, that Noah knew that the monsters were not real.
As far as Lucius' color, I believe it was the forbidden color, Red. Lucius was the only one not afraid of the monsters, and Ivy refused to tell him his color. She probably did not want him to know that his color was red, because he may then be afraid of the monsters, who are drawn to that color.
Just a few of my thoughts. Any other opinions or thoughts are greatly welcomed.

first off dan you are hillarious "april fools!"..i want to make a movie someday that has a huge budget and a lot of advertising power behind it..and then have a stupid ass ending like that so everyone in the audience is pissed as hell second...i liked signs..i thought it was very well written..i dont agree with the water idea either..but i think its just something you have to ignore.. third..i unfortunately spent too much time on IMDB and read someones idea that the monsters would be the elders trying to keep everyone inside..so i was praying it wouldnt happen..and when it did..i was royall pissed... 4th..as far as i can tell..you are absolutely right Adam..i think it was noah who skinned the animals and dressed up during the wedding..and pretty much everything else you said..i wish he would have explained the color thing but oh well..i wouldnt be surprised if it was red...and another thing..bryce dallas howard was incredibly attractive to me...shes not like..hot or anything..just like..cute....yet...it was better than some hot girl...anyone else agree? |

I do agree with you on that. You don't see many drop dead hotties in movies about the 1800s or older periods in history. It's not that they couldn't cast someone like that in a roll in a movie about a period in the past, but since they didn't have breast implants, botox, or the 1200 different ab exercises that we have nowadays, they probably wouldn't put pamela anderson or britney spears in a film about the 1800s or the civil war. Apart from the fact that those two can't act. Those were the only two names that came to mind when typing my list of those things they didn't have back then... You get the point...

100% Difficult to explain... my friend would use his "homestyle" theory, using the word homestyle to refer to any girl he finds very attractive yet isn't tan with large breasts & revealing clothes etc. I guess he figures they're like Arby's homestyle fries: They don't have the fancy cut of the curly fries, but they're still delicious. |
