So, Jason seems the first to hollar that he got the album, and Id love for him to spill how much he loves it here  . Other people can join in when they get it (I know I wont until the end of April, but thats ok).

I'll be honest.. I had to work my other job tonight, so I didn't get to dedicate the time I'd like to have to the album. The time I did dedicate, however, I had some opinions that didn't make even me happy. I felt that on the first disc, at least the first three or so tracks, the guitar was mixed way too low, and the Pagan Underdogs were too hot. Sounds fine, I'd just prefer more guitar.
I'll also be honest again.... based on what I did hear, I'd take the show that was recorded in Huntsville that I have on my computer over the album. But again, I haven't listened to the album a whole heck of a lot, so take that into consideration. Things tend to grow on me, a la Chaos View.
The second disc, like I've mentioned elsewhere, ... I love Mercury Direct. Listening to it now.
Other than that, I'll have to spin it a few time to get a review going.
Some of the tracks have a sort of a flamenco feel. It's sort of surprising, really. And some of the guitar work is brilliant, but one almost wants to say "no surprise there" since it's TR, right? Still, it bears saying. |

There are some very bassy songs on this album... Pulse pops to mind (d2t8). It really surprises me, actually, how bassy the album is. Maybe I should pop it into the computer and listen through those speakers (which would lose a lot of the bass).. that'd probably pull the vocals out more.
A lot of the vocals, unlike the live show where I heard many of the songs first, are distorted somehow, through effects and whatnot. It's cool if that's how TIM wants it, but I love the songs live. |

I havent listened to it fully enough to give a full review, but Im liking what I hear. To be completely honest, disc 1 seems old (not in a negative sense) to me already, since the songs have been played for a few years.
The ones I didnt know are quite pretty. I like Alpha Waves better than ... Love You, though, since it sounds like Entity pt 2 .
The old songs seem to be played just like I remember them live, so theyre faithful to those renditions. Torch, however, is different. I guess since that song got kind of thrown on the backburner after a few tours, it was worked on away from live audiences. On the album theres a string section thats added that i dont remember, plus a small reprise of the acoustic part before the final electric part that i dont remember as well. they add to the song, so i cant complain
Disc 2 is all new to me (though admittedly ive heard parts of it once in rough form on the road). I was quite surprised, since I thought it would be Petroglyph like. Its in the same electric experimental vein as said album, but a lot more polished, and a lot more... focused, I guess is the word. I think Sometimes Love Sighs is beautiful.
I'll probably throw in other thoughts later on. Hopefully everyone has the chance to pick this album up when they can |

I think I have to share my thoughts with Erich, that I've heard most of disc 1 through live stuff, but it's great to have perfectly mixed versions. The two new acoustic songs are great. Does anyone else think the sound on the acoustic tunes is somehow different... like it doesn't sound the way Nomadic Wavelength sounds, but rather like an old classical guitar cd. I like the strings on Torch, and the other little things thrown in, like the gong, train, violin, etc.
Disc 2 is great. I'm really surprised that it is treated like a bonus disc, and that both cds are only 14.99. My favorite tracks are Mercury Direct, and Angel with a Broken Wing. I think you can really hear the influence of Nine Inch Nails on Mercury, and Aphex Twin on Angel. |

Since I am fairly new to TIM's music as far as seeing him live,it's all still kind of fresh to me. I'm not able to articulate the way many on this board do, about the technical aspects. I love TIM's music for the way it makes me feel, and how multi-faceted I think his talent/genius is. When he plays it's jaw dropping amnazing and he's fully present.
This album I loved as soon as I put it on. Itwas nice that I'd heard some of the songs at the show and didn't know the names of all. I really like the first track "from this world", and"Torch of uncertainty" is probably my second fave on this disc though the first three songs fit really really well together."This is how much I love you" made me cry it's so beautiful. Second disc was amazing too, and I need to give it a listen fully again because I was really tired yesterday after staying up and visiting with Fluffy till the wee hours.
I liked all of that disc with "Mercury direct" and "Angel with a broken wing" as stand outs right away. Sometimes love sighs is another beautiful track. All in all, I really like the flow of both discs. SomeTIMes an album feels chunky to me the way the tracks are layed out. I don't feel that from any of TIM's albums but this one somehow really works. It's easily one that I'll listen to again and again, and for a long TIMe. I would agree that it's kind of polished but in a really good way. Peace, Robin

yeah, great review Robin! I never remember many of the song titles either, but like you, I just love his concerts! That is what matters anyway! As long as I live I will never forget his concert at the Point in Bryn Mawr PA. That one was the most moving experience for me.
Glad you enjoyed it! Were you able to take your son, or was he too young for it? (don't remember if it was 21+ or not) |

| I'm glad you liked the review. No Pam, I didn't take my son though he likes TIM's music a lot. He's thirteen and yes, it was a 21+ show. I had just recently finished(and passed) my Anatomy /physiology class, so I really just needed a night to be free. I was being persueded to come up to San Francisco, and it really was/is hard for me not to just go, I'm trying not to think about it today.Too tempting. I still have to pass my certification exams that are in less than two weeks. Next TIMe I'm there. Peace, Robin |

Yah, I immediately had Angel With a Broken Wing and Sometimes Love Sighs playing on repeat quite a bit. I have to admit, I prefer Tim's live Plastic Man, he played it (and whole set for that matter) acoustic in Brooklyn, and he plays some pretty sexy chords. Great to finally get an album version of Torch of Uncertainty as well, up till now I had only one live version, which was awesome (over 18 minutes), but he'd been kicking that one around for a while. And of course Alpha Wave, is another little gem in Tim's mine of acoustic goodies. Short but sweet; sounds a lot like background music to an early 70's anti-drug documentary or something. . And Dreaming and Indoctrinate have been faves of mine for a while already as well...more Tim vox! My only beef on the whole might be the chorus for Uncover the Reason, it just sounds a little...eh...cheesy I guess; though this can be very easily overlooked, as the rest of the album fucking wails.
Let's get Tim up for the Noble Peace Prize...that'll wake 'em up.
I must admit, I am extraordinarily excited about Tim's upcoming acoustic album, after the show he put on for us, I am dying to hear which of the tracks he played on 4/29 will be used. He did one track flamenco style, in the vein of Congo, which the drum machine, and it was just fucking spectacular...Che and Vantage Point will be welcome additions as well. Big time. Out with it! |

Overall, I think the album(s) are great! I love the "spanish" influence on some of the songs. Also, the acoustic version of Indoctrinate is awesome!
I'm working on my 5th listen so far, and I keep liking it more and more (if I didn't already like it). |

I love the two discs. I've been listening to them non-stop since I got it at the Marysville concert. The studio versions of our live favorites: Industrial, Torch, Dreaming, Trib, etc, all turned out great. I love that raw sound he has on the recording of Indoctrinate. It's like your sitting in the room with him.
Underdogs is amazing as well. I love Mercury and Don't Know. As far as I'm concerned it's the best album I'll buy in 2005. |

| Oh yes, I agree with you all the way. Torch is probably my favorite of the 2 discs, and of course Mercury and Alpha Wave are right up there. I picked the cd's up at the 7/11/05 show, and have been listening to them so much... I love 'em.. Oh ya, Sometimes love sighs is amazing also |

agree, this was one of the songs that first caught my ear when i first got this. great stuff, and great to hear live as well
