Stone Church is long way from RCMH, but for my money TR on a small stage in an intimate setting, FANTABULOUS!!! Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed seeing TR in the beautiful setting that was RCMH as I have always wanted to experience that venue and I couldn't think of a more perfect way than a T&D show because the likelihood of TR playing that venue solo is prolly a pipe dream. LOL It's more likely that monkeys will fly outta my butt so I will take the experience but it only made me appreciate the Stone Church performance that much more.
The audience was the best audience we have had at the Stone Church, quiet and attentive. Sadly, this was not the case for Marcus' set which was a shame because he was also amazing tonite. His setlist looked like this:
Story of Now Black Pearl Burn It Down Barbie Standing Who U R Drug
The front of the house was quite attentive and seemed to be quite impressed with Marcus and his talent. Sadly the back of the room was very chatty and we were all afraid that it would be a "loud" crowd for TR as well, this was not the case.
TR took the stage and the room fell silent. It stayed silent for most of the set but towards the end there was a little chatter but still pretty quiet compared to the usual bar crowd. TR was on fire tonite with what I would call a mellower set that seemed to build as the set progressed. His setlist looked like this:
(phrase of the evening: OUCH! Careful with YOUR Axe Eugene)
Sphere Of Darkness Hug Ain't No Sunshine This Is The One Continue (Chat) To The Next Absorbing Really Fast Bugs ------------------------------ White House Denies Letting Go - Pocket(Scarab fast) Coco In The Wild Try A Little Harder Death Squad TV ------------------------------- Quick Closet Full Of Dickies Dissolution Smells So Sweet Soul Sac-Surprise -------------------------------- Stranger Revolution All Around Doom Ocean -------------------------------- Maybe If Time - Letter Barabajaka Saucer People Power
So the set ended with Ocean, none of the songs listed after that were played sad to say. I was really looking forward to The Letter and Barabajagal, both of which are FAVE songs from my past. The Letter is by The Box Tops(you know...my baby, she wrote me a letter) and the other is Donovan cover I have never heard TR play. Donovan's version featured Jeff Beck and Ron Wood, basically the line-up from the Jeff Beck albums Truth and Beck-ola. Very kewl, check out the original. Barabajagal is what I would call very funky, at least for Donovan.
Instead of those, we were treated to an encore from Marcus and TR together that started with a very spacey improv duet that eventually became Rheginos. The space part was so kewl. When I mentioned how kewl it was to Marcus and TR they both agreed it felt really good.
Beyond that, other corrections to the setlist are as follows:
Continue was played I think, but Chatterbox was not. He also skipped Scarab which he has listed as a back-up.
Other things to note on this setlist so as to avoid confusion:
To The Next is the new title for From This World which was originally called From This World To The Next. You may see it referred to either way on setlists. TR still hasn't nailed the title down.
Smells So Sweet is the NEW title for Drivin' Me Crazy. I was afraid people would be expecting a new song since they wouldn't recognize the title.
Ain't No Sunshine! YES, it's a cover of one of my FAVE songs. The original was by Bill Withers. When I asked TR about this one he said he used to do it with his band but has never really tackled it solo acoustic. Let me tell you, it was AMAZING!(like anyone here is surprised LOL)
So I guess thats about it, another great nite at The Stone Church. It has been great having Marcus along. He has been with us since RCMH and that has been great. Really looking forward to tomorrow nite with Marcus as well. Tonite was recorded with an HD camera and I think they had 2 cameras going so there should be a DVD available soon. I hooked him up with a soundboard patch so the audio on this should be SWEET! Thanx JJ & crew for recording the show and you will be happy to know he will be in attendance tomorrow nite as well. So you know, he captured both Marcus' set and TR's. Thanx to Paul, Chris, Andrew and the entire staff at The Stone Church for taking such great care of us as always. It's always a pleasure and we look forward to a return engagement. Fluffy signing off!! |

I was honored to get to sit in on the sound check to setup my camera. I picked the dead center about 8 feet away from Tim. He played "This is the one" during the sound check and I didn't know it was actually a song because it sounded really funny and spontaneous. I have never seen Marcus playing live before, I only saw his concert clips from stage6.com and heard a concert of his that I downloaded, but man.. he is an amazing guy... I knew it before, but.. seeing him there.. made all the difference... It was my 5th Tim show..they've all been amazing, but I probably had the most fun last night.... the previous shows were "amazing" and "breath taking" but last night was simply fun fun fun.. "This is the one" is a very funny song, i loved it.. my camera probably was shaking a lot during that song because I was laughing pretty hard... (how professional I am!) It was AWESOME to see Marcus playing with Tim at the encore..... they are amazing together... (maybe we would be able to see them playing together a couple more songs in the future???...) There were many new songs that I had not heard (even at the last show in Stone Hill). I was happy to hear Doom and Ocean at the end of the set. When Tim played Ocean last time here, he was jumping up and down... really fired up.. I was hoping to hear that song again, and I did!!! The crowd was great except a couple drunk girls who were waving a sausage or banana or something to Tim near Brian's camera (another camera, lots of thanks to you, Brian!)..when I saw those girls after the show, their eyes were rolling out of their skulls...almost passing out(i don't know if that expression makes any sense, but forgive me, English is not my 1ST language!!!). Other than that, last night's crowd was probably one of the best crowds I have ever seen in a small venue. (I am rambling too much here... sorry... too excited for 2 nights in a row of Tim shows and videotaping!!!)
I used Sony FX1 in HDV and sound patch from soundboard through RCA.. my company has Z1 with XLR, but all Z1s are out on the field for company's shooting.... my boss was very nice and understanding to let me take the camera for this (which is totally personal..)... I may get the tapes from Brian and I will edit as soon as possible to spread them out as well as ripping audio off the tape to make CDs.
Tons of thanks to John Semon II for all the help, Fluffy and his crew for being so kind and generous, and Andrew and Stone Church for letting me do whatever I wanted to do regarding shooting spots and setup, and Brian Lee for being there taping with me! And many, many thanks to Marcus and Tim for playing such great music in New England... I can't ever thank you enough....
see you guys in CT tonight!

I had a great time last night at my first ever Tim show. I'll be making a copy of my tapes and sending them to JJ/John hopefully next week. I'll probably make a sample clip of a song over the weekend and post it as well.
It was great meeting fluffy as well. Thanks again for letting my friend and I get in early to setup. I was hoping to stick around a bit after the show and meet Tim but my friend has early morning class and he wanted to leave which I found was a valid excuse. I'm sure i'll get other chances in the future tho. I talked to Marcus for a min before the show and he is the one of the nicest guys around...
Thanks again to the whole crew of people that made the show possible for a great time. |

Another mind blowing show put on by TR last night, and Marcus is no slouch either! Quickly, a little about me. I'd been to a couple T&D shows, including the recent UMASS show on 4/21, and this was my 4th TR solo show (3rd acoustic). My friends and I arrived in Newmarket early to get a good seat and we found ourselves sitting directly in front of Tim and right in front of the video camera mentioned earlier in this thread. It was a positively different experience being able to sit and enjoy the show versus standing near the back somewhere trying to block out the drunken chatter. We were really able to focus on and actively listen to the intricacies of Tim's playing, which really made the night very special for all of us.
Prior to the show, my only knowledge of Marcus Eaton came from the excellent videos on Stage6. I was anxious to see Marcus perform and he certainly didn't disappoint. It is unfortunate that the level of chatter during most of Marcus' set was louder than I would have liked, but the people around me sitting in front of the stage were very attentive so it could have been much worse. Marcus has a unique style of playing, using loops and delays, that was definitely a pleasure to listen to. It's good to know that there are musicians like Marcus out there that enjoy being creative with their music on stage and won't just settle for cookie-cutter type songs to appease the popular culture. Marcus should try to make regular stops here in New England as I feel there is an anxious audience here that would truly appreciate his work.
Now onto Tim's set. The set that was played was very chill and had a completely different feel than the set Tim played in NH last November. I honestly had never heard most of the songs played last night and it was great for me to hear these songs for the first time. Overall, I was very impressed with the crowd during Tim's laid back set. They seemed to be genuinely interested in Tim's playing and for the most part, were cherishing the talent the was being displayed in front of them. On a side note, my bald headed friend sitting next to me, known appropriately as The Manchild, had this weird fascination with shouting Dennis Kucinich's name at various points during the set. Although he IS a Kucinich supporter, I tried telling him that he should voice his opinion elsewhere and not while Tim was performing. His name is The Manchild for a reason folks and my attempts at harnessing his drunken energy seemed to go by the wayside, so I do apologize for his actions to anyone that was annoyed with his banter. Anyway, like I was saying, Tim's set was different than any set that I had previously heard him play live, as it was intimate and chill, and the setting and crowd really made the overall experience a memorable one. Tim switched gears a bit at the end playing Doom and If the Ocean and it was received well by the audience. Little did we all know, the the best was really yet to come.
Going into the evening, I was hoping that Tim and Marcus would join forces on stage and surely enough I got my wish. After the crazy intro, which produced smiles from both Tim and Marcus, they went right into the best version of Rheginos I've ever heard. I was amazed at how tight their playing was. It sounded as if the song was being played on a single "super" guitar and they harmonized perfectly. I certainly look forward to hearing this version again as it truly was an instant classic performance.
Some random notes: It was a pleasure to meet Fluffy after the show and shoot the shit about various TR topics. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman! Thanks to Tim for taking the time after the show to sign my T&D UMASS poster as well.
I also took some nice pictures and video clips during the show. So I hope you all enjoy them. I posted some of the pictures below and I'm hoping to upload the video clips to Youtube soon. I'll keep you posted on the vids.
And, if jjkim1028 and Fluffy could continue giving updates on the possible availability of the video/DVD for this show, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the good times and the good music. It was certainly a memorable night.

OK. YouTube sucks. I uploaded 3 video clips from the show last night to the Stage6 website. I'm completely new to this, but you should be able to access the videos here:

I only wish they were longer!
Hope you like!

Here is a song from the show for you viewing pleasure... I shot this video with a Canon HV20 in HDV mode. It's just camera audio but it sounds pretty good as I was right in front of the speakers.
The video is an SVCD and about 68 MB

WOW!! THANX for all the great reviews! Great to hear so many different perspectives on the same show. Really gives everyone a wider vision of the performance. Plus, it's fun to see what others remember that maybe I didn't. For instance, the banana thang, LOL. So this girl ran up to TR right as he was going back on for the encore and handed him this banana with cherries for eyes, an olive for a nose, all held together with those little swords you find stuck in fruit. It was hysterical. Apparently TR dedicated the encore to the little guy. I didn't really see him up close until after the gig up in the dressing room. Marcus got a pic of him so hopefully you will see it up close and personal. Otherwise I figure you will see it on the DVD of the show. As we were leaving we came down stairs to leave there were people who look scared by the little banana guy and there were banana peels all over the room. VERY WEIRD! People bringing bananas to bar? Noone ever could give me an explanation that suited me so I choose to chalk it up to the bizarre world of RnR. Don't believe me, see the last picture of the ones posted above, BANANA! LOL
Speaking of the pics, I thought it was funny that the pic of the front of the Stone Church doesn't reflect any of the stone. Let me assure you the church is stone as the name implies. It is very old and I guess now considered a historical location. Very beautiful place.
Thankfully I didn't notice the Dennis Kucinich yeller I guess. LOL Call me blissfully ignorant of that one. LOL
I'll say it again, what a great way to kick off this run of solo TouR dates!!! |

I have finished Macus' edit last night, and authored the DVD this morning. I am half way done with Tim's and should get it done by this weekend or so. There were lots of flickering going on both Brian's and my camera, and was very red. I color corrected both shows, but could do nothing about the flickering... sorry..
