So, I'm looking to trek on down to Los Angeles for the 4/22 concert, and I'm trying to get information on decent/cheap places to stay for the night. Does anyone know the venue and the area around it well enough to recommend a close hotel? I'll probably end up resorting to expedia, but I thought I'd check in here first. |

Arthen, the problem with a big city like LA is, there is no such thing as a cheap hotel. Even the moderately priced hotels are dumps. I stayed in a semi-cheap hotel in LA near staples center, and I didn't get much sleep...shady neighborhood for sure. I'd offer my floor, but I'm an hour south of LA and that is the opposite direction for you. If you don't mind risking your life, the place I stayed was called guest home, or guestwood, or something like that. I think there is one on Sunset as well. |

Maybe I will get a hotel a little north of LA. Figure out where all the little suburbs are... |

I'll be at the one in Chico for sure, since the venue is literally a mile away from my house.
I may or may not go to the one in San Francisco, we'll see what happens with school, work, etc. I'd really love to though. |

I just remembered after my last post, you can go to your local bookstore and look through Lonely Planets guide to South Ca. Read through their reviews of hotels.Copy all the hotels in the area that look good and you should find something. I usually do really well with that. Tuscon was the only one of their guides that I didn't find very helpful. I still found a good hotel that way though. Plus you probably know this, you can usually find reviews from people online for the ones you're thinking of staying at. I like knowing if the floors are filthy and the bathrooms are grungy etc. Hope that helps, have fun! Peace, Robin |

I doubt we will stay in LA that nite. We tend to like to move thru LA at nite to avoid the traffic. We will prolly head to Santa Barbara that nite after the show, same thing we did last TIMe after the SJC show, drove to Santa Barbara to avoid driving thru LA in the dayTIMe. So ya know, in my experience, albiet very little, is that Santa Barbara is not much cheaper, at least downtown. Maybe you could find something like a Super8 or Comfort Inn on the edge of town and the price wouldn't be so bad. Good luck!
PS When we do stay in LA we stay at the Sunset Blvd Riot House across from the HOB. It's not cheap(but not terribly more expensive than anything else in LA) and it is legendary. It's actually The Hyatt House but it acquired it's name in the 70's heyday of Rock and Roll. It's the hotel Iggy and Keith Moon scaled the building. I think it's where the infamous Red Snapper story comes from as well. Hell it was even in Almost Famous. Kewl legendary place if you have to spend that kind of money at least make it memorable. Last TIMe we were there F. Mac was in the hotel as well and we kept seeing them going in and out of the hotel at about the same TIMes as us. |

When Jason (EnthuTIMsiast) came out to LA the first time, he stayed in a Youth Hostel in Santa Monica. (http://www.hilosangeles.org/) It was pretty nice, and cheap (~$25 per night) because you just get a bunk bed. There's a bus that will get you from the hostel to The Mint w/o a transfer too...
Kevin's offer sounds good too, though! |
