Guys, gcom over at dmbtabs.com is arguing against me, saying that Tim Reynolds
quote:
"has absolutely no good feel for melody, no sense for it...his solo's are just a million notes and that's pathetic. Everything is about playing a million notes because he can, not because he should. It sounds like garbage! Everyone blows their load over it ... none of you irrationally listening worshippers would have a clue who that overglorified clown is."

I have been trying to set gcom (elliot) in his place, but if you guys could help post some support over there it would be great!

The thread is here: http://www.dmbtabs.com/boards/viewtopic.php?p=106326#106320

come support Timmy!

i love this kind of guy. he took a couple of high school music classes and now he thinks he knows something. it's hilarious. i noticed a lot of dave matthews fans do this. they see that dmb is (or was) widely accepted as good music among music students and professors, so they think they somehow know more about music than the next guy. and that might be true, if the next guy is a fucking chimp. i can't recall hearing any solo of tim's that didn't quite fit. he uses some of modes, which anyone who really knows anything about music knows about and can recognize. saying that the notes don't fit because they don't start and end on the tonic or submediant note proves that he really knows nothing about it. sometimes i'm not a fan of the way he phrases some of his melodies, but that's just a difference of taste.

i'd go tell this chump what's up, but really, i don't feel like making an account on another board just to show some guy how much of a douche eater he is.
Something Nasty Posted - 01/14/2004 : 12:56:24 AM
obviously the guy has never listened to Tim's albums. And he says that his notes are all out of place when he solos with Dave. He should go back and listen to Tim's solo in #41 L@LC. Its the most beautiful sound in the world. Tim rules alone and in my opinion rules on backup guitar any day.
Arthen Posted - 01/13/2004 : 02:08:37 AM
That's funny. For a long time I wanted a Taylor too, but I played a few Martins and ended up getting one instead.

Hey, actually, I did come up with guitarguy610 a year or so ago when I was looking for a new email address. As someone else guessed, the 610 is the model of Taylor guitar I wanted for the longest time. I guess I should change it though, because over christmas I bought a Larrivee LV-03RE and I love it more than any taylor guitar I have ever played :P I don't think GuitarGuyLV03RE is as good...kinda looks like guitar guy lover-somethin.... yikes..

Or maybe they're the same guy? Like when a guy named Jay Martin came on the board and enthuTIMsiast (jason martin) said, "This is weird" Jay's are cool, I guess.

Just ignore him. I've been reading the dmbtabs boards for a while and occasionally posting...I think that that gcom person gets off on pushing other people's buttons. He's just an ass.
rubylith Posted - 01/06/2004 : 10:06:43 AM
heres a proven fact that tim CAN write melody,

its called "Smile"

oh wait what about "Los Alamos is Burning"

oh and "Floresensce"

umm there is more umm what about "doom"

hey i almost forgot, "chatterbox"

letting go, hopeful heresey, breathign space, you are my santity....

the list goes on, so once again i must stress, this fool obviosuly does not have ears, or possibly he suffers from some sort of mental disorder, or it could be him being a cold hearted republican, heh anyway...

tim you rock, your melodies are unlike anything I have heard, and you continue to inspire me everyday...

thats enough proof for anyone
DMBFreak84 Posted - 01/06/2004 : 07:22:12 AM
i love how people think they know what melody is, and that tim cant write any
Arthen Posted - 01/06/2004 : 02:06:40 AM
I'm extremely amused at how the gentlmen, Elliott?, thinks that by becoming a session player, you've succeeded as a musician...

How ironic PJK, I was reading this thread(I have not visited the thread on the other board)and thinking that what has been said about the discussion reminds me alot of the problems I encountered with Isaac back in the "GOD" post many moons ago. Opinions vs facts, defensive attacks instead of standing up for your position. blah blah blah take it from me, looks like you have gotten yourself into a similar "no win" situation. Good luck, I know how frustrating and sometimes infuriating it can be. Why are people so unwilling to recognize their words are only THEIR opinions and not provable facts. It's just so bizarre. As I was reading this thread from beginning to end I kept thinking of my thread with Isaac that led to his eventual absence from our community. Boy was I surprised to see his name in the last post on this thread as I was reading it and being reminded of my similar situation.

For the record, from personal experience, in this kind of situation, ganging up on him will not help the situation. It will only make him more defensive and strengthen his resolve that he is right and EVERYONE else is wrong. If the one-on-one approach isn't working then ganging up would probably only make it worse. I found with Isaac that the format(typing on a message board) got in the way and offered to have a phone conversation with him about the subjects at hand. Sometimes you can get alot further with a one-on-one(actual) conversation than over the internet. It's alot easier to not listen to the otherside over the internet. In a REAL discussion(if they are actual willing to listen)can be alot more productive. That's just my 2 cents.
PJK Posted - 01/05/2004 : 9:28:35 PM
Matt, just wondering, is the Issac over there the same one who used to post here?
victorwootenfan Posted - 01/05/2004 : 9:02:01 PM
now i'm getting sucked into this tab site...even tho i don't really listen to dmb that much, and i really am against using tab to learn music... their are some ignorant people over there tho...someone started a gay marriage thread, and wow... gcom is on that one, with some others..
rubylith Posted - 01/05/2004 : 10:26:43 AM

KevinLesko Posted - 01/05/2004 : 02:37:30 AM
In one of that idiot's posts he mentions, in so many words, that Tim leeches off Dave. This is yet another example of this guy's ignorance because here is a quotation from Tim himself:

"I'm not going to call him up and say, "Hey Dave, can we do an acoustic tour?" That would be crazy. He's so much bigger now than he was the last time we did the acoustic shows. On my part, it would be a sell-out move, because it's not what I want to do. And I could just sail along into the big time on Dave's name - John Mayer is totally copping that sound and living off that. I've already gotten what I need from working with Dave, spiritually. But I knew I had to go out and do my own work" - Tim Reynolds

That right there is not opinion, it is a direct quotation from Tim Reynolds on the subject about which this Eliot guy opinionates himself.

Ok, you guys got my curiosity up so I went over to have a look for myself and what can I say? That guy is the east end of a horse going west!

Seriously, we all know what kind of musician TIM is. Guitar Guy, you were actually starting to get to that guy, did you notice how his language changed? If he really knew what he was talking about he wouldn't have gotten so defensive. He is really not worth wasting your time with.

I think this thread should just end. Actually, that thread should end, then this one wouldn't have to continue. LOL
Zachmozach Posted - 01/04/2004 : 6:03:15 PM
Yeah, I've been accussed of musical elitism before, but this guy really takes the cake. Just sad that he can't just accept the music for what it is and enjoy, but he has to make the music meaningless by analyzing it to death, and trying to assign some definate value to something that is so relitive. All in all ridiculous.
DMBFreak84 Posted - 01/04/2004 : 4:32:30 PM
the one thing that ticks me off about that kid is he thinks he knows everything there is to know about the music industry
GuitarGuy610 Posted - 01/04/2004 : 4:25:18 PM
Yeah, I just wish he could agree that its his opinion and that everyone can have their own. its getting worse and even more hopeless overe here, lol.
PJK Posted - 01/04/2004 : 3:49:39 PM
Ditto what Kevin said. I didn't go over to look because that kind of thing just gets me ticked off, so whats the point?

TIM doesn't need defending GuitarGuy, I am sure he appreciates it that you tried to do that, but don't sweat it. I know I get kind of annoyed when it seems like he isn't getting the credit he deserves but in the end its all opinion and everyone is entitled to their own.

Fluffy always had a good come back about opinion but damn if I can think of it now.

Really, just relax and don't let it worry you. Trust me, TIM could care less.
GuitarGuy610 Posted - 01/04/2004 : 3:42:25 PM
yeah, hes a asshole, as far as I can see (sorry, lol) esp. with the "president of nDMB discussion" in his signature, like hes big stuff. Some people just never learn.

Rock on Timmy!
