He did it, and with a landslide! I remember many people here saying months and months ago that the country was doomed, and that Hillary Clinton was obviously going to win, no question. Then people saying McCain would win, no question.
Sorry to dissapoint, but both were WAY wrong!
OBAMA has been elected as the 44th President of the United States of America!
My choice for president was either Kucinich and Obama. I believe Obama will bring change, get us out of Iraq safe and sound, cut the taxes for working families, tax the big business, stop jobs from being shipped overseas, help the environment, and get our health care and economy back on track.
I am so happy that I could cry. I almost did earlier tonight.
I know there are some here who don't trust any politicians, but I trust this man. I trust 3 people in politics, Russ Feingold, Dennis Kucinich, and Barak Obama.
I am really happy, and can't wait to see this country start going the right direction for once. |

Change is great! I have high hopes. I hope you voted. Safe and sound out of Iraq? I have already lost three good friends and 2 cousins there and no matter what happens or when, there will never be safety or soundness with regards to the war. It is good that the mongor did not get elected though, it does offer me a big slice of hope. Now that the republicans are out of office, where will the middle east get all their money?
As far as trusting politicians, arghahahaha! Never... gonna... happen. Its like trusting a crack head, they don't see my new stereo, they only see what they can get for it.
As long as Oprah is happy we should be all set right?
To comment on a far more personal issue.... Massachusetts voters decided to decriminalize weed in amounts under an ounce! It actually won by a landslide! I guess all the lawyers and doctors and judges who smoke in their closets after work finally found their balls and voted. That or they were so stoned they couldnt read the ballot. The commercials by ex-policemen advocating this question were surreal and bipolar but they made me smile just the same. Either way....yaeee for Massachusetts!
We also voted to ban greyhound racing effective 2010. I dont bet on dog racing. I think if the question had been to enforce more regulations on the handling and treatment of these dogs, it would have sufficed to the dog lovers out there and the track would have stayed open but its just as well. |

I'm glad Obama won, but Prop 8 passed in California, to the shame of the country and the state. I'm disgusted with the outcome.
The good thing about Obama's victory is that so many people voted for him and he has promised so much, that he will be held to a higher standard as President than any previous president in recent history. He has the mandate of the people, but that will, hopefully, guide his decisions and actions. |

Only the millions of dollars the Mormon Church invested in the yes on prop 8 campaign, using scare tactics to make people belive gays getting married would turn into an assault upon children. |

I, for one, am glad Obama won. He is the only candidate that actually said what he planned for his term in office. Even though I don't agree 100% with the things he has planned, I voted for him for the greater good. And the other candidate only ever said why Americans should NOT vote for Obama, but never really stated what HE would do as president.
I think it will be interesting to see what happens the next four years. Will the economy magically fix itself, probably not, but I think this nation made the right choice last night.
As far as people thinking Obama is a Socialist, I have to laugh at these nutjobs. According to some things I heard, some coming from my brother in law, unfortunately, they basically expect the USA to turn into a Socialist or Communist country under Obama. I'm just glad that these scare tactics didn't scare people away on the day that mattered. |

Don't you know that Obama is going to make everyone socialist and he's going to make everyone get abortions from terrorists who became legalized citizens once he closed down Guantanamo Bay? And he has sex with Osama bin Laden and wants to approve gay marriage. The bastard. |

Not really, lol. I tend to disagree with you on most subjects. But to each their own.
Anyways, I am very happy that Obama won. So are millions upon millions of people who were outside the country that didn't vote! The world finally looks much more kindly on America once again. Now I am not ashamed of saying I live in America. America said enough is enough, and I think Obama is one of the few right men for this job. |

I think the shame of America and the way it treats the world cannot simply go away based on this election. The layers upon layers of shame will need to be exfoliated slowly and although I think the election of Obama is the first giant step. I see it taking years of good choices and human rights reconciliations before my American conscience can feel pride again. I do think that Obama is our best hope for that happening. I think McCain would already be fanning the flames of long burning-old money funded-republican set fires which we clearly need to douse and let fizzle out. GET THE HELL OUT OF IRAQ and let those people heal and develop their own democracy-or not-its theirs to ruin; I'd bet it won't cost them 10 billion a month either. How can we expect them to do things OUR way when our way is obviously still so bad? Come on, how can WE be the experts at this point? For Iraq, I think I will always have shame. |

Will Obama repeal the Patriot Act? Or hold the Bush Administration accountable for their war crimes? I keep getting told, "that's not important now Dave".
I have hope that this country is headed in the right direction, however, Obama has surrounded himself with the people who CAUSED this economic collapse.
What troubles me is the backlash I have gotten from just speaking out against who Obama has chosen as his chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel. I was told, "not now Dave", "support the president elect Dave". The same people who stood side by side next to me speaking out against Bush and the war are now brainwashed by the very same thinking that we were fighting back then. DON'T QUESTION THE SAVIOR.
OBAMA has to prove to us he is not one of them, but when he has deep ties to Wall Street and proposes to increase the size of the military and send more troops to Afghanistan, supports wiretapping (voted yes on the FISA bill), and voted for the BAILOUT (bank takeover) that makes me think he is just like the rest.
Cross your fingers folks. As of right now, Obama is beginning to look just as scary, or scarier then Bush. No you say?
Remember when we would look at Bush supporters and be like "how could you possibly support this guy?" That's what I feel now with Obama supporters. THE GUY SUPPORTS WIRETAPS, AND WANTS TO CREATE A DOMESTIC MILITARY MADE UP OF YOUNG PEOPLE, AND WANTS TO SEND MORE TROOPS TO AFGHANISTAN, AND SAID HE WOULD BOMB PAKISTAN!
I just know when this is all over I will look back and feel good that I wasn't duped, I voted for the real peace candidate Cynthia McKinney ("who can't win") But that's about all I will feel good about. Our poor beautiful country is dying, and now it's gonna take another 4 years to wake everyone up again.
Look out for the solution to this economic collapse...
I love you guys regardless. Please don't shun me.

You're right though, David, despite your at times overbearing opinion.
Everyone [Americants] is looking here [the U.S.] for answers because they have no vision. It is going to be immediate changes in foreign policy that are necessary to turn around this country's problems. Not internal taxation or what the hell ever people 'think' is important. You cut back the biggest "defense" spending budget in the world, and all of a sudden a shitload of money becomes available for things that will actually HELP people.
FACT: Despite our genocide of this nation's indigenous peoples (global amnesia?), the world looked to us for answers and trends. We need to get back to that and set a positive, NON-IMPERIALISTIC example, but most importantly, begin to cultivate true CULTURE here. Community-based, do well for all, not best for few attitudes. Or we're still fucked. |

let's look at this a moment. she couldn't have one. you know this, and it is now demonstrably so. given that, why would you vote for someone who can't win? hope for victory and change can't be the motive. a desire to take votes away from the two candidates who could win might be the reason, but they're going to win anyway, so that doesn't make any sense, and even if that's the case, that's just spiteful. nothing noble to that.
the only reason left is to feel good about yourself when things start going wrong. you get to hold your head up high, ignore the fact that you don't know how your leader would have done, and say "i wasn't fooled." i don't know about you, but when i want to feel good and not effect anything, i usually just jerk off. |

Ruby, sometimes I just want to bop your over the head with something. You never have any hope for anything. You always tear down everything. You always blab about conspiracies and how every politician alive is some crooked man or woman who only want money or power or something.
Sometimes there is a bit of truth in what you say, but I think in this position you are wrong. I am not going to debate with you or get into details because I just don't see the point in arguing with you for you will never see things in a different light. To you, everyone is the enemy. Why don't we just blow ourselves up and get it over with, huh?

I know Dan, I voted for her because I don't believe in anyone who supports the war(s). I knew she wouldn't win, no doubt. I just would feel terrible about myself if I voted for someone without knowing their ties, and what they intend to do, based on what they have said. Sure Obama was the lesser of two evils, no shit, I confronted McCain in person and told him he was a victim of mind control and chased him down with a megaphone. I just know how this all works, it mirrors professional wrestling. Then in 8 years after everyone hates Obama they will install another Republican. Jeb Bush anyone? hah. Anyway I will keep my chin up, but after he announced that scum sucker Rahm Emmanuel as Chief of Staff it's kind of obvious where this administration is going. You guys are going to be pissed when Obama pardons Bush.
Here's a quote from Obama on the 4th at AIPAC.
"I will do everything in my power to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Everything in my power. . . . Everything."
"The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat," said Obama, "I will always keep the threat of military action on the table to defend our security and our ally, Israel. Do not be confused."
Don't worry Obama....I'm not.
It seems that Obama has already answered the question of whether he can be a more hardcore Israel hard-liner than George W. Bush - ‘yes he can’! |

And Ruby, in 4 years, once Obama has taken our country out of the war in Iraq, made peace with Iran, finally get Osama Bin Ladin, our Economy is back to where it used to be, and cut taxes on middle class families, you can bow out and see that you were wrong. This guys is the man for the job. You can also apologize to Tim as well because he supports Obama.

Bin Laden didn't blow up the projects. It was yo nigga; tell the truth, nigga. The FBI doesn't want him, why does Obama?
Nick, you like many Obama supporters can ONLY see the 'good' side. Obama has voted for the Patriot Act, for FISA, for the 'bailout' (caused by Democratic legislated deregulation), for helping Israel bomb Lebanon (causing many UN Resolution and human rights violations), for 'initiative' bombing in Pakistan, voted for unregulated nuclear proliferation of India, yet rails against Iran's program.
You won't go into details because you don't know any of them. Keep reading mainstream media, keep knowing what corporations want you to know, keep ignoring the rest. Way to be. |

You think I am some kind of a moron or something? You think I don't know all of that? Of course I fucking know that. You know why I support him? I support him in what he is GOING to do, not with what he has done. He's a new guy, and made some mistakes, and after learning more about this man, what he wants, and what he is going to do, I support him.
Why am I not going to get into details? Because I don't know anything? Well fuck you then. I am not going to because Ruby will never back down no matter what. That is why I barely post about Political Matters on these boards, because the people will never open up and there is no way anyone will change their minds on anything. So what is the use in debating, huh?
I was trying to do a positive post here, and now it's gone to shit, thank you. I'm leaving the thread I created. Say what you want about me, and what about Obama. To me, I believe I made the right decision, and that is all that matters to me. |

The best indicator of how someone will act is how they already have acted time and time again. Think what you want, but your optimism has to be admittedly naive considering the guy's voting record on all the things I mentioned before. Your argument that Obama is a "new guy" doesn't hold much water.
Don't bring up politics and expect no dissent. Especially round these parts.

Changing minds goes both ways. I'm not about to say one party is right or one party is wrong in this debate, but you can't wholly declare and dedicate yourself to one side and complain that the other side isn't changing their minds. |

theonion.com consistently has the funniest things i've ever read. i love that site.
as for obama, you have to look at it this way. yeah, he may have voted for those things, but it seems like, being new and being a senator, you have to toe the party line to a degree, especially if you have presidential ambitions. when steps into office, i don't the pressures from the democratic party head will weigh as heavily on him.
like arthen (or whoever, i can't bothered to scroll) said, you don't really know what he'll do until he's in. you can look at his past voting record, and that will tell you much, but not everything. |
