Its been a long time since i posted.. but now iv got a burning question. I use heavy gauage 0.56 daddario bronze strings for my semiacoustic but why doesnt Tim use it? Whats the pros of light strings?
Perhaps it's to save his fingers? He typically plays insane music for long amounts of time... i use mediums and my fingers are raw after a while of jamming with my friends... maybee i dont really know.. but he also has small hands etc..
A .56 is medium, BTW...I use meeds cause I love the sound, but many acoustic players (Leo Kottke's 6 string is strung with lights) use lights because they are easier to manage, like bending. Especially if the guitar is tuned up to standard. I use mediums tuned to C#, partly because i love low tuned guitar, and partly becasue i like using mediums, but I don't want to destroy my guitar with the added tension.
Tim most likely uses lights b/c of the bends and such he does. And just for the sound of them. Heavier strings sound different. Let's not forget that Tim replaces the low .053 with a .056 to accomodate his drop D C and B tunings.
