I'm getting pretty damn sick of summer already...I'm falling into an aweful pit of poor hygene and depressed lurching...And to top it off, I turn on the TV this morning (er...3 in the afternoon)to see John Kerry in all his tall-headed wonder speaking from the corner of his mouth about abortion...He's got good views...on that...I don't really like the guy, he's got the same kinda...oooph...that all Presidential candidates have...Dave Berry said "Abe Lincoln eventually was so depressed and starved for attention that he ran for president (just like everyone else)" That's how I feel about the Presidential race, it's just a bunch of greedy bastards who want nothing but to be, basically, the most powerful man in the universe. So, naturally, I trust none of them. But hell, it's either Kerry or Bush, so go Kerry! It's the apathetic teenager view..."Ah fuck, it's either bad, or worse. I'll go with bad. What the hell, anyway, I'm gonna go lay down for a while and think about how much it all sucks." I want school to start up again. I want to see more people. I don't see enough. I think everyone would agree with me here...one of the best aspects of life is seeing other people...It's really fascinating. Just to see another entity...I love it when you are talking to someone and they tell you a story about one of their friends, and it's something totally unexpected...We've all been in that situation...you know something about someone, they don't know that you know it...but it adds a lot of depth to their character, and it makes you realize how diverse human life really is. I sound like a stalker.
My grandma is paying me a hundred bucks to clean her damn car. Sweet.
I have some type of boil on the back of my leg. I do not know where it came from, or what it's purpose is. But it hurts tremendously when I sit down, so I haven't been doing much of that lately. At first, I thought it could be a monster zit, and it still could be, but my efforts to contort myself enough to be able to see it resulted in nothing. Pinching does not pop it. That approach only makes it sting. I tried looking in the mirror, but I can not look at my bare ass seriously without bursting into immediate nervous laughter (think about it...there you are, naked, turned in front of a mirror, looking at your backside...In the mirror, you can see your head turned, intently looking for a red spot (there may be several hundred of these) that has been causing a great deal of discomfort...it's probably the most rediculous thing a person can do) So I've decided, or, more appropriately, We've decided, to let it sit for a while, let it chill, bare the pain. Then give it the needle.
And for my Album recomendation, Neil Young's ON THE BEACH. It's so amazingly wonderful. It leaves you with this feeling, you can't describe it, but you know it's there. That's how this summer is making me feel...like I'm on the god damn beach.

Jay whether it's a boil or zit what's important is that I have the cure. This seriously works to draw out infection and whatnot. Take a raw potato and a peeler. Then in one spot on the potato take the peeler and shred into it till you have a small handful of the shreds. Then basically get a small plastic piece like saran wrap or something similar and use it as the cover to hold the potato the area with the help of some tape. Put it on at night before you go to bed and then you can take it off EDIT: (after you wake up). Just make sure it's tight enough so that the potato shreds are against your skin good. It really does work. Here's something that can tell you more about the wonderful boil.
quote: A boil is a pus-filled nodule that is a result of a staph bacteria which can result in an infection. It's actually an abcess that develops in the hair follicles and usually occurs on the neck, buttocks, face, ears or underarms, but can be located anywhere on the body. A boil can be painful, swollen, red and tender. The boil lies just under the skin as a bump, and later develops into a pustule. The boil can be contagious when the pus draws to the suface and can contaminate nearby skin causing more boils. When the infection spreads in a cluster, it is called a carbuncle. Recurrent boils and abcesses may indicate the immune system is depressed. Poor nutriton, diabetes and illness may be contributing factors for a person who is prone to getting boils.
It's important to look at the diet and see what's missing. A good balanced diet should include vegetables, grains, fiber and fruit. It is also wise to include yogurt, kefir, or acidophilus (friendly intestinal flora). Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of pure water daily. You may want to consider going on a short cleanse to rid your body of toxins and to re-balance the body's Ph. Several herbs have been indicated to help cleanse the blood as well. These are red clover, burdock root, celery, milk thistle and dandelion. Echinacea and goldenseal help cleanse the lymph glands.
To relieve pain and swelling, apply a hot moist cloth over the boil to help soften. Never squeeze the boil as it can cause infection to spread to the bloodstream. Allow the boil to come to a head, then you can lance it with a sterilized needle. Sometimes a boil will drain on its own. When it's draining, cover with gauze and change the dressing several times a day to avoid spreading to other areas. Keep the infected area clean at all times.
You can apply honey, which is one of the oldest remedies for stubborn boils. It also helps raise the boil to the surface when left on overnight. Bruised fresh cabbage leaves or a raw potato are great for their drawing power. Place directly over the boil and cover with gauze. Aloe vera is a natural antibiotic which may also be used. This can be applied several times throughout the day. Fresh figs can also be used by mashing them up and applying to a warm poultice. This remedy has been shown to pull out infections fast. In health food stores you can find either an ointment or salve containing goldenseal and myrrh. These are also good infection fighters. An old folk remedy indicates using a piece of bread soaked in milk or lemon juice. The area can then be covered with a loose bandage and left on overnight.
If the boil becomes large, and they are recurring, surgical incision and draining may be needed. Consult your physician if the methods above are not working, as antibiotics may be indicated if the infection gets into the bloodstream.

I agree. I think that's why I like to join groups. I'm in the alumni groups for my college and my sorority. Each time I move, I meet a whole new set of people who are interesting in different ways. I have also joined two groups here in Stuttgart which have allowed me to meet some Germans and few Brits: 1) my English-speaking book group meets once per month; that's where I met the Brits 2) the Society for Creative Anachronism gets together on random weekends, and that's where I've met most of the Germans I know (besides my landlord). There are also a lot of American military people in the SCA, although our numbers have been dwindling in the European gruops since so many bases have closed.

I am wondering if these two things may be more closely related..... |

I was wondering the same thing? Did you try the potato? You know, much of the old time home remedies work as well or better than today's medicine and I for one tend to trust them more.
When I was little, if we had an earache, my mom would cut a potato in half and place it on the stove. After it got real hot she would wrap it in a towel and we would hold it to our ears. Always felt good. Looking back, I guess it wasn't the potato as much as the heat that helped. I don't think we owed a heating pad. Don't even know if there were electric heating pads then. God I am old! |
