pls go to this link if you are able to make calculator games: www.newgrounds.com, click Mature, click yeah, I'm over 18 (only if you are!), go to Dating Sims, and click on any one of the Frank series. cn someone make a calculator app or program game that is very, very similar to the Frank games without the 'mature' content? thx!

Hmmm...
You've got a crafty strategy, sir. First you revive a thread, dead for many years, then you request that one of us makes you a TI game. The only time I remember playing/seeing TI Calc games was in high school. I certainly hope your not some engineering grad student asking for someone to make you a calculator game sans "mature" content. Anyways, I digress. You're in higschool, right?
You've come barking up the wrong tree, buddy. Good luck securing your "immature" content elsewhere. |

it makes sense. he's asking us to go into an 18+ section of a site and make him a ti calculator game. the people who use ti calculators are math/science majors and high schoolers. if he's a math or science major of any kind, he'd be able to do this himself and would be at least 18. so, we know he's under 18. that puts him in high school or home school. he takes the "don't click here unless you promise you're 18. honor system!" warnings seriously, which indicates he is very naive. that naivety is demonstrated by believing anyone would do this for him.
ah, but. high school? i don't think so. a high schooler would probably just ignore the 18+ warning. no, the unwillingness to defy the internet's stern 18+ warning, and not wanting mature content, indicates something more than naivety: an overwrought moral compass. this can be traced to strict upbringing and/or religion. the kind that homeschooling parents administer. in addition, a dating sim? he probably lacks a decent social life. that, too points to homeschooling. he still desires it enough to covertly defy his parents, but the guilt is still strong enough where he can't do it himself.
conclusion: boing is under 18, homeschooled, and potentially the son (probably not daughter) of a religious fundamentalist. |

Best post ever, Dan.
By the way...I use a TI calculator every day, and I do not fit into any of those categories. |

hey!!!!!
uh, it looks like i have to explain this better.
i have a pervert (ugh!) in my family who is 34, and he always uses my computer whenever he visits. he showed me the 'frank' game and asked ME to write a calculator game out of it without the 'mature' content, since i'm the only person in my whole family who has a ti-84 graphing calc (and he wants to take my calc and use it). i was forced to come post here for help, so stop the stupid stuff.
by the way, i'm 36 and married to a lady. we have a boy. also, i am NOT a pervert, so doing this is against my conscience.
if you don't believe me, then too bad. hope this helps explaing stuff! |

my worldview does not allow for married 36 year olds who type "pls" "thx" and don't tell 34 year old perverts who want them to make dating sims, without mature content (for the 34 year old) to fuck off when presented with such an absurd request. |

The blue text and over use of "emoticons" are also not behavior associated with men over the age of 14.
Additionally, the whole thing sounds like someone describing a problem there "friend" has. Like, "My friend's been having weird dreams about having sex with dogs. What do you think it means?" There is no friend.

We printed solutions to Slippy for the TI-83 in our high school newspaper with screen shots. It was triumphant in that EVERY math teacher complained. AHAHA
By far one of the weirdest all-time threads.
Boing, find another board to solicit your weirdness, and I suggest keeping perverts away from your child, if it exists. |

i would also wonder what, exactly, makes this alleged 34 year old a pervert if he doesn't want mature content.
given that boing is not exactly peddling smut to a 34 year old, why would it go against his conscience? that is to say, why would writing a dating sim without the mature parts (mature parts being the only thing that people who believe in morals would possibly find distasteful,) be against his conscience? he's basically saying "i have a moral objection to dating games without mature content."
actually, what he's basically saying is "i am under 18, maybe homeschooled and with religious parents, not much of a social life, and i need someone to make a dating sim for me without the mature parts because i still feel guilty about it." |

As long as he truly doesn't believe he'll learn something from such a sim, I'm over it. |

Fine, if you want good typing with no color in the font, here.
One: I use emoticons for fun, and two: I am very BUSY, so typing "pls" instead of "please" and "thx" instead of thanks is much more fast for me. I use colored font since I can easily distinguish which post is mine.
You don't believe that I'm 36, married, and have a boy? Too bad, losers.

nice attitude. now i won't make your family member the mature content free dating sim.
just out of curiosity, why did you select this forum to make this request? it seems more suited for a tech forum, or the forums at newgrounds, if they have them. |

Can you guys make me a game about drugs and pandas with laptops who write screenplays but don't get anywhere so they have to work at restaurants as waiters and waitresses who are very nice to get a big tip. Oh, and if you can make it so I can drive a giant car shaped like a squirrel?
Thanks. |

his position is that the game is not for him. but let's be reasonable. if your life so busy that you have to eliminate the vowels from your words you type to save time, you need to slow the fuck down. |

haha, you were homeschooled.
may i ask why your parents homeschooled you? religious reasons? felt they could do a better job than trained teachers? couldn't afford private school? i have a pretty dim view of homeschooling (read: i think it's a shitty idea) and i'm just curious as to why your parents decided to do that. |

My mom IS a trained teacher, and if you think government funded public school's better, I'd like to know where in this country you live. When I look around at my fellow college-age compadres who went to public/private school, I'm unbelievably thankful my parents decided to homeschool me. |

The equation post was meant as a joke, since the comparison has so often been made between Dan and male genitalia. No real offense was intended.
Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of homeschoolers who fit the stereotype Dan describes. I've met plenty of kooks.
But I know more that have turned out to be perfectly "well-adjusted". They have plenty of friends, and excel in the workplace and college, etc. And by excel I mean far outperform their peers.
So spare me the mock curiosity and poorly veiled attempts at insulting my and my family's mental health, monetary status, etc. There's really no call for that. |

I think homeschooling is perfectly legit, as long as the person doing it is a trained teacher, as in the case of our friend Muskrat. They finally passed a law requiring a parent to have a teaching credential in order to homeschool here in CA. Different strokes. |

don't get your panties in a twist. i was actually curious and not insulting your family. so defensive!
no one's arguing that public schools blow. i went to one. it wasn't a terrible school in comparison to other public schools, but still.
you're mom's a certified teacher. good, she obviously did a good job. but not everyone's mom is a certified teacher, so you can't really use that as a defense of the practice at large; most people aren't certified teachers.
but there is the aspect of social interaction and development, and that's largely what makes me against homeschooling. many parents, including yours i'm guessing, sign their children up for activities that put them in social settings. boy scouts, karate, whatever. that's good, but the problem with it is a lot of times those activities are too transient. your there, you do you thing, interact a little, you leave. i really don't think it's the same as going to a school and having to interact with a wide variety of different people.
there was a joke about your mom in there somewhere, but i didn't really feel like working it out. |

Hey Guys,
Just thought I'd add - I homeschool my 12 year old, by her choice. She was homeschooled for a couple of years (1st and 2nd grade), went to public school for the rest of elementary school (loved it and was top of her class), hated middle school, and is happily homeschooling again. She reads far more than she ever could attending public school, and has the freedom to choose a lot of her own materials. The social element is really only valid if you're living on top of a mountain and come across people only once in a while. She sees friends, family and mentors every day.
Just thought I'd chime in. Dan, your thoughts are understood and respected. It took me a few years to really educate myself and process the information on homeschooling and education in general before I felt confident that homeschooling was a better alternative.
Also, I'm not a certified teacher, but I'm not convinced that a degree makes you smart, compassionate, understanding, or able to communicate. It certainly doesn't make you creative and connected with your students.
Okay - enough. You get the point. |

I might have turned out better if I was home schooled. School for me was just a nightmare. The social part was ALWAYS negative for me. Mocked, teased, betrayed, and destroyed mentally.
There 4 good things that EVER happened to me in public school. Meeting my friend Adam (one of the VERY few who didn't throw me into a ditch and leave me to die), and having 3 GREAT teachers who are friends to me now, Kathy - 6th Grade Teacher (lives up the street, got me to love Shakespeare and acting), McGuire - 8th Grade English Teacher (he taught more than English, I called his class Life Class, and some of the things he taught me I still use today), and Dandi Di (he is called that because that was his son's first words, and he was my computer art teacher, and during highschool, whenever I was having problems with depression or kids, he would let me come into his room at anytime, his room kept me sane many a days).
Other than those things, my public school experience was just horrible. |
