They work for me.
I can make MP3s of the songs from the 7/24/04 show. But I'll have to do it later tonight.

Yeah. At least Dave can realize that he's not feeling a song, and his fans probably wouldn't either, such as Cigarette Lit, and keep it off the album.
I agree that the song as it was wasn't that great. Was more like three songs, or the beginning of a song, the middle of Crash, and the end of Blackbird (some other semi-famous band's song). If he'd put together a song as strong as Cigarette Lit, as it started then I think he'd have had another Satellite on his hands. |

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 6:21:39 PM I think Cigarette Lit is a fan given name. Someone did mention an interview in a guitar mag where Dave talked about the song, and refered to it as Cigarette Lit, but I don't know if that is true or not.
Cigarette Lit is like the 4th or 5th time Dave has used the same guitar part in a song. The verse part has been used in other songs like Little Thing, Dreams of Our Fathers, and An' Another Thing...and I think there's one more, but I can't remember what it is.
The outro of Cigarette Lit is exactly the same as an older song by DM called Hold Me Down. Only difference being that this time it's being played on a guitar in raised B tuning.
There is another thing that I found interesting about Cigarette Lit, which as far as I know is a scratched song, that will never again see the light of day, is that the chorus:
The rain falls down, I'm not alone Covers all of us, in silver light In silver light, and all, I beg you, stay with me Let it rain all night
And the part in the new song Joy Ride that goes:
Money is clean, if we scrub it good Guns and gasoline, we could save the world Nothing is obsene if we just close our eyes. Boys and girls welcome to this joy ride.
Those parts sound a lot a like to me. Both syllabically and muscially. I think perhaps Dave used the part from Cigarette Lit for the chorus of Joy Ride. Joy Ride is of course more energetic than Cigarette Lit, but the similarity is there.

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 4:14:16 PM Lilywhite was good, I'd say it would've been better than Crash. Then they went and fucked up "Captain".
Cigarette Lit didn't really impress me. |

Dan, you have a way with words and comparing things to Tolkien. That sums it up. It's kind of sad, but it also makes sense, because who could make something as good as BTCS and then follow it with a better album?
The Lillywhite Sessions came close to BTCS...even though they weren't an official album. |

Posted - 08/18/2004 : 07:47:48 AM BTCS never did it for me.
I like Sugar Will best of the new songs, and second is probably Cigarette Lit (if that's the name). |

Posted - 08/17/2004 : 7:52:09 PM Hello Again is my favorite. Download the 07/24/04 show from antsmarching.org. Pretty good quality, and a good show overall.
There was also a track that was dropped from Some Devil, Dave Matthews' solo release, that was leaked a few weeks ago, called Cigarette Lit. I really like it. You can download it here:

I hope that link still works. I can't test it b/c I'm at work.

Posted - 08/17/2004 : 7:29:08 PM Joyride seems to be the song that is the most like older DMB. I'd say that the quality of the songs is right around the "Crash" level. Nowhere near BTCS unfortunately. |

Posted - 08/17/2004 : 5:43:59 PM Most of the time I silently agree with you, Arthen...but I must take exception this time . In my opinion, Sugar Will is the worst of the four new songs. I'd rank them Thing (when intelligible), Joyride, Hello Again, Crazy Easy, Sugar Will. But that's just me. |

Posted - 08/17/2004 : 3:23:23 PM Sugar Will is pretty good. I like most of them based on the music. I don't understand most of the lyrics.
Just go to Antsmarching.org. The 2004 server was up last week. |
