I've got some extra cash to spend and I'd like to pick up a few CDs. So I was wondering what are some of the artsits that you guys are listening to now, and if there's anything you'd suggest I pick up. No John Mayer! |

Another David Byrne CD I recommend is Rei Momo. Great latin rhythms!
I'm also a big fan of Red, Hot, and Blue -- a Cole Porter tribute album. |

I haven't heard too much of David Byrne's solo stuff, but I'm a huge Talking Head's fan. |

Well.....as of late, I've been really getting into modern orchestra music (e.g. Last of the Mochicans (sp?) and especially final fantasy music). If you ever liked some of the music from the final fantasies, you can buy CDs of the songs on amazon......or even better, just download them from Kazaa. |

I'd actually been playing Final Fantasy VII as of late.
Quick question Vicwootenfan, what's your favorite Live Phish (of the officially released versions)? |

I don't have all of them either, but I've really been listening to #9 the concert from 1989. It's got a great version of YEM on it, and they whistle the Andy Griffith Theme song. Lot of good covers too.
Oh, and do you have "Three Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"? If so do you like it? It's one of the only Flecktone albums I need to get. |

the number 9 concert is really good, i like hearing the older versions of some of their songs. page's keyboards sound soo low quality it's funny! i really like donna lee on that cd as well. I need to find some phish stuff with jeff holdsworth on it too, i am curious to hear how that sounds(i've heard not that good tho)
3 flew over the cuckoo's nest is good! it's that transition period after howard and before jeff and so there's a lot more vic a lot more bela and a lot more futch. it's just very chordal very bare-bones and very melodic. one of my favs, personally. |

I'd suggest Live Art. Or "Left of Cool" it's got cruise ship music! "Almost 12", you know what I'm talking about right Vicwootenfan? |

Audioslave
David Gray, either White Ladder or A New Day At Midnight if you're just getting into him
Third Eye Blind, their first album is far superior to their 2nd, but its got its gems too. The singles are a terrible example of this bands talent.
One last honorable mention: Audioslave.

I bought The Flecktones Live Art today...good smokin' music.
Here's a recommendation from me:
A co-worker knows these guy and gave me the CD today, good stuff. They are called And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008NRKY/qid=1049411369/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-7906644-0643136?v=glance&s=music&n=507846
And while going to Amazon to get you guys the link, Chaos View was on my homepage as a recommendation (I've bought a Tim CD through there once I believe)...it had this tagline...
"Such is the clout of Dave Matthews that even the most minor of his Charlottesville, Virginia, brethren are lifted to prominence. Witness the left-field success of Tim Reynolds, a frequent DMB live..."
God, I wouldn't consider Tim to be the most minor...if anything, he's one of the most influential! |

If you like Sting at all... "All This Time" is a badass album. I all live acoustic versions of a bunch of his best/classic songs. I've been listening to that album a lot recently. |

funny, i didnt like that one at all. too toned down, too over jazzed on some of those classics. Stuff like All This Time just seemed to be *missing* something. |

I'd definitely agree that not every song is any better than the original recording... but I think there's just something enjoyable about listening to songs that you know, played a different way by the artist. Kind of the same allure to hearing D&T strip down the songs that DMB play. Plus, I just love the jazzy feel of the album. Diff'rent strokes... |
