Some albums I am considering buying are,
$12 Stick Figures (newly remixed and remastered)
$12 Lift
$12 Sol
$12 Water on the Moon
$10 Code Magenta (featuring Dawn Thompson and Leroi Moore)
$10 Sticks and Stones, a collection of Spontaneous Improvisations
(duos with Tim Reynolds)
of all these albums, which one has Tim Reynolds playing his fastest/most feriously/ferociously? That would be the cd album for me,
The Tim albums I have are
Puke Matrix
Gossip of Neurons,
Stream,
Nomadic Wavelength
See Into Your Soul
Shifting Currents (TR3)
My favorite album of TIM's is Gossip of the Neurons, mostly because of Kudiani Bonfire and Big Blast of Hot Air, I like these songs because he plays fast and with power. Those are the times when I am most in awe of his skill. I've listened to his Chaos View & Puke Matrix material, and even have the Fox Theatre DVD, but I just don't seem to dig that style as much. I don't mind the thoughtful or spacy type songs too much, in fact, it's great when I'm studying or in a really mellow mood, but I think I most identify with strongs like Stream and Kudiani Bonfire, so I'm looking for that type of music most. |

Have you checked out his life set at all? He's got some songs not released on CD that are pretty good, like 'Doom'. Also the songs you know and love sound very different each time he plays them. I have like 4 different versions of Big Blast of Hot Air and I they are all cimpletely different.
I'm not familiar with any of the title syou mentioned thinking abotu buying except for sticks and sotnes which I own. Don't buy this cd expecting anything too wild. It's very very mellow. |

There isn't really an album of material where he plays like that. I would suggest downloading a live version of "Doom" from archive.org.
You could always download live versions of those songs, and then just make a mix album.
Most of those albums mentioned are either Jazz Improv/Jazz/Ambient/Ambient Improv.

I've never heard this "Doom" song, but I'm totally stoked about it, I just eat up Tim's faster stuff! Thanks also for turning me on to archive.org. Thats a GREAT SITE!
IF ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY TIM RECCOMENDATIONS DON'T HESITATE TO REPLY, I LIKE HEARING FROM ALL THE REYNOLDS FANS

| RainDragon, I'm sure you already know this... but all of the cds you mentioned are Greg Howard albums. Of those... Tim guests on 2 or maybe 3 tracks on "Sol" and plays electric guitar on all of the Sticks and Stones cd, although be warned, it is quite avant guard sounding. TR does not appear on any other of the cds you mentioned. Even though you said you are looking for something with TR playing fast, I'd highly recommend "Water on the Moon" It is one hour of Greg Howard straight improvising. Kind of like Gossip of the Neurons, but without the obvious breaks, and distinct songs... Greg's is just one continuous set, and it is amazing that he can play like that for an hour straight. Then I would get "Sol" because it was purposely made to have a Spanish feel about it, so some of the tracks where TR plays have a flamenco style about them, and his playing on those tracks is definitely "fast". Hope that helps, and yes, it is awesome to see someone interested in such great music. Please stay around. |
