when george bush states "our decisions regarding the environment are based on science", I wonder where he and the administration are getting their info?? I guess environmental problems really are about more than just saving trees and baby seals. Huh, who would have guessed.

I seem to recall that our president discounted all the scientific evidence that was presented on this subject as biased though I don't think he actually used that term, given his "broad" vocabulary. It's really scary and very sad that our "leaders" have known about the consequences for so long and still continue to make the wrong choices. We are all connected and the loss of any habitat affects us all. Thanks for posting this, keep yourselves informed people!Peace, Robin

He's an oil man pretty much everyone in his administration has something to do with oil if not indirectly then directly. One of the first things he did after he got into office was make it so companies that run polluting companies, like the refineries and such now merely have to measure and report themselves how much they are polluting and then report it and even if the come in over the levels allowed they have nothing done to them. He absolutely doesn't care about the enviroment. It shouldn't be a shock to anyone, because for heavens sake even Condasleeza Rice has had an oil tanker named after her since she worked for Exxon.

People think I'm insane when I'm talking about how messed up the earth is getting and I stand outside waiting for a bus and my nose starts to burn from all the fumes from cars, and I live in a fairly small city comparitively. One that you can now see smog in pretty much all the time without really having to look to hard. Not to mention the governments weather modification chemicals they are spraying. Our way of life has screwed up the earth now prepare for consequences.

Well Zach take it from someone who is on the front lines of many of these issues for 6+ yrs now, you are not insane. I'm an environmental health specialist and study and work with many of these issues daily. I don't need a research article from a western medicine journal to tell me there are problems but people like legit source for such info. In fact today I'm going out on the lake to take my weekly samples of water to test for bluegreen algae cyanobacteria (red tide)on lake champlain. One of the problems listed in the article.

Blue green algae by itself is not harmful, but when it gets "stressed" it creates a toxin which is dangerous and deadly to both people and animals. This has been a big issue in vermont lakes and has drastically increased over the last 10 yrs. We are doing intensive studies to find out why. Everyone thinks pollution. Pollution in lakes generally comes from excess phosphorus. Thing is, there hasn't been an increase in phosphorus discharge for over TWENTY yrs. Ahh so thats not it. I recently went to an international symposium on blue green algae/cyanobacteria and discovered its a huge increasing problem worldwide. It's not really a big mystery or a complex puzzle.
