With musical production capabilities turning into thousands of people at a computer in their homes, where do you feel the direction of music is headed? and on another note, feelings on releasing of albums staying corporate or becoming individual releases? other options? I just feel that the internet has ultimately eliminated the need for labels, turning them into simple marketing tools and jumbly contracts....that could be my love for the untainted music in the world coming through though.

I have to say, making money with music on the internet is a HARD thing. Most of the time when people get music off the net, it is free. I want to be a professional musician, and actually do it as a career, not a hobby. I also like albums. I think it has become an art form, not just a vessel to release music. You have the tracks mixed, and sometimes segued into each other, set in a specific way of listening for emotions and such you would feel that go in a specific order, with the artwork on the cover and back (and now with cds, you have booklets. You got so much more artwork and info you can add). It is so much better than downloaded audio. A downloaded version of Abbey Road just isn't the same without seeing the Beatles cross the street for the last time. It also isn't the same with playing Dark Side of the Moon without seeing the prism. Countless others as well.

Not communicating can hurt more than any word that can be said -

cds are obsolete. the music industry, as a whole, needs to adapt to emerging technologies and start or they will fail. they need to phase out cds and start focusing more on digital distribution. no one wants to pay 20 dollars for a fucking cd. illegal downloading, advancements in home recording, cheaper recording, ect., are all ways of saying "you are overcharging us and there were better ways to produce and get music."

death to false metal.

Most of the money musicians make comes from touring. Only a few musicians make relatively anything from their records. Production and recording and all that is good, but be diverse and create your own market and scene so to speak. If you can do house sound and all that you have that many more opportunities to work. I went to a clinic last year by a pretty heavy studio guy from la that works for fox now and I have to say that he pretty much said that you have to create your "own thing" so to speak because anyone can do it now. It's good in some ways because now musicians are back behind the wheel so to speak.
