supposedly puting food on/in a plastic container in the microwave is supposed to be toxic also. paper, don't know what you're getting. glass is best.

Thanks for posting that. The number of toxins people are being subjected to these days is terrible. Everyone concerned about their health should be trying to get back to organic foods as much as possible. Also don't eat a lot of seafood as the level of PCB's in most fish now are so high that if a pregnant women eats a few servings of seafood a week will basically have a child that will not be able have it's brain develop fully. I don't get how no one cares that people are just pumping toxins into everything these days. From food to our air to everything else. This is something we should be undertaking to raise awareness of the poisins around today.

Thanks for posting that. I tell my clients who choose sodas that artificial sweeteners are neurotoxins. Ofetn they are hard pressed to want to give up the diet sodas. The whole weight loss industry brainwashes people to think sugar in it's natural form is bad.
And while in excess it is, just like anything else, artificial sweeteners are ten times worse. I'm glad it was caught for before the person died. Yikes! Peace, Robin

So for those who REALLY want to educate themselves about this killer please use the following source to investigate further. Also for those who believe the false press about it being safe, this site lays out the details of how they twist the facts to convince you that it is safe.

So I guess I am doomed as I have several cups of coffee each day with splenda! Guess I will have to go back to my old standard of sugar, after I finish my box of splenda packets. Actually, I doubt anything splenda could turn into would be worse for me than the poison I had with chemo.

Actually, I had heard all this about 3 years ago via a friend who worked for the same drug company I used to work at. Don't know how much is truth and how much is theory but I guess if you feel ill and are a drinker of diet soda that has been warmed at some point in its shelf life, you should switch to something else. I am not a big soda drinker anyway, my two food sins are coffee and alcohol, (wine and whiskey, not together, LOL) and I have no plans to give up either any time soon.

For me, I kind of live by my old college motto, if whatever the current health fear is doesn't get you, your hair dryer will.

also, aren't foods such as freedom fries and potato chips, that are fried and overheated, supposed to give you your much needed daily dose of formaldehyde?

Actually, not the case, my dad is on the cutting edge and knew about all of this quite a while ago and has done alot of research into the matter and he says that Splenda is OK and should not be lumped in with the others. Notice in the story Splenda is not mentioned. Apparently it is not aspartame related sweetner, it is derived some other way and my dad assures me Splenda is safer(for the TIMe being, who knows what they will discover in another 20 years about Splenda LOL)

I don't know if you read any of the links I posted but they delve into the other foods and particularly alcohol which also contain the same thing that is in the fake sweetners but apparently the difference is that the alcohol and tomatoes for instance have another substance that offsets the formaldehyde. See the links below for the particulars:

http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/abuse/methanol.html#fruit

http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/abuse/methanol.html#foods

The Monsanto Company and others tried for years to use those arguments to assure people aspartame was safe. These 2 links explain quite well how there are different types and why the stuff in fruits, veggies and alcohol are not as detrimental to our health as aspartame. PLEASE READ

Thanks Fluffy, I feel much better. I try not to ingest much Splenda either, or other processed foods. This planet is so polluted though that whatever you eat, you ingest some kind of toxin. Even the organic foods are exposed to the air and rain which is polluted.

My son was just telling me that up at State College (PSU) they have one of the worst readings of acid rain and air pollution in PA. How could that be I wondered. He told me it was from the air currents from the factories in Ohio! So even Happy Valley isn't immune! Damn that made me made as I love it up there!

I was talking to a friend about this the other day, and he told me an interesting story that I don't know whether it's true or not. Basically he said that the guy from the FDA that ended up approving the Nutrasweet sweetener, quit his job right after that and went to work for Pepsi where he gets paid a large salary for a job where he literally does nothing. I don't know if there's any truth to that story but it was interesting nonetheless.

I just bought some diet coke that is sweetened with Splenda, not aspartame! It's about time they did that! I still won't drink a lot of soda but at least now I can drink diet coke and not worry about ingesting aspartame.

BTW Fluffy, I never realized that Fresca is sweetened with Aspartame too!

supposedly puting food on/in a plastic container in the microwave is supposed to be toxic also. paper, don't know what you're getting. glass is best.

Claim: The artificial sweetener aspartame has been proved responsible for an epidemic of cancer, brain tumors, and multiple sclerosis.

Status: False.

I haven't checked out any of the other evidence but e-mails about old information are always false. Let's say this claim is true. That was 2001. The FDA would have required a recall by then. And reitterating a point, where's the lawsuits? If this was true and I haven't looked into it, it's most likely not true anymore just like hundreds of other FDA scares forwarded around. (and no i don't care what you think about snopes.com)

Still, not a viable solution to eating sweets. I don't think many people REALLY care about their health. No one should be eating ANYTHING with all this synthetic garbage in it. Anyone who tells you otherwise is probably treating their body like a toxic waste dump. Their are plenty of natural food products out there...enjoy them, and stop buying Little Debbie's from Wal-Mart (Mao-Mart).

the amount of crap i put in my body is staggering, as far as fat content and that sort of thing. but some shit i just steer clear of. i used to drink like 6 liters of mt. dew a week. i'm off that entirely now because that has a lot bad, bad things in it. i've never been a health person, but i'm off a lot of that sort of thing now. pretty much anything hostess makes is out. same with cookies. my girl and i do own baking. tastes better. also, as far as "organic food" is concerned, you know what i do? i grow my shit as much as i can. got a little garden out back. tomatos, peas, carrots, peppers. it just tastes better. and it's convenient. when i want a carrot, i go outside pick a carrot. done deal. take a potato or something from a store, then take a home grown potato. the store potato tastes like shit.

death to false metal.

you can thank Mr. DOnald Rumsfeld himself for Aspartame.

In 1985 Monsanto purchased G.D. Searle, the chemical company that held the patent to aspartame, the active ingredient in NutraSweet. Monsanto was apparently untroubled by aspartame's clouded past, including a 1980 FDA Board of Inquiry, comprised of three independent scientists, which confirmed that it "might induce brain tumors."

The FDA had actually banned aspartame based on this finding, only to have Searle Chairman Donald Rumsfeld (currently the Secretary of Defense) vow to "call in his markers," to get it approved.

On January 21, 1981, the day after Ronald Reagan's inauguration, Searle re-applied to the FDA for approval to use aspartame in food sweetener, and Reagan's new FDA commissioner, Arthur Hayes Hull, Jr., appointed a 5-person Scientific Commission to review the board of inquiry's decision.

It soon became clear that the panel would uphold the ban by a 3-2 decision, but Hull then installed a sixth member on the commission, and the vote became deadlocked. He then personally broke the tie in aspartame's favor. Hull later left the FDA under allegations of impropriety, served briefly as Provost at New York Medical College, and then took a position with Burston-Marsteller, the chief public relations firm for both Monsanto and GD Searle. Since that time he has never spoken publicly about aspartame.

Non-caffeinated tea is the way to go. Little or no sweetner, pref. honey. Loads of anti-oxidants in peppermint and green teas. Load 'em up!

It really is quite scary what has happened to food and beverage in the united states. Hell it's not like i could to go to England and find a fifth grader who is almost double my size and is shaving a full beard on a daily basis. People don't really seem to mind what they are eating or drinking anymore they just put it in their mouth because the commercial on tv said it's good regardless of the negative effects it has on their body. Some people are making a change, but when it comes to the mass populus there's a long way to go.

I'm glad to see someone who's life was so affected by what i guess you could call "corporate food" doing something to help others and get the message out to stop treating your body like a dumpster and tyr to start eliminating things like Aspartame.

My mom recently went on a diet and found that she was getting muscle spasms and we found research on it and Aspartame does have alarming side effects stated above. Please also be aware is is also under the name phenylalanine. Either way stay away from if you can.
