Tonite was a new venue for us and it was small but had a warm vibe. The crowd was a little loud. How loud depends on who you ask. LOL But a great show. Was what I refer to as a "covers" crowd and they really seemed to enjoy the show. Unusual for us, there were alot of girls in the audience and they didn't leave. They stuck around and were really into it. I hate to stereotype, but usually most girls are dragged to a TR show by a guitar playing boyfriend or come in a gaggle expecting Dave music and from my observation they don't stick around to long. Usually lose them sortly after Stream or someTIMes sooner. Tonite was not the case, they stuck around and thoroughly seemed to enjoy it. Anyway, prolly not the kind of review you want to hear so I will move on to the setlist:
Mental Empasse From Space Buffalo Shoulder Hug The Truth Betrayal Che Indoctrinate Ulterior Motive Showdown -------------------------- Sinceritox Ancestors Stream Revolution Axiom Hands Full Levee --------------------------- Space Is.... Dreaming Kundalini Clearlight Expanding Cosmic Constant ---------------------------- Doom Ocean Hold On ----------------------------- Cold Sweat
So we were hoping that James Brown would stop by to sit in on Cold Sweat since he was playing earlier in Bloomington the same nite as us. He never made, but TR did a scorching version without him. Changes to the setlist include Come Together after Buffalo Soldier. Funny, the audience tried to sing along on Come Together but they were never able to find just the right spot so it was just alot of folks randomly singing Come Together at the wrong spots during the song. It was cute. hehe Kudalini was not played, Ocean was switched with Hold On and Stream included the Zep medley we missed recording in Bowling Green. Tonite was recorded to minidisc by the soundman who should be sending me a copy of the show. He said he only missed the first few seconds of Mental Empasse when TR started the set. He didn't have to change minidiscs so it should be a complete show. Also Rob(DaRavyn) made the trek out and shot the show on video. So hopefully at some point we can get those synced up a kewl DVD.
A funny thing happened backstage after the show. During the encore TR threw chocolate bars out to the audience. After the show I got TR to the dressing room, made sure he was OK and went to check on merch. When I returned he told me the funniest thing happened while I was gone. Apparently someone slipped one of the aforementioned chocolate bars under the door with a sharpie rubberbanded to it to be autographed. TR jokingly wrote "Eat Me" on the back and slid it back under the door. I came back into the dressing room and literally while TR was telling me the story the chocolate bar came back under the door with with a sharpie and note rubberbanded around it. The note said "Come on please sign this". So TR signed it and wrote on the note "Look on the back" where TR had written "Eat Me". I wasn't sure they had seen what he had written. We wrapped the note and the sharpie back around the chocolate and slid it under the door. I never saw who did it. TR said it was one of the most unusual things he had seen concerning an autograph. I concurred and we laughed about it. Well thats about it, THANX to Aaron and his fine staff for taking such good care of us. We hope a return engagement.
PS Rew didn't lose a hat on this trip to Bloomington. YEAH!!!!

LOL, nice story to start my day off with a smile! Of course I thought of all kinds of things they could have written when they slipped it under the door the second time, LOL!
BTW, I love these long tours! Reading the reviews is getting to be like reading my morning newspaper. When the tour is over I will probably go through "review withdrawal" at least until the next tour begins. Hope someone who went to the show writes a review too!

jared, got the package yesterday. as for rob, fluffy knew about the situation and has a DAT plus other video from earlier this year. fluffy said there would be no way he would be taping if he wouldn't let go of what he has to him, or at least the DAT. so lets hope that is the case. |

The show was amazing, and the crowd was great. definatly sometimes of hard laughs (i.e. come together) not to mention tons of gorgeous women stickin around to listen to some good music, kinda like heaven.
I did get to tape the show, but just got back last night so I havent gotten a chance to take a look at that or the chicago show. It's hard tryin to work a full time jub just wto work long enough to leave for a few concerts. But i try to do it cause its my passion, its what I enjoy doing.
in reguards to Hopefuls comment about "Note: DaRayvn has shafted the boards before, let's expect more of the same" Sorry didnt mean to let the whole board down, work is life, I work so in the end I can see a fun show and years from now look back and say "damn, I saw alot of sweet shit in my day" I didnt shaft the board, I am just not timely, horrible trait I know but its true.
I did give Fluffy the original audio back from the shows last year and video and am bring him and TR copies on cd of the shows along with a package of the original video to hand off to J semon in Des Moines. The new video I will be hopefully getting to (At least the bloomington show) this week so I can send it out. It will not be synched though so that will be somebody elses job to do. |
