"But, um, I think where we are.. we've always played wherever we can. The real challenge is not rejecting that to me and saying, “no, let's go play tiny venues.” It's trying to make those big places seem smaller, and make the person sitting in the back row feel like they're part of the show." - DM
Am i the only one who thinks that quote is discouraging? First of the "but, um" sounds like he's struggling or comming up with a way to sugar coat the fact that he doesn't want to do another acoustic tour (another small venue one at least).
The way its worded seems kind of confusing, but to me it sounds like he's saying that he's saying that its just not practical for them to be doing small venues as popular as he is. That compounded with Fluffy's comment about Dave hateing the screaming drunken fratboys in my "does tim mind requests" thread, makes me think we won't see another small venue acoustic tour.
Maybe they're gonna try to come up with a good way for the 2 of them to play stadiums or something like that, but I think Dave definatly sounds a little apprehensive about another acoustic tour in this interview.
Granted he does say that he wants to work with Tim for the rest of his life, but that doesn't necessarily mean acoustic tours. Maybe he just meant having him guest on albums and at shows.

In a way it does sound like Dave is saying he is too big of a star now to play with Tim again on a tour. But, it doens't realy seem in Dave's character to become that way, forgetting all the "little people" when he hits it big. Dave seems like too much of a down to earth guy to do that.
In a way though, when thinking about the next time I get to see Tim solo live, I almost wish Dave and Tim wouldn't tour again. So that maybe next time I see Tim, there won't be as many people there expecting to hear a set of Tim playing DMB songs.
Or maybe they could just do a breathalizer at the door of the next D&T tour shows.....but that's not practical.

H I'm with ya... I think there will be another acoustic tour. The music is just too great for them to pass up ever doing it again. And I am always hearing stories about how easygoing, humble, and down to earth Dave is, so I don't think he'll ever get such a big head that he won't play with Tim... after all, if you take all the talent Dave has in singing/songwriting/playing guitar... Timmy has all of it just in his guitar playing, and I think Dave eats it up. Case in point... the way he says that he loves each night to get blown away when he introduces Tim to play "Stream" on L@LC. -J

Yeah I've read things in guitar magazines where Dave things about Tim like "his playing is inspriational" or "he's my guitar hero" or "his stuff can move me to tears" and I remember him saying something about the D&T tours, and just staring at the monitor, listening to what tim was doing and not beliving his ears or something, so I doubt that he would just blow Tim off like that.

I agree but still disagree with everyone. I think there's a fundamental point being missed. Dave isn't saying that he won't tour with Tim because of any reason concerning Tim. I think Dave is just fed up with people yelling at him [and Tim] while they are playing. And one very simple and concise way to avoid that is to not do a duo acoustic tour with Tim. It sucks for all of us that missed it the last time (and all the times before) but that's the way I think it is. So I think Dave loves Tim and his guitars. But Dave doesn't love to get yelled at. I think I could go on and on about this thread.

Yeah enthuDMBsiast I was gonna say my point got lost there. Beyond just the fact that Dave doesn't appreciate drunken frat boys, I also think the fact that he has grown in popularity so much (especially with the poppy shitz he picked up with Everyday). Ticketing locations are gonna have people camping out for days to get tickets which they don't want (and they'll fuck everyone over with the lottery to avoid it), There will be fights at ticketing locations when only 2% of the people camped out get tickets and the rest get pissed, and the majority of the tickets will wind up getting scalped for like $500.
And even if Dave and Tim are down to earth and don't mind the smaller profits from smaller venue's, RCA and whoever else sponsers the tours will probably bitch and then some because their only making a fraction of the money they could. They just see it as an inefficient use of their product and they'll fight it tooth and nail. Also the less devoted fans who don't get tickets will be pissed and they'll end up loosing some fans in the longrun too.
The politics behind all this sucks ass, but there isn't anything we can do about it shy of destroying 2/3 of DMB fans.

You say exactly what I mean, Isaac. It isn't that Dave doesn't WANT to tour with Tim, it is that he knows exactly what you said, that most of the people he wants to play for would miss out on such a venture. And that isn't even mentioning what the record label would think. I think the best option for Tim and Dave (since everyone asked me, ha) is just to record a studio album, sans the B of DMB. But I also think that isn't practical, so who knows. I still hope that someday they do tour again.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine Dave not wanting to play with Tim anymore, who would play once with Tim and say fuck it I'm never playing with him again, especially after these two have known each other so long! It is totally as Isaac tells it and it is the circumstances surrounding Dave. Listen to some shows from 99 and when dave tries to tell a serious story drunks, and non drunks, are yelling at him to do a song! I mean once he was telling a fricking serious poem and someone was yelling at them! I have read that one time they got sick of an audience in C-Ville and said could you please just shut up! How could anyone want to return to that, especially when it will only be heightened by the pop release of Everday! They'll show up yelling I Did It! at an acoustic tour! But they could probably pull that off, maybe...

I'm divided. I've looove to see D&T together... cuz I've never seen it! But at the same time what kind of places they gonna play? Matthews name is almost too big for little venues to afford bringing him in.... Add that to the idea that fans got progressive worse, it went from shouting requests to drunken fools booing Tim's solos! I might not wann go back either :P

If Dave and Tim did do an acoustic album it'd have to be live, I mean i don't care if they do the show in secret and only invite hardcore fan's through some warehouse lottery or something, 'cause if they went into the studio and had a producer (god help us if they stick Glen Ballard in there with them), thats just gonna limit it to a fraction of its potential.
Both these artists are at their best live, so i'm hoping they just decide to do another acoustic tour but stick to Statiums or better yet, maybe Amphitheatres or medium-large venues. I have confidence that with the success of L@L showing the potential for D&T acoustic tours, they'll come up with something to satisfy as many people as they can.

Yeah I think it would be awesome if they did a secret show through Warehouse. Maybe find a large area of members, invite them to a small venue explain to them, please don't yell out songs, and do a two in a half hour set and record it! If I could get it on CD that would be enough for me!
