Very cool that you can post like that! Almost feels like a webcast....but it isn't Sending tons of "great playing" vibes! Really wish I had a chance to hear Matt too!
BTW Mike couldn't make it tonight but I am guessing you already know that. |

Holy Shit.
That was a show comparable to GOTN, imho. The setlist was incredible, Tim was so into it, and the audience was silent. You could just feel a real good vibe coming from everything there, it made for some incredible music. The audience was surprisingly small, but everyone there was real respectful of both acts.
My favorite song was the raga that he played, I believe it was just before Stream. 1 b2 3 #4 5 b6 7 Try that scale, all you musicians, and then imagine TR playing it. I really can't put much into words about that song.
My friend and I sat in the middle of the floor in front of him, meditating for like half the show. HAHAHAAHAHAHAhd wtf..?? It felt goood
Matt generously informed me that the show was taped, and so I expect it will be available online sometime.
Now I am quite inebbriated(sp?), and I need to go get more fraizzled. I will post more sober comments later.

As guitarisPIMP pointed out, it was a small crowd which turned out to be a blessing as the show was unbelieveably quiet. Matt, who has seen many shows, says because of that it may be the best show he has seen. He said he heard TR play notes that he didn't know were there before. Yes, it was THAT quiet. Good news is the show was recorded. I have the soundboard recordings and a friend of Rew's recorded with mics and someone else shot video. So it will definitely surface in some format for all to enjoy. If you would like a preview of the setlist here is what was printed in front of TR:
Collecting Unconsciousness Captain Goldfish Ohio Delicate Balance Betrayal Fallen Fallen Hidden Variable Indoctrinate Eye of Saturn ------------------------------------- Ancestors Scarab Strom Hands Full Stranger Levee or Rev? -------------------------------------- Dissolution At Times These Times Kundalini Apenstein --------------------------------------- Old Bones Doom (Rev?) Ocean ---------------------------------------- Hold On Sonic Hysteria
Special Thanx to Matt for saving the day with his DD-5 as TR's totally freaked out tonite. He let us borrow it for the rest of the run. We started noticing a click the other nite when TR would turn it on or off and Rew informed me that we should probably try and locate another one. I said "So after the TouR....." and Rew cut me off and said I think we may need it sooner than that. LOL I was gonna check on ebay last nite but there was no puter access so tonite when I arrived at the venue and found out they had internet I went to work loacating one on ebay. I found one that was closing in 1 hr and I won the auction and the guy who sold it was nice enuf to overnite it too us in Philly so we should have it in TIMe for the next show in Philly on the 15th. Matt also let us take his with us as a back-up just in case it doesn't arrive in TIMe or gets lost in the mail. Thanx to both Matt and Kurt for going above and beyond and keeping the show on the road.
The staff at The State Theatre were amazing and treated us so well. Wish we were treated that good every nite. Not sure everyone knows but when we aren't on TouR Rew has been an employee of The State Theatre so it was like a homecoming for him. It was funny, he said it was nice not to have to learn a bunch of new names at the venue as he already knew everyone. LOL
Well that's about it, day off tomorrow and I am really looking forward too it. Not because of the day off but because Rich Cahill(Dave's brother) is meeting me in Philly and giving me a tattoo. So for the next Philly show I will have a new tattoo. It's a tribute tattoo for Chris Whitley. The anniversary of his passing is this month so it seems like perfect timing to get and Rich is the perfect person to get it from as he tattooed Chris Whitley. That was actually how I first met him. He came to a show and Chris introduced him as his tattoo artist. At the TIMe I didn't know that Rich was related to the other Cahill in my life, Rubylith. I think it was a TR show at the Knitting Factory when they showed up together and I learned that Rich was the brother of Rubylith from the board. Small, small world or should I just say SYNCHRONICITY!! |

Wow, can't wait to hear this one! I love the quiet venues, that is what I miss about the Point in Bryn Mawr.
Good luck with the tattoo Fluffy. Look forward to seeing what you came up with for a design. |

Hey JohnSemon I gave the audio from this gig to Jared when he came down to Philly with Rich and Dave for my tattoo last nite. He has the audio for this show. I told him to see that you get a copy. |

Yeah this show was definitely the most intimate of any I have ever seen. "Delicate Balance," which I had never heard before, was simply the most breathtaking piece I have ever seen TR do. I really can't wait to hear the recording. My set was recorded too, so I hope to post it somewhere soon. I unfortunately broke a string during the set, so a few of my songs were played on an alternate guitar. Oh well. It was frustrating but it was still a fun night. Like Fluffy said, the personnel at the venue treated us like we were kings. I hope I can return there again soon. |

Hey Matt, I sent you an email (through your website) the other day about sending you a CD/demo. I thought I'd contact you here so you knew who I was...even though I'm not particularly active on the board...so I don't know how that would help.
Later... |

Thanks so much for posting these!! This was such an amazing night for me. Most quiet, attentive crowd I have ever seen at any show ever. The State Theatre was so hospitable and it was a weekend full of TR music for me. It was the first time I saw Delicate Balance, which really brought me to my knees.
It was funny to see the vid of that song and see Tim thanking me for the extra UNIT. haha |
