Queen is reforming and is planning a European tour next year with former Bad Company and Free lead singer Paul Rodgers. According to Queen's official Web site, the shows will feature both Queen and Rodgers material.
May said the last two or three weeks have been spent discussing venues as well as material both Queen and Rodgers may approach in concert. "Suddenly the Queen Phoenix is rising from the again from the ashes, and will take precedence over everything in our lives," he added.
Queen has not toured since the death of lead singer Freddie Mercury in November 1991. In the spring of 1992, the surviving members staged a star-studded tribute concert at London's Wembley Stadium for the Mercury Phoenix Trust, an AIDS-related charity.
The group's last studio album was 1991's "Innuendo" but May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon reunited to release 1995's "Made in Heaven," which featured vocals Mercury recorded prior to his death.
Queen returned to further notoriety with the recent musical "We Will Rock You," which is playing at Las Vegas' Paris Hotel.

| I just picked up "Queen on Fire" live at the Bowl from 1982, and it's amazing. I don't know how they plan on working Paul Rodgers into some of those songs. |

| I have to agree with you on this Erich. I am a huge Queen fan, Bad Company fan, Paul Rodgers solo fan, BUT much as I love PR's voice, it is not the kind of voice I can even imagine singing Queen songs. I am anxious to hear the collaboration since I am a huge fan of both but a new SUPERGROUP would be better suited to a new name I think. They can still do songs from there respective bands BUT it will NOT be Queen with PR singing. Of course thats just my opinion, I could be wrong! |

If it was a new band with new and old material that would be on thing. But parading it around as a new "Queen" is indeed. I definitely agree with you on those points Fluffy.
Everyone I've talked about this with has groaned at the thought of Paul Rodgers singing songs that Freddy Mercury sang. |

As you know Kev, I would be the last one to crucify you on your personal opinion about Queen. I am wondering though what Queen you have heard. I would agree that songs like Bohemian Rhapsody and We Are the Champions have an air of stage production to them, BUT songs like Sheer Heart Attack(a true rocker if ever there was one), Fat Bottomed Girls, Another One Bites the Dust, Under Pressure(with David Bowie)and You're My Best Friend are more like standard rock/pop songs. I am only assuming here, but maybe you just haven't heard the right Queen. If you only heard the BR or WatC and thought acckkk!, maybe you haven't experienced Queen's other material. Maybe you have and you think it all sounds like that. I will be interested to see what you answer to this. Please don't judge Queen on those 2 songs, but yes you are correct those songs wreak of broadway shows and if you aren't a fan of show tunes I could see why you might not want to delve much further into their catalog. I think you are selling yourself short though because Brian May is an amazing guitar player, just ask TR, and Queen is an amazing ROCK band. The live killers CD might be a good place for you to start to get a broader view of thier catalog. My personal faves are Sheer Heart Attack, Jazz, The Game. Queen and Queen II are pretty amazing as well. Actually everything up to The Game is pretty amazing. IMHO after that they got a bit to dancy and poppy even for me. LOL
just curious Kev, Do you think We Will Rock You sounds broadway-ish? Maybe what we think of broadway-ish is different, that could also be an answer. |

Queen was my favorite rock band when I was 12-13 and I still love their stuff...awesome, vivid songs, variety of styles, kick ass guitar and an all-time great singer/performer. It's hard to believe the same band recorded Stone Cold Crazy, Under Pressure, Bicycle Race, Killer Queen, Somebody to Love and Bohemian Rhapsody. Truly one of the most prolific bands ever.
When MTV had the Freddie Mercury tribute at Wembley I realized how powerful his voice really was...nobody can sing those songs the way they were intended to be heard, especially W. Axl Rose. The fact that Freddie had the range to sing all the songs I mentioned above boggles my mind.

I agree with you about that, many have paid tribute with a cover of Queen and it pains me to say this, but the only person who has ever come close to capturing it is George Michael. I remember seeing him at the Wembley affair and thinking "Maybe Queen could reform with him singing." He actually did FM justice. I appreciate everyone else's attempts and I realize that not everyone who covers Queen is trying to be Freddie Mercury but I think George Michael has the voice to do it moreso than anyone else. Freddie Mercury was definitely a one-of-a-kind performer and singer.
For a fine example of Brian May's guitar virtuosity outside of Queen I highly recommend(if you have a vinyl turntable)checking out his solo mini-lp Star Fleet Project. The highlight, "Bluesbreaker". |

| Queen is still one of my top 5 favorite bands of all time, and part of me is psyched to hear what they sound like now, but part of me thinks no... this can NOT go well... I don't see how anyone else can successfully pull off singing in his place. I heard a remake of We Will Rock You, I think it was on the DVD of A Knight's Tale, and it SUCKED. Also there was that European Pepsi commercial with Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Pink. Is there no respect for classic rock anymore?! Hopefully this new tour will push alot of the songs in which Roger or Brian were the primary vocalists (like Sleeping on the Sidewalk, I'm in Love With My Car, '39, etc.). |

Actually now that I think of it, the pepsi commercial was We Will Rock You, but the remake on the DVD was of We Are The Champions. And it really sucked. Sucked so much I couldn't even remember what song it was.  |

| OK Fluffy, here we go... You are right that I haven't really delved deep into their catalogue. The cd that I consistantly hear his disc one of their greatest hits. I'm not really familiar with the song titles so I'm not sure which ones are which, but I'm sticking with my belief that a lot of what I've heard sounds too show toonish for my liking, and I'm just not a fan of Mercury's voice. I'm definatley not saying that they suck or anything... I'll admit they are talented, I just really don't care for what I've heard. |

Good enuf for me! If you don't like the guys voice it is highly unlikely you will like much of their stuff. Who knows, maybe you will be a big fan of Queen machII as PR is a monster singer. LOL
Anyway, please try and give the song "Sheer Heart Attack" a listen just so you know they can so something that isn't show toon like. lol It doesn't have to change your mind but at least you will witness that they are capable of more. Thanx for answering.

I do know "they" (with freddie gone, john deacon alone has had the good grace - and taste - to lay the band to rest. if only they had a fraction of his wisdom) did a FUCKING FUCKING SHITE performance at the recent farce that was the british music hall of fame.
god i used to have such a lot of time for that lot - i still have for their 70's stuff - but words cannot begin to describe how musically, creatively and spiritually bankrupt messrs taylor and may have become with their recurring witless attempts to keep the flame alive
few things in the rock pantheon get me more wound up than this - the desecration of a once great band by two of its members who should know far, far better......
its like pissing on freddie's tomb....
