I just picked up the new jaco pastorius big band word of mouth revisited cd, which is like a bass tribute to jaco, with jaco's old band. the bass list is victor bailey, richard bona, jeff carswell, jimmy haslip, christian mcbride, marcus miller, david pastorius, jaco, gerald veasely, and victor wooten. So far it's fuckin' great!! i haven't heard it all yet but the jimmy haslip and victor wooten tunes are "off the hook!"
if you like bass, or jaco, or jazz, or funk, get this!! ITs damn good! |

Thanks for the review I'll have to check it out. Gotta love Jaco and you gotta love a tribute with those kind of names on it. |

ok, this is really weird...
At jmu, i'm in the jazz program, and i just signed up for a jamm improv class. the 3d day of class for me(which was today), a guy named gary keller comes in, who knows our sax professor, and does a master class with us. I heard a rumor that gary keller played with jaco some, back in the day. well, i look around some and check my new jaco band revisited cd, and in the liner notes, there's gary keller!!!
wow, it's soo cool how that goes full circle...and i had to play walking bass in the class for gary keller too!! |

That's cool you got to play with him. My brother had the same thing happen with his piano teacher sort of. He was listening to this album I don't remember what it was, Possibly a Diane Shur (don't think that's the right spelling but) and he looked on the cd case and found that his teacher was the one playing on the album. Anyway my brother was in a jazz program and he got to meet some cool musicians so you'll hopefully get to meet a lot of cool guys yourself. And it looks like I'm going to have to start playing in the jazz band at the college. Cause it just makes me jealous ya know everyone mingling with these musicians and me just at home playing by myself for the most part. |

Ya defunitely have to appreciate the men on the keys. While my brother is still no Art Tatum he does suprise me every once in a while with some really cool stuff. I only wish I could play good piano and not the style I play which is sub-par. |
