I wished I lived in the area!!! I've been to Virginia before, but never C'Ville. I hope to one day visit there as it is a very historical place to me as a music fan.
To Soko, I hope that your show is such a sucess that it leads to a tour! |

Here's hoping it will be taped! Man, sometimes living on the west coast is unfortunate. |

Here's what the site says:
Reuniting for their first performance in 8 years and in celebration of their second release, Two, pianist Michael Sokolowski and bassist/vocalist Houston Ross join forces with Hamiltons drummer Will Coles to weave a luxurious tapestry of grooves, melodies, colors and textures. Grammy award-winning engineer Bob Katz had this to say after mastering Two: "Goosebumps!
Have a great TIMe at the show Patrick. BTW, I am absolutely loving your CD! I will email you as soon as I get a chance, the next few weeks are going to be crazy for me. |

Thanks for bringing this to the top again! It should be an awesome performance and one that I deeply regret not being able to attend. Mike and Houston will be accompanied by Will Coles on Drums, Mark Maynard on Trombone and Bobby Read on Sax.
I know this will be recorded so as soon as I get a copy I will make sure its available to those of you who would like it.
Patrick, have a great TIMe tomorrow night. I think Soko will be on about 9:00. There is a wonderful singer who is going to open. |

From our perspective, it was pretty smokin' -- especially the second set, which built to a climax for the final two tunes. The first was a monitor mix nightmare, but audience members say the house mix was excellent and they didn't notice any problems. (To be honest, Houston and I wanted to disappear into the walls after what we thought was a post-Nigel Spinal Tap-esque embarrassement of a first set. We were drilled with feedback, fluctuating levels, and other distracting unpleasantries which really rattled us.) Second set was a different story altogether -- it felt "in the zone" from first to last notes.
We should have a multitracked board mix to circulate within the next couple of weeks. I'll either post it on Archive or send to a couple of people willing to spread it around.
Setlist:
I. 1. Storyteller 2. Half Sleep 3. Bamboo Cool 4. Body Home 5. Dark Beam of the Seine 6. On the Matter of Coping
II. 1. Voice/piano duets, Houston & Mike: The Weight, Isn't it a Pity, Amazing Grace, Knockin' on Heaven's Door 2. Energy Change 3. In November Sunlight 4. A Call for All Demons (Sun Ra)*
Houston Ross: bass, vocals Michael Sokolowski: keyboards, loops Will Coles: drums Bobby Read: soprano and tenor saxophones *Mark Maynard: trombone

I suppose one is really a "rockstar" when they have a Spinal Tap moment!
Set looks great, that duet medley looks especially impressive. Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties, but I look forward to downloading it nonetheless! Congrats and lets hope we get more live material from you guys sooner than later! |

We'd love to, Arthen. It's really a matter of logistics and costs. After hearing what came off the bandstand the other night, I wish we hadn't stopped playing 8 years ago. But, we can't look back and we have to be satisfied with what the Universe has in store for us. Hou and I are definitely going to start gigging in the area as a voice/piano duo, performing mostly covers. I think there's a market for that here, and there's low barrier to entry -- just find places that have a piano and a microphone. As for the full-blown Soko thing, we'll just have to see what happens. Our plan is to re-record In November Sunlight -- an album of great tunes that suffers from poor execution. We plan to do the whole thing again, in order, and call it "In November Sunlight, Again." While we would love to perform live again (the other night was a major high), we have to adopt a wait and see attitude. We'd need to hit the road (C-ville isn't the town for us) and we'd need to find a great drummer. Will is a fine player, but isn't exactly the right fit for us. Any great drummer with a strong groove, big ears, and doesn't overplay is free to email me. ; ) |

Thanks for the review Mike! I'm sure that show was amazing. I can't wait to hear the recording. The idea of re-recording In November Sunlight is very exciting. Tough to improve on perfection though Keep us all up to date on your endevours. Any pictures from the show? |

Very kind of you, Kev, but the reason we want to re-do it is because we're not satisfied with the way that album came off. It had some good feeling for sure, but it wasn't our best foot forward.
No pics that I'm aware of. I certainly don't remember any flashes.
Starting mixing last night. Will have something to share soon. |
