So, I was just looking up news about Peter Gabriel, as I do every now and then hoping to hear something about a new album or tourdates, and found out that he's hoping to complete a project entitled "Scratch My Back." The concept is he'll record a cover of an artist's song, if they cover one of his. Now, this sounds like a dream come true.
I wonder who's on his shortlist of potential artists? He's limited covers over his career, the few I can think of are Joseph Arthur's "In the Sun" which is superior to REM's version and an old version of "Strawberry Fields Forever." Anybody have any thoughts or hopes for potential song/artist choices? |

DMB have done Sledgehammer. Also, D&F have done Salisbury Hill. With DMB's huge catalog of a variety of songs, he might look at them. |

Tim plays a lot of Gabriel as well. Red Rain, Mercy Street, San Jacinto, In Your Eyes, etc. As y'all know.
I think his Mercy Street or In Your Eyes could hang with the best PG covers. |

TR's "San Jacinto" is my favorite. And his jams off of "Of These, Hope" are always stunning. |

It seems to me that DMB will be contributing a cover of Solsbury Hill to this project. They've been soundchecking it recently, presumably in order to learn it so that they can record it over their tour's break in a couple of weeks. |

Eh. I was never big on Dave's version of "Solsbury," I thought they managed to do "Sledgehammer" better. It'd be more interesting if they put more of their own spin on it, though. |

From what I have heard on Youtube, DMB's version is better than the D&F's version. |
