I bought his new disc "UP" yesterday when it was released after hearing absolutely nothing from it, so I didn't quite no what to expect from it, especially since it has been around 10 years since he put out a solo effort. But let me tell you, I am flat out blown away! The best way to describe it is "Peter Gabriel in 2002". It has a lot of drum machines, and industrial, orchastral and even trance beats, tons and tons of layering, but it sounds sooo great, especially with his legendary voice over the layered music. Come to think of it, I guess it can be compared to what Tim is doing with the pagan underdogs. I think it's amazing how artists like Tim and Peter, Tim who is in his mid 40s and Peter who has to be around 55 are still keeping with the times and pushing the envelope and continuing to experiment. Anyways, I think i'm starting to digress from the topic, so let me end by saying that I rate "up" with a grade of "r" for RUN TO THE STORE AND HAND THEM MONEY FOR IT!

Hey Kevin, TR got it after Rolling Stone panned it. He loved it. He says it is quite eclectic. He says Peter must have been taking those "crazy pills", so of course we all had to hear it. Everyone in the van decided it was GREAT. We were able to draw comparisons to early Genesis and even things as bizarre as Einsturzende Neubauten. 3 cheers for PG's new effort. Fuck the critics, what do they know. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!!!

I saw him play on Conan and it was really freaking cool. Does Tony Levin play on the CD also? He was playing w/ him on Conan...

I just caught his video "Barry Sanders Show(?)" and that one was strange. I thought that DMB's stuff was weird, but this brings it to a new level.

It's the Barry Williams Show.....but hey, Sanders, Williams, who cares....Ha Ha. It is about a talk show and how they are pushing the limits and how people can't seem to get their fill of them, and the crap they talk about on them. It is my least favorite cut on the album. Signal To Noise, is my favorite, Darkness and My Head Sounds Like That are close behind. The whole album is awesome!

Haha!! What was I thinking? Why would he write a song about a running back?

Interesting, RS most be the one bad review its gotten. I've sold tons of copies of it at work (I even have it as my current pick) and after chatting with a lot of the costomers who buy it, I've learned that they all couldnt wait to hear it based on the amazing reviews they've read.

Maybe we can change that to FUCK ROLLING STONE! Especially for putting Jagger on the cover of the current issue WITHOUT A SHIRT! EWWWWWW can anyone say LEATHERMAN

Here is a quote from an article in Pulse magazine: "It was late in the game that I learned my song's fictional talk show host shares the name with the actor who played Greg Brady"

Also in that Interview I learned that Sean Penn directed the video for that song.

because barry sanders is the best running back of all time. if peter gabriel were to write a song about a running back, it should definitely be barry sanders.

Hey Kevin, just wondering what your favorite cut on the album is. The more I listen to it the more I love it! How about the Nusrat Fateh in Signal to Noise. I can't wait to see Peter doing some of these songs live!!! I got the tickets last week and I keep getting them out and looking at them because I have never had second row floor seats before. This is going to be one hell of a concert! You do know he is going to be in California with his tour, right?

Pam, what a tough question, to be honost, the only two songs I dont like are the one after BWS and the last song. Everything else I LOVE. If I had to pick a favorite though, it would be between the first two.

I saw that Peter is visiting L.A. but Im thinking I wont be going. The show is at the Staples center (20,000 people) and Im not really a fan of concerts like that. I'll most likey be paying way too much for a bad seat. Who knows thoughm I've been known to change my mind at the drop of a hat in the past.

Kevin, if you go on PG's website, www.petergabriel.com and go into the gallery section, there is a picture of Peter, and I think Tony Levin with Barry White. You might have to sign up to be a member to get into that section, I don't remember, but it's free to join so what the heck.
As for the concert, it is VERY expensive. Most of the venue's have sold out of the "cheaper" seats and I had to pay $96each for mine, but I do have 2nd row seats. Some of the venue's were charging $130 for the lower levels. Having said that, I am telling you this is going to be an amazing show worth every bit of the $$$$! The stages are going to be in the "round" setting and different levels....not sure exactly but the talk around his website is that there won't be a bad seat in the house.
I know what you mean by these types of concerts, I went to my first "large" concert since my college days this past July. I saw DMB with my daughter. We had a great time but the concert itself wasn't the greatest, not because DMB was bad but because the sound sucked. I vowed then that I would never go to another one like that again, but I didn't want to miss Peter and I also ended up getting tickets for The Other Ones, who are the former Grateful Dead,(minus Jerry ofcourse)...so much for vows!
Anyway it is worth thinking about, I really think you'd love it. Pressure's on...HE HE HE.

I am not sure, but the confusion could have come by way of a talk show host named LARRY Sanders. Barry Williams, Barry Sanders, Larry Sanders. I see the kosmic connection between all of them.

Talk about getting names mixed up.... I meant a pix of PG, Tony and Barry WILLIAMS, not Barry White...although he does have the sexiest voice in the world! HeeeHeeee

So lets see if I can track the chain of confusion:

Barry Williams(Brady Bunch) became Barry Sanders(running back) probably by way of Larry Sanders(talk show host) because the Barry Williams that PG sings about is a talk show host and a talk show host has to talk, implying he must have a voice, which brings us to Barry Williams, a man with the sexiest voice. Now there are 4 people I never thought I would see in the same paragraph together. What is it they say, 6 degrees of seperation? Can't we figure out some way to get Kevin Bacon in there?

Now, to work on the Kevin Bacon thing...hummmmm must be a connection somewhere! : )

HAHAHAHAHAHA PJK, It's even funnier that I screwed it up trying to analyze it. Just goes to show! Anyway, lets try it again:

Barry Williams(Brady Bunch) became Barry Sanders(running back) probably by way of Larry Sanders(talk show host) because the Barry Williams that PG sings about is a talk show host and a talk show host has to talk, implying he must have a voice, which brings us to Barry White, a man with the sexiest voice. Way to go Erich!!!!! There is great info on www.tonylevin.com about the tour. I am so psyched for this one...especially since I have never had second row seats before.(they are promising there won't be a bad seat in the house) Also because it looks like the Blind Boys of Alabama will open the show....they are awsome! You won't regret this Erich! Now to get Kevin to go! Come on Kevin!!!

Hey Erich and Kevin....check out Tony's site updated 10-20. It has new hints about what kind of show we can expect from PG this time around.
