i has a sansa. it's pretty awesome. you don't need more than two gigs i only have like 4.5 gigs total, but honestly? i don't need every song i have with me at all times. i feel like a certain band or type of music, i just drag and drop shit into the sansa, and delete things i'm not currently listening to. |

I agree Dan. I have a bulky 40gig creative labs mp3 player with everything I have on it, but the 2gig is perfect for work and holds enough of what I'm into at any given moment. |

I bought the Zune for work...beautiful, except any type of equipment made by Echo shuts it off. Nothing like toking a bit, putting on some T-Model Ford or R.L. Burnside and cutting the grass of the rich all day. It may be my best friend.

To answer the subject question, I do! I LOVE my 80GB video model. I don't work out or jog with it obviously because they are a bit bulky, but it gets me through my workday as well as boring doctor's offices, family get togethers, etc. and I love having the entire Office UK and US series and the entire Curb Your Enthusiasm series on it too.
But, those Sansa things are pretty cool. My brother in law had one that he brought on our last cruise and I was pretty impressed with all that it did. Two gigs is just too little space for me though. |

I most likely will never get an iPod. when I play and listen to music is either in the car, playing a game, laying down, or going to sleep. The rest of the time, I am making music.
The only time an mp3 player would come in use is in the car. I wouldn't mind a simple 1 gig one just so I don't lug around my cds because they could get the broken, stolen, or just piling up in my car taking up space. If I would get one, it probably would be a cheap one, not an iPod.
What I think is really fucking stupid are iPhones. That's just super overkill. |

Yeah, I'll probably need to upgrade to the 160GB soon since I keep putting shows and movies on mine.

In the car, playing a game, laying down/going to sleep...all GREAT times to listen to an iPod!! That's cool man, they're just not for some people. Like I said, I use mine a lot not just for music but to watch movies and TV shows over lunch at work or in waiting rooms or whatever. Also wonderful for plane trips and just waiting around the airport. Mine has 4000+ songs on it which isn't my entire music collection, but it's nice to be able to take the equivalent of 350+ CDs with you everywhere you go.
I agree about the iPhone. I have never bought into these cell phones that do everything except brew coffee. Mine doesn't even have a camera built into it. I figure I have a cell phone and I have a digital camera...why do I need both in one?
The iPod Touch (basically a stripped down iPhone) looks cool, but the storage space is very limited. I think the new Nanos are cool though.

When I am laying down, going to sleep, or playing a game, the cds are right next tome, and I just have to reach, grab it, slip it in, and I got it. It would be pointless to use an iPod for that. Now again, I stated in the car is something where I might use one. But then again, I got a hell of a radio station I listen to, and I am proud that Madison has a local (not clear channel) radio station that does wtf it wants, and has a HUGE audience, and has people even dmb to come in and play and talk for an hour (called, live from studio m) that they record and play 2 of them every week.

I'm addicated to my 60GB video iPod. It's mostly full of video, but I also like being able to choose music by playlist, artist, and genre. I've been working on a "happy songs" playlist lately. (It's come in happy with the funerals I've had to attend lately.) I started with only about 30 songs, but then I got serious about finding more so now I'm up to more than 135! (Suggestions are welcome, by the way. When I get home from work, I'll see if I can figure out a way to post the contents of the Happy Songs playlist thus far. Maybe not though; you guys might give me crap about the list since most of the "music" is what people on this BOARD tend to refer to as garbage on a regular basis.)
Since I don't have US TV at all, my iPod is also the best way to watch my shows. (Except for Heroes, which iTunes doesn't carry anymore because NBC sucks, but that's not the subject here.)
I have a docking station connected to my TV so that I can watch the shows on my TV when I'm home, but I watch a lot of them on the tiny screen while riding the train.
I also listen to audiobooks on my iPod now, since I got tired of switching out CDs. I joined audible with an annual membership, so the books average out to less than $10 each which is WAAAY cheapter than what most books on CD go for.
I still haven't downloaded a movie, and I don't think I will anytime soon. I'll stick with Netflix (which I *can* get through my APO mailbox) since one of my favorite things about DVDs is all the special features. |

I have the 80 gig ipod and I have maybe a gig or two left on it. I think I'm going to upgrade to the 160 sometime next year when I find a jazz fan I can unload mine on. Still works perfectly and I took good care of it, but I just need more space. Of course the 3 seasons of the office on it take up some room. |

Now that's the best argument I've heard for a video ipod yet! |

I hear that. I have all 3 seasons of the US version and both seasons of the UK version on mine. As well as all 5 (soon to be 6) seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm. |

I just thought of something that would make me want to get an iPod video 160gig. Portable Monty Python, makes me want to have spam spam spam spam backed beans spam spam spam and spam. An albatross or two would chase that down nicely. |

I'm surprised how little space movies and seasons of shows actually take up. Each season of Curb Your Enthusiasm is about 2 gigs and each season of The Office US is like 3 or so gigs from what I remember. With DVD Decrypter and Videora you can rip any movie or TV show from DVD and put it on your iPod. I don't have any full movies yet but Spinal Tap is sitting on my desk waiting to be ripped and put on my iPod. |

Even though I get the joke/reference that reminded me that there have actually been a few lawsuits of people who damaged their hearing with iPods. That is why the newer models have a max volume that you can set (or parents can set) so you don't blow your head off. |

I personally have never thought that the iPod even gets that loud. I guess with those earbud things they give you it can get pretty loud since they fit right in your ear and block out a lot of outside noise. I prefer to use my studio headphones when I'm at home which are these humongous things and I usually have the iPod volume at least 50% with those on if not higher. And for videos I usually have it around 75% even with the buds. |

I only use studio headphones, since that's where the quality is. Plus I use them when I am recording. |
