Really GREAT show tonite! Very social show, lots of friends in attendance. Tsumi opened, so we got to spend another evening with them which is always alot of fun. Plus, we had a special guest, Melissa Ferrick played after Tsumi, she was absolutely amazing. I had seen her a number of TIMes before, even worked with her at 9:30 Club way long ago. I was running the 9:30 Sidestage, which was a smaller venue that hosted smaller acts that couldn't fill the regular 9:30. It was very intimate venue and I had a great TIMe for it's short existence. At any rate, MF played there one nite and being so small there were only usually 3 of us working. 1 door/security person, 1 manager and 1 bartender. Well that nite Seal played that night at the googleplex in DC and after his gig decided to come by to MF's show since he was a fan. We were a tad worried since we really didn't have any kind of security for something of that scale but it turned out to be very kewl and laid back. There were only about 20 people there(which because of the low overhead means everyone made money LOL) and it ended up being a very kewl evening and it led to MF always remembering me from that nite. We crossed paths a few TIMes since and then last year my friend Chris ended up TMing her and at that point she had just written a beautiful song for Chris Whitley. When Chris told her he knew Chris' tour manager they got to talking and realized it was Fluffy and that they both knew the same me. LOL So it was nice to see her and touch base and hang out this evening. Seems I have rambled and said very little about the show. I will leave that to the professionals who have promised to post reviews. I will supply the setlist:
Brightly Lit Up On The Inside Rheginos This Is The One(Brand New, written earlier today, 1st performance) Hug The Truth Che This Life To The Next Betrayal ------------------------------------- Flourescence Coco In the Wild White House Denies Strom - Sexual Predator Sparky ---------------------------------------- Loud Voices In A Hollow Head From Below The Threshold Hotel Vast Horizon Drivin Me Crazy Indoctrinate Busy Signal ------------------------------------------- Doom Death Squad TV If The Ocean OUT ------------------------------------------- Cold Sweat OR Hold On - Then have a sonic meltdown
Sadly, both tapers who were lined up fell thru so the show was not recorded. We did have one of the funnier load-ins in the history of rock n roll, we looked like The Monkees. The hotel is situated diagonally across the street from the venue and we opted to not load the van to cross the street. We just used one of the luggage carts from the hotel. There we are, the 3 of us, with our loaded luggage cart and guitars wheeling across the street in front of traffic. It was quite a sight. I got to witness just how funny it looked at the end when I was sitting at merch with Melissa and Ian and we turned around there was Rew wheeling the empty cart back over to load-out. Melissa saw it and immediately started cracking up. Said she wished she had a camera to get a picture of it. When Rew came thru the door she congratualated him and said it was "the most rock n roll thing" she had seen in a while. People who had waited around were laughing and giggling and I just said to them "What? This is how we roll!" |
