OK...so it looks like TR has played 7 new songs so far in this new run of shows. There may be more...but I think the other "new titles" are just his random, inventive titles for the "delay jams" between changing guitars, etc.

1.) This Life To The Next
2.) Coco In The Wild
3.) The White House Denies
4.) Sparky
5.) Drivin Me Crazy
6.) Death Squad TV
7.) This Is The One

Has anyone heard any of these yet? Any ideas what they're like? Are they instrumentals or do they have lyrics?

Share, share, share...

Well, I heard Tim play some of these songs last night at the Recher.

He played (that I remember) "Coco In The Wild", "The White House Denies", "Drivin Me Crazy", and "Death Squad TV". All of the songs were sung...and all of the songs kicked ass. They are similar to "Ancestors", "Indoctrinate", and "The Truth".

I always thought that Tim should sing more...and all of these new songs are amazing.

Awesome news John, and thanks for the review of some of the new songs Gnome. If they are anything like Revolution All Around I'm exicted, I love that song...fuck yeah.

Steve Hackett: "I'm my own opening act, you see."
Tim (before "Faceoff"): "Peace, love....and SEX!"

the only thing in similarity there is is that they have lyrics.

but "This Is The One" does have a very "Ohio" feel to it most of the time.

You know, I disagree with "the only thing in similarity there is is that they have lyrics".

Tim's instrumental tracks take influences from a broad range of styles: jazz, new age, rock, blues, folk, etc. Therefore, listening through "Nomadic Wavelength" gives you quite a different feel of songs...they are all very, very unique.

However, generally speaking, Tim's lyrical songs are influenced very strongly by rock/blues. These songs never sound very new-agey or jazzy. I've never thought, wow that songs sounds like Enya or Louis Armstrong. They all seem to have a similar percussive, driving force behind them. I can't help but doing a mini head-bang to "Ancestors" or even "Indoctrinate"...the same with "Sinceritox".

Think about Robert Johnson...one of the greats. Most of his songs sound very similar. They are standard blues songs. Structurally, melodically, and harmonically they are somewhat alike. As an extreme example, listen the first 5 seconds of everyone of Robert Johnson's songs...

Tim's vocal range is quite limited. He sings pretty much all of his songs around that same raspy, baritone-type range. Add to it the fact that most of his songs (with lyrics) are bluesy rock songs...and voila!...you've got songs that sound similar.

And they all ROCK ASS!!!!

i was making the statement purely based on what i hear. i dont break down the style of guitar he is playing, the influences he drew from, the lyrics, etc.

if the lyrics are different and the fingering of the guitar is different, then the song is different to me.

so that is where i am coming from.
