| I think it's a fucking sham. How many other scumbags has this planet seen even during Saddam's reign that made Saddam look like a saint. I don't condone Saddam's greed and malice towards his own people, but let's face it, this is a fucking stunt put together to create a spectacle and to give the government something to point at and say "Look what we did!" Yeah, destroyed another country, good job. |

| i don't have any objection to him hanging. that's what he should get. what i do object to, as hrw points out, is it being used as some sort of milestone for accomplishment. basically, they're killing him so republicans get some more votes. if you're going to kill him, kill him for the right reasons. here's what you do: hang him, and shut the fuck up. don't make it a spectacle. just get it over with. |

i dont like this at all jared. just because one OJ goes unpunished doesnt mean another scumbag doesnt deserve justice. i can see the catch 22 in what you are saying, sure.
as for the government and its prize award winning iraq war, let them have their cake. |

| So if they are hanging him because he gased the Kurds, what happens to Rumsfeld since he did personally supply Sadaam with those every same weapons? Will he be hung as well, I sure fucking hope so. HANG EM ALL! Start over! Push those bastards off the whitehouse roof. |

Pol Pot got house arrest.
I don't think killing Saddam's going to do anything for anyone, except incite more violence. Keep him locked up, but keep him alive.
I forget who said something like this (comedian or pundit, they are blurring into the same thing), but I like the idea of installing Saddam back into power, pulling out all American forces, and leaving the mess to him. |

everyone is missing a very important point: justice isn't fair.
whatever attributes and qualities you ascribe to "justice" isn't really matter. i would define justice as revenge made to appear civilized. yours may differ. whatever it is, fairness has nothing to do with it. it's not fair because justice is not served to all that deserve it. sometimes innocent people are jailed. sometimes murderers go unfree, their crimes unpunished. but that's not anyone's fault, really. it's only the nature of justice. justice cannot always be served when it needs to be, and as result, it occasionally fails people who need it. so what exactly is fair about justice? nothing. we only do as best we can.
so, you can sit here and say "well oj should have been found guilty" or "rumsfeld should be hung." but you're operating on the notion that justice is somehow fair. that notion is false. i would suggest that instead of complaining that rumsfeld walks free while hussein hands is a little silly. at least justice is served on one level. |

| excellent point dan. i just finished up my associates degree in criminal justice only to realize i want nothing to do with it. it is so ass backwards in SO MANY ways it just hurts me personally. so many things i do not agree and thus i do not want any part of it. it is definitly nice to be educated in some aspects of it now. |

It's awesome that Sadaams execution is on every tv show and newspaper but not a single one of the 665,000 iraqi civilians have been shown nor does the mass media speak of the 3,000 troops now killed.
Democracy, pfff my ass.
Rumsfeld on behalf of the United States corporate military sold the ILLEGAL weapons to Sadaam. Not to mention uncountable crimes against innocent people....wake up America, your bubble is about to pop. |

| There was a really great article about Saddam's trial on Zmag not too long ago. It was basically pointing at the fact that the trial was a sham. The thing is, that even people appointed by the US to judge and prosecute were resigning because of the way the trial happened. The whole idea was to have a trial which was a great big puppet show, and definitely not let the ties between Saddam and the US and our allies be known. |
