Does anyone use left hand picking on a regular basis? I find that this is easier when playing in a dropped tuning.

yeah it does. its mostly used in classical. its basically the opposite of a slide (with your finger). instead of moving to the left or right on the fret board, you move up and down. almost like strumming, but with your left hand.
