I think if he was going to shoot him he should have done it right when the door got kicked in. Having him sit on the couch and the shooting him is kind of....i dunno, a little sick. I mean if you shoot him right when the door gets kicked in, it makes sense, cuz u don't know if he has a gun or whatever.
Shooting him six times also sounds like this guy had some kind of problem...even though the fact that the intruder survived and managed to climb out of a window is perhaps evidence that your friend is either a horrible shot or he meant to only wound him for a slow death or at least to experience agonizing pain.
So I guess I don't think he went about this the right way, obviously he didn't get in trouble, but it still sounds like he has some issues possibly. It kind of reminds me of that scene in American History X...

And the point that he was naked is???? Your friend is one sick puppy and is a perfect example of why gun control laws don't work. But this was in Texas, and while I don't want to offend Texans they do march to a different drum!

Ok, I'm clueless about this. I know a lot of guys who sleep naked. Are you saying by his being naked that is what made him disturbed??? Really, if I was sleeping naked and someone broke in and I grabbed a gun the last think I would be thinking of is putting clothes on.
The fact that he asked the guy to sit down and when he did what he asked and he still shot him repeatedly....now to me that is the disturbing part.
Now was he still naked when the police came???

i think if the burglar was stealing my hambergers i would pop a cap in his ass. . . . seriously though, if he posed a threat to the home owner i would say its fine to kill in self defence. even if he had shot him in fear that he might be a threat, like through a door, but make sure it isnt your kids first. but the fact that he sat him on a chair and shot him, uhh yeah that guy shouldnt be allowed to vote.

Remember, turn off your tv. Read.

If I was in that position, I would have given the burglar fair warning to get the hell out of there. Because, he is obviously going to rob again......but then that brings up the question of whether or not I should kill him to protect others......I know. I would tell him to stay where he is and call the cops. I'd also tell him that of he ran away, I'd shoot him.....but just in the leg. I wouldn't want to kill anyone unless it was absolutely necessary (my, or someone else's, life in danger).

Ooops, forgot to answer your question. If someone breaks into your house and threatens you or anyone else in the house, I think its fair game to do what ever it takes to stop them. In your friends case however I don't feel he had the right to shoot the guy because he had other options available, like calling the police.

As for living in Texas, I am glad you took that as a compliment because it really was not meant as an insult. My sister and her family live in Texas and they love it there. I just know that some of the philosophies are different than in the area where I live.

I think you should be able to injure/kill an intruder if he broke into your house.

But what I don't get is when someone goes to court saying some crap like "Oh, I broke into his house, but he beat the shit out of me with a bat, so I'm going to sue." What is THAT about??

It certainly is sick that someone would do that... but I might question the reliability of your source Xar. If the burgler was shot 6 times at close range without being mortally wounded, that means that unless he was fat bastard, at least one of the bullets would seemingly have to hit a part of his body shallow enough for the bullet to go through, at which point crime scene investigators would be able to see that this person was sitting down when he was shot. Also, if he WAS caught, then his wounds would certainly be examined and it would likely be determined where he was shot from etc. Crazy story nonetheless.

That depends on the situation.... If he's armed and threatening your life, hell yeah I wouldn't hesitate to blow his brains out. Oh sorry that sounds a little strong from a female. Especially if my kids were in the house, the dude wouldn't have a chance. Well, that's how I feel at the moment. Don't get me on a bad day! LOL!

That's some crazy ass shiznit. I certainly wasn't questioning your credibility, only that of your friend. I dunno... I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable hanging around someone like that though. I mean, shooting someone that's coming at you is self defense... telling someone to sit down and THEN shooting them is attempted murder.

I don't really care if killing/wounding a burglar is immoral, it's called self protection/self defense.

What I DO know is that it is wrong to break into someone else's fucking apartment/house.

Just to be safe, I'd shoot the shit, or beat the shit out of him, then grab a knife from my kitchen drawer, with a towel or glove or somethign on, then wrap his cold dead hand around it...and throw the knife aside, and say he tried to attack me. Just to be on the safe side...hypothetically.

Sorry if that seems harsh, but I have no sympaty for criminals of any kind. Besides, it's Texas, he'd get the death penalty anyway.

Hell, had this happened here in California your friend would be in jail. The laws in Texas say its fine to use deadly force to protect one's life or one's property. Shit again here in California, the only way your friend would have gotten away with that is if the intruder was going to kill him. Shooting/stabbing from behind like that would also constitute attempted murder. California gun laws suck too.

my 2 cents

Been trying to get one for a while, I take it?

That reminds me of when Homer goes to buy a handgun, is found "potentially dangerous", which translates to him only being allowed three handguns or less. And my favorite quotes from that episode are.......

"I don't have to be careful....I have a gun."

"I'd kill you if I had my gun!"
"Yeah well you don't!"

"That gun had a hold on me. I felt a strange surge of power, like how God must feel when he's holding a gun."

LoL!! I like it when Homer has to wait for 3 days to have a gun and kill something, and he's sitting in his front yard, and the people he hates walk by, like Patty and Selma, Ned Flanders, a bunch of rabbits, lol.

Hehe......and then he is "dancing" in front of the store saying "Come on! Open up!" And instead of getting his gun right away, he goes to the bathroom.

I think it's amazing (and cool) that every conversation we have on this board can be related to an episode of The Simpsons.

Like I said, make it look like self defense.

If an intruder was anywhere near my instruments, and I had a weapon. I can't say that I would not use it. I think you should be able to defend your property and life. But the example provided is a tad, extreme.
