So does anyone have any version of this that I can get really soon? I'm willing to buy a disc with it on there, but I dunno. I'd like to hear the song first. So if someone has a disc with this and can get it to me somehow, I'd love it. I think it is on the White Album and also on Anthology 3. I don't have IM (I'll get that, too if someone tells me how) and I'm on a 56. So I guess my options are limited.
Anyone that can help or point me in the right direction, I'd 'preciate it.

Not trying to be a dick ... but what is the fascination everyone has with the Beatles? I honestly don't get it. 90% of musicians say they love the beatles and are influenced by them, but I don't see it. Am I really missing something here that everyone else hears?

Now Hendrix, I can feel that. He is truely amazing and I love his music. But I'm still not down with the Beatles, oh well ... I'll have to listen to them some more and give 'em another shot.

i agree with you Black Lotus, i only like a few Beatles songs, other than that, i don't like them much. As far as classic influences, i cite Gordon Lightfoot, Hendrix, and Dylan, I don' knwo if you would count Kottke as lassic, but he's in there too

Don't get me wrong. I am not at all a big Beatles fan. In fact, I actively don't like most of their stuff. But since I'm learning the one song (which my friend covered at a show and I liked, thought it was an original and then when I found out it wasn't, I tried to play it), I think it's best that I hear how it sounded originally.
So that's the only reason I want it. And I think that's a pretty cool song. Most of theirs..no, I don't.

I use to be able to play Blackbird many moons ago. That was about the only song I could play well. I haven't touched my guitar in years, it's in the closet collecting dust. I gave it up because I didn't have anyone to continue teaching me at the time. I know I have the tab for it somewhere packed away. The Beatles are great, I saw them play when I was just a "little girl". It was bizarre, all these girls screaming, crying and fainting. I couldn't even hear them play.....

I am a HUGE Beatles fan, but I can understand how most people just don't get it. It is a preference thing. The thing I tell people who don't like the Beatles and try to blow them off, is that style influence aside, you cannot discount their influence on music in general. Thanx to the Beatles, people started writing their own music. Almost any band from the period, Stones, The Who, Clapton, and even Hendrix have at one point or another attributed the Beatles success with originals as the thing that opened the door for them. Just think where we would be without them. Whether you like them or not they are directly responsible for alot of the music we love. That gives them a place in music history no matter what you think of their music. Would TR be doing what he was doing without the Beatles? The world may never know. All I say is Thank God for the Beatles. Who knows where music might have gone without them. Keep in mind also that the British Invasion led by the Beatles is also listed as alot of American bands big influence. I don't believe it can be discounted with so many of the artists we know and love saying the Beatles started it for me.

Just heard Ed Ved sing....."Hey, you've got to hide your love away"....solo with just his guitar and harmonica.....Geez it was soooooo good I almost cried. I will not say he did it better as I have about other songs they cover cause I just can't disrespect the Beatles that way...But WOW was it a sweet version!!!!

Yeah it sure does. I might be wrong but I think it was Evergreen who was talking aboot it and was talking about mostly Pearl Jam covers. I got a great video of Ed doing a cover of The Times They Are A Changin'. He's one of those singers that can take the simplest of songs and do incredible things with it cuz he sings straight from the soul.

Is that the one from Madison Square Garden, the tribute to Dylan thang? I have a bootleg CD of that and the legitimate release. I can't remember what song he does on that. EV has an amazing gift for interpretation and making a song his own. It is truly amazing. Another one of those gifts like TR has.

That's kewl, If I remember correctly, Stone Gossard backs him on the Dylan 30th Ann Concert. This is all from memory, so I may have my facts confused. I hate not being able to get at my CDs. Whatta drag!!

That would be the Beatles self titled album with the white album cover. You know it was never titled by the Beatles. Everyone just calls it The White Album for some reason. Maybe because the cover is WHITE. Officially it is just called The Beatles(eponymous)

Werd. I OFFICIALLY have a copy of Blackbird, now. I don't have any idea who the hell is singing it, but it is off the I am Sam soundtrack and it's a girl, not one of the beatles, best I can tell. But I can tell how it's supposed to sound, so that's the main thing. So now I've officially heard the song, thanks to morpheus, and whoever suggested it. Also some good alysia Millano porn, which I'm appreciative about.

To really understand why the beatles were such an amazing band, you would have to take a time machine back and listen to them at the pace it happened, not hear them after you already heard like Bush or Creed(lol awful bands), you or your generation has grown up and heard everything after the beatles, everything(good mostly) today is influenced by the beatles. Just trying to think what good music today without the beatles would be like thinking about an omlette when there are no eggs.
lol, i guess that works...
so yea, since you have heard all new songs from today that you grew up with, when you listen to something older like the beatles you might think its not "technologically advanced" or "simple chord progressions" or whatever, unless you are a true song writer or musician, you won't be able to fully understand the awesome impact the beatles made on music and society.
And just to be more specific, one thing the beatles did before anyone else would be like the falling chord shape(don't know the 'official' name) where say you have an A chord and you change the bass note like to Ab then to G then to Gb then to F(or A to G# to G to F# to F) or whatever.

yes I forgot one main point, they were the first band to write their own songs, before them everything was pretty much E A B.
Another person who probably could have been great was Buddy Holly, he was a good song writer but tragically he died before he even began to write his best stuff.
Hey why dont you download BLackbird from like Kazaa.com, get the beatles version, its the best version you can get, its very easy to play as well. Theres probably tabs out there somewhere but hell, it wouldnt be like figuring out Kundalini Bonfire by ear.

Hey Rubylith, I don't know if you read what I put above, but it looks like we are on the same page. I definitely have to agree with you about Buddy Holly. I have always thought him one of musics biggest losses, right up there with Hendrix and Lennon. The problem with Buddy Holly was we lost him so early in his career. The Beatles always list him as one of their MAIN influences. One of the first songs they ever recorded was a Buddy Holly song. Buddy was also an innovator, as he was writing most of his own music, very few covers. My dads favorite musician is Buddy Holly, subsequently he became one of mine. Truly a genius and a huge loss to the music world. I always wonder what would have been if he had lived.

I know its a shame, I think that great artists dieing is the reason why popular music from the eighties till today has SUCKED, most of it anyway, I mean lets see let me think of who I listen to that unfortunetly lossed members:

yea i think to have recieved the greatest amount of influence it probably would ahve happened as it happened back in the 60s when what they did was so extraordinary JUST happened, sorry im probably confusing you worse then Mellissa Etheridge. But as far as sitting down and putting on a beatles record, that will forever influence anyone who listens to it.

Try this. I wasn't DIRECTLY influenced by my mom's parents. But it is safe to say that some of their influence came to me thru her.
Beatles = grandparents
Mom = bands influenced by Beatles that also influence me
Me = Me
That makes sense to me.
