So I am really looking forward to tonite. Greg is stopping by and of course Mike and Houston are opening. Lots of TR's friends and family will be in attendance as well as Keith and PJK. Should be an awesome TIMe. Will try to post a review and setlist when I get back to the hotel tonite. |

OK, BEST SHOW OF THE TouR.....so far....
What a great nite. We had a fairly painless soundcheck then off to dinner with Mike Sokolowski, Houston Ross & Keith. Dinner was wonderful, but when (c)Rew got his dinner, which did not indicate that it had FISH in the recipe, he had an allergic reaction that usually leads to anaphalaxsis(sp?) because he is highly allergic to fish oil. Turns out that the gumbo uses fish stock for its base which was not on the menu. So after a small scare he ordered something different. Luckily he had only taken a few bites when he noticed the early warning signs. I was still worried that having swallowed bites that when it absorbed into his stomach we might still have a reaction so I was prepared to get him to a hospital if need be. Luckily there was no need. We finished dinner and proceeded upstairs to catch SOKO's set. SOKO's set was amazing! Mike was on fire and Houston has really found his voice. It was the first TIMe they had performed as a duo and with the crowd reaction I imagine it will happen again. The club told us they had never seen a crowd so drop-dead quiet for an opener. It was only a good sign of the evening to come. Mike and Houston did set that consisted of a few originals and bunch of covers that Houston sang the shit out of. If you have heard him on Soko Two, imagine 10 TIMes that. WOW! He really has found his voice.
After a brief intermission, TR took the stage and delivered an onslaught of brilliance and passion like I have never seen. It helped that the crowd was one of the quietest I have ever been in the presence of. I can't describe the electricity in that room. TR ripped thru 1 hr and 45 min before leaving the stage to a standing ovation. He returned for 1 blistering encore of Cold Sweat and the evening was tied up beautifully with a bow.
It was veritable who's who of C-ville talent: Greg Howard stopped by during dinner but unfortunately he couldn't stay as he was flying out early the next morning. Houston Ross, Mike SOKO Sokolowski, Corey Harris, Joe Lawler, Robert Jospe and a plethora of friends and family. What an exciting nite. I wasn't even let down that no impromptu jam took place. The evening didn't need it, it was absolutely beautiful the way it was.
TR's setlist:
Mutual Attraction of Heavenly Bodies Hug Time Has Told Me Che The Truth Betrayal Indoctrinate - Restricted Districts ------------------------------------ Vantage Point Hands Full Doom Ancestors Arroyo Hold On ------------------------------------- You Are My Sanities Into Infinity Jemez Rolling Waves Kundalini.....Blast Off At Times, These Times, Sometimes ------------------------------------- Stream - You Don't Know War Must End If the Ocean Had It's Way Revolution All Around ------------------------------------- All You Need Is Love - Boom -------------------------------------- Cold Sweat
TR said he felt it was the best show in quite a while. His perspective is always different from mine. LOL It was nice to see we were on the same page about this one. I was quite excited to finally meet Robert Jospe. I had heard so much about him over the years from TR that it was wonderful to put a face with the stories. What a great guy. He and TR joked about getting together and doing some workshops...whooa, can you imagine. LOL It was great seeing Houston again as well. Before tonite it had seemed like forever since I saw him last, but when I put my arms around him it was like I had just seen him yesterday. What an awesome dude. Also cheering up my evening were PJK, dirtysloth, Keith and Soko. Special Thanx to the first 3 for all making long trips to the show. Sorry I was so busy playiing social director for TR to spend much TIMe with you guys. C-ville is a hard town for me when I am with TR. Lots of friends and family. Still didn't get to meet TR's granddaughter but it was great to see Joseph as always. The dressing room after the show is what people imagine it's like every nite. LOL Lot's of folks hanging out laughing and smiling. That NEVER happens. The lots of people part, although there are almost always lots of laughs and smiles. hehe What a great nite. More later if I think of anything else. I am still on NATURAL HIGH!!
For all wondering, YES the show was recorded by us. I was able to monitor it as it was recording and if the DAT sounds as good as what I heard in the studio monitors it should be an awesome recording. We will have to transfer it from DAT to CD before we can circulate it. I was told it was a matrix mix and because the audience was so quiet you might not believe it. LOL |

Wow, that was fun. Many, many thanks to Tim, Fluffy, Tim and audience for making us feel so welcome. It was a delight to do and on a personal note, just a wonderful reunion of people.
Don't miss Tim on this tour -- he just keeps getting better and better. A true artist.

Man! Tim's Setlist looks great! So does the Soko one, "On the Matter of Coping" Live! Your set was recorded to, right Mike?
Wish I could've been there, it sounds like a magical night all around. |

This was my 10th TR show(haven't seen anyone else in the double digits), and it's hard to pick a favorite because every show is so different, but it's way up there on my list. Just an overall wonderful experience. You knew he was especially happy to be there. Finally got to meet PJK as Soko were doing a soundcheck and we took in the show from the 2nd row of chairs. I knew you had your hands full Fluffy, so no worries. It was still good to see ya for a little bit. For anyone ever considering making a drive to see a Soko performance, DO IT! It's a truly healing encounter. Maybe you can tell just by looking at the setlist, their show has a message to it, and these guys actually seem to live their message. "What an awesome dude." Yeah, that sums up Houston alright. He just emits good feelings. You could pass him on the street and suddenly feel better and have no idea why. His aura is that thick.
I want an Aura
So here's a little clip I took of If the Ocean Had It's Way. I didn't even think about my camera until then. I wish I had thought of it during Soko's set, but here ya go....

Grrrrr... I'm telling you, I was really close to going to this show. I know I really shouldn't have, and didn't want to spend that much on travel expenses. For a while I was like 51% pro just saying fuck it, you only live once, just do it, but it ended up being a bit too difficult to work out. Glad to hear that it was such an amazing night for everyone in attendance. Looks to have been great sets by both TR and Soko. Fluffy, you weren't the only one half-way hoping for a little C'Ville jam, but oh well. Pam, can't wait to hear your review. |

Yes that was an excellent show. many thanks to all. Kieth from N.O. if you're on this list email me. Ilost your address and have an aud copy waiting for you. I am going to try and get a friend to upload my copy on bt.etree.org in the near future for all to dl. I did some eq in SF 8 to bring down aud and raise tim. Like Fluffy said the aud was very respectful, but still, in a quite setting those levles jump like crazy, for a damnn good reason too, Tim was on fire peace george |

Audience Recording too. I have a copy of the DAT from this evening and it sounds great. I will track it out and post as a torrent on bt.etree for you fine TR folks.
Tim & Diane - Sorry to not have made it out for this one, but I sent a friend who makes great tapes. It's been too long since we've talked. I am no longer at Musictoday, now at the Dept of Forestry.
Take care and everyone please go out and support live music! |
