Called TR yesterday & I guess he was the in the middle of rehearsals as he asked if he could call me back in a few. When he called back he apologized & informed me that they had been working on Pink Floyd "Money" when I called and it was a little more complex of a song to learn than he had anticipated. Worthy of note, TR said that while learning the song he got a feeling of a real bluesy swagger to that song that he had never noticed just listening to it. I preceeded to tell him about the (Making of)Dark Side of the Moon DVD I have where Roger Waters talks about how he orginally conceived it as more of a blues song. RW actually plays it on the acoustic the way he original wrote it and it definitely had more of a blues feel to it. I thought that was pretty interesting that TR would pick up on that while learning the song.

I have to admit that I was a little shocked that DMB would be covering Pink Floyd and when I commented on that TR conveyed to me a list of perspective covers for the upcoming DMB tour and to me it read more like songs I would have expected on the D&F tour than on a DMB tour. There are some really kewl ones that I just wouldn't expect from DMB. Can't wait to update the new section of The TR Master Cover List as the new covers appear on this tour. Color me excited! I may actually have to collect DMB live recordings to compile them. hehe

Also like to take a vote. Would you rather see the covers that TR has done with Dave & DMB incorporated into the already existing list with notations about which project they were played with OR would you like a seperate list at the end. I could go either way on it. I was orginally thinking a seperate list but then it occurred to me that it might be better to have only one section of say, Led Zep songs as opposed to 2. Like I said, I could go either way on it and I was wondering what you guys would prefer for ease of looking up stuff. LMK

I think it would be most logical to include them all together and say whether it's TR3, TR solo, DMB, etc. That way, as you said, there would be one Led Zeppelin section. Also, covers that fit in more than one category (e.g., Hendrix Fire - TR, D&F) are only listed once.

I think it would be best to keep them together...and just make a note of whether it was TR, TR3, TR w/DM, etc...

FLOYD FLOYD FLOYD FLOYD FLOYD!!!!!

I would vote for a separate list.

Also, I have that DVD too Fluffy. It is a great one. I learned how to play Breathe, Time, and Brain Damage from that DVD.

Money was an awesome cover! Listening to the recording of the shows is getting me so pumped for this fridays show. I have to say I am shocked and happy that brought back Sly's "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)", just funky and it sounds like tim was raging up there and having fun.

OK Fluffy...I am about as much of a Floyd fan as I am a DMB/Timmy fan and I can only say that "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" would be completely and forever orgasmic to hear. After hearing Money at Starlake my appetite has been wet and I really want to hear Timmy break it down on these covers. I think Shine is good enough as an instrumental that everyone would have a part and would be a great midset slow down that would keep the crowd into the show. Not to mention this has some really kick ass sax parts that Roi could tear the roof down on. PLEASE PLEASE pass this along.

BTW...Wish You Were Here would be great too. It would be a great tune for Tim/Dave to shine on the acoustic, which I would love to see. (SPAC WOULD BE GREAT, SEEING AS I WILL BE THERE!!!)

Also I cannot see them doing Shine On right now. There are a LOT of keyboard parts in it, and without Peter or Butch it would feel wrong. However, a Comfortably Numb, Run Like Hell, or Hey You would be sweet.

. . . doing Arnold Layne would also be freaky to hear!

All I can say is listen to the Gilmour acoustic that I posted and you will probably change you mind on this. Imagine Timmy and Dave playing this same arangement. No keys needed.

No way to all of that.

They're wasting their time until they work out covers of "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire or "Low" by Flo Rida.

Just some Tim tear it up on stage in Detroit and out of nowhere a cover of Neil Young "Hey Hey My My" was playing. Unreal. Tim has such amazing tone and adds so much the music. Just a new different way to hear all of Dave's stuff. I still love the cover Sly's "Thank You." Just funky!!! Can't wait to see TR at Rothbury....and Indy....and Cinci....and Virginia Beach...then finally Alpine.

I have the DVD of Gilmour doing it. It is very impressive for how he does the first half of the song on just acoustic and effect pedals.

But as for dmb doing it, I just can't see it being done full band without a keyboardist. It just doesn't seem like it would feel right.

Yep, that was one of the MANY that TR mentioned were on the list of possible covers for the DMB TouR. I even saw a thread on a DMB message board requesting it. Of course it degenerated into everyone arguing about WHICH Peter Gabriel song SHOULD be covered. hehe

I thought of you when I read that they covered PG Pam. I think they have enough to perform an insanely amazing version of Biko. Carter's powerful drums, the sax and the violin could contribute to the vocal melodies, Tim thundering the rhythm, and Dave singing it home. One would think that would be an especially appropriate song given Dave's history with South Africa.

Hey Ben, yep, when I saw a PG song was on the set list, I thought of you too. Hey, we are big time PG fans, what can I say?

As for Biko, Steven is one of my hero's. Not a September goes by that I don't remember what they did to him! I wonder what his last thoughts were as they were beating him and if he was even alive in the back of that pick up truck for the long ride for "medical help."

That song is beyond passion for me. The beat itself stirs my emotions, reminds me how pathetic my life is compared to Steven's. The lyrics are powerful. "When I go to sleep at night I can only dream in red, the outside world is black and white with only one color dead."

He could have easily turned his back on all the problems, walked away and been a successful doctor, but he chose to take a stand. He gave his life trying to turn injustice into justice. I have been playing that song over and over again. I will always remember Steven, and if there is an after life, which I am not sure I believe in, he is one soul I would love to be in the presence of.

BTW, San Jacinto makes me think of Fluffy and Robin. Another emotional song. I will forever be grateful to PG for his songs of passion and inspiration that left their mark on my heart.

Going to top this given the "Burning down the house" cover. Hell yeah love me some Talking Heads. On that note, how bout some Earth, Wind, and Fire Long shot, but hell Carter and Rashawn would tear that shit a new one.
