The club that Tim will be playing at in Salt Lake is advertising on their phone system and on their web site that "Tim Reynolds of the Dave Matthews Band will be performing." I don't think that Tim's association with DMB should be a promotional factor. Those that show up expecting to hear Crash and Satellite will sure be let down. I also think the venue should make a little more of an effort to actually find out who is playing on their premise before misleading the public.

The venue just wants the most people to come, hence, making the most money from ticket sales. It doesn't need to be said that DMB's popularity is on a different plane than that of Tim's solo work, so as a promotional phrase, "Tim Reynolds of the DMB" is what is going to move the most people into that show. I agree that this tour, having nothing to do with DMB, should not really be associated as such. But if people come expecting DMB songs, and get blown away by Tim's solo acoustic work, then Tim has new fans which is fantastic. That is what it's all about... spreading the music to those who appreciate and like it. The only drawback that I can see is that Tim and his fans may have to put up with some dumbasses crying out for "Ants Marching" and "Crash" through the whole show, and that whether he may want to or not, he is still being associated as "the virtuoso guitarist for the DMB." Just my 2 cents.

Just to reply specifically to that question about them putting Tim as a member of DMB... Yeah, that is definately misleading. Unfair. But I think if you were to hear any other member of the DMB (other than Dave) on a solo tour, you wouldn't be hearing Crash or Satellite or that stuff. So I expect that at least some of them will have the sense not to try to hear that. But sometimes I catch myself attributing too much credit to fans, this is probably a perfect example.

That said, I feel sorry for the true Tim fans that go to that concert, having to put up with all the DMB fans that will get bitchy at the drop of a hat.

anyway...

ugh, tims not even IN the DMB... they would never say "Carlos Santana of the Dave Matthews band" or "Bela Fleck of the Dave Matthews Band". Thats just lack of respect right there, as an artist he should get the credit he deserves and shouldnt be in Daves shadow at *all*.

The concert I went to in Iowa City had the shittiest audience I have ever seen at any live show. Most of them were there to see "Tim Reynolds of the DMB" and my girlfriend and I could not believe how inconsiderate people were being, calling out for stream and chatterbox constantly. Oddly enough, stream and chatterbox are two of the most played songs by tim at earlier D&T and Stream was on a little double disc set called Live at Luther College....hmm...coincidence??

To my surprise he actually played both songs, maybe to try and calm the crowd, but of course it didn't work. A few people around me were commenting ot Tim's guitar skills, in awe of how fast he is, etc... but most of them disappointed and embarassed me. And they were disappointed that tims set didnt consist of all dmb's songs.

I actually heard one person say "i'm just waiting for him to play Crash" I wanted so smack them silly..well i belive ive said all this in other posts, so I'll shut up now.

Just a quick note for Erich...I didn't mean to imply that Tim is IN DMB. But he is most definately a PART of the DMB. Whether or not he always is with them or not. He, of course, is much more, however, than a part of DMB. He is an amazing solo artist. He is an amazing solo artist FIRST, a part of DMB SECOND.

I agree, he shouldn't be in Dave's shadow. And he should get lots of credit; he does deserve it.

Just didn't want you to misunderstand me, that's all.

And Adam, I can't imagine how you didn't smack that person silly. I think I won't be able to not, unless it is simply for the fact that I like to be quiet during concerts hoping to set a "good example." Good for you, tho.

I certainly agree with Liz and Fluffy, that sums it up pretty much.

And maybe Tim reynolds, featured several tims with the Dave Matthews Band"?

The posters could read "Appearing Tonight: NOT DAVE MATTHEWS!!!" then in smaller letters, but still ledgible "But Tim Reynolds"

Sort of like the Dog Chow Rat Poison thing from SNL...

Seriously though, they could say Tim Reynolds, as heard on various DMB recordings or something like that.

Man I know exactly what you are talking about, I was also at this show, and I think I know exactly the guy you are talking about. He kept using the defence that Tim was his hero and that gave him the right to yell! I was glad that he played stream, but was also disgusted by the crowd around me, it almost made me ashamed to be in the crowd. I'm just rambling now though so, peace

Hey John, if you go to the setlists section of this site, and look at the setlist for that show on 4-10-01 in Iowa City, you'll see that it looks like Tim had planned on playing more songs than we got to hear, then he scribbled over it and wrote "INDOCTRINATE"
Indoctrinate, in case you didnt know this, is a song he does with TR3, and that was that stuff he was yelling "The stupidity of the average man is controlled by propaganda...Masturbate till you feel okay..etc..." are lyarics to Indoctrinate.

I have a feeling Tim got pissed at the crowd, and decided to end the show early, which pissed me off even more when I saw that setlist..if thats what happened. I'm positive there are songs on that set I can make out under the scribbling that I would have recognized that I did not hear.
I'd really like to ask fluffy about that, if he remembers.

I do remember that Tim looked down right pissed when he left stage the first time, before he came back out and started yelling that Indoctrinate stuff.

Once again, all I can say is, despite the shitty crowd, Tim was amazing.

I personally really miss the "masturbate till you feel OK" lyric. I don't know if TR could revisit that singing of the song as he has sung it differently so much he would probably really have to force himself to remember to change the words back. OH WELL, I have my memories of the original version!(snicker, snicker sooo Beavis and Butthead)

I was just saying that to my buddy! I said: "God I love the new acoustic version of Indoctrinate, but I miss the masturbation lyrics and tasmanian devil sound effects!" Ha ha. Great minds, eh?

he should play a rendition of "Let You Down" at the show

. . . I let you down, let me kick you in the ass, I let you down, I'm not dave's "sundance kid" . . .

I'd also like to say, he shouldn't be in Dave's shadow. If anything, Dave should be in his shadow (but of course there should be no shadow). Tim is the person who finaly got Dave to perform onstage.

And when LeRoi was asked about Dave's performance, " . . . it was a . . . beautiful night," lol!

How close to TR3's version of Indoctrinate is it to the version of Astral Projection. I also played that CD in computer art class over the speakers. When it got to that masturbate line . . . half the people stopped and were asking if that's what they heard!

Sorry if I confused matters somehow, but the "TR3 version" is the Astral Projection version. That lineup was more aptly called "Puke Matrix" but I still refer to them as TR3 someTIMes. TR mentions it all the TIMe in intros of the song, but the lyrics were culled from his notes from a Noam Chomsky lecture in C-ville. He often credits Noam with writing the lyrics. So there are 2 versions, the Astral Projection version and the acoustic version on Parallel Universe.

Your right Kev, it hasn't.

I'd like to hear some more of the Astral stuff acoustic. Or hell, I'd give a kidney to see a TR3 tour, in any incarnation.

If your kidney would generate enough money for Hypnotist lessons, and ninja lessons (to break into Tim's home and hypnotise tim . . . I am just kidding here) you could be onto something.
