STS9 is kind of a jam band, but not the typical jam band that focuses on individuals and solos, but more on the actual sound of the song. Some songs are atmospherics, all are instrumental, and most have some type of techno/jungle/fucked up rythmic bend to them.
For a high-energy person like me, it's great when I just wanna groove or kind of use as background music if I wanna get something done.
