I'm having some trouble accessing a portion of my hard drive and before I take this to a store to get fixed, I figured I should try and do it myself.
Are there any good websites/forums that anyone knows of for good tech support? |

What exactly do you mean by a "portion". Is there a partition you can't access? Is it an NTFS file permissions issue?
Have you tried running scan disk, defrag, etc.? Probably not going to solve your problems, but it's worth a shot.
Warranty? Manufacturer? Hard drive purchased separately or OEM? |

CPP has the idea. I reinstalled windows and a folder in my computer had private permissions on it because i shared a lot of stuff on a network before. Once I reinstalled windows it won't let me in because I don't have permission to that folder.
So now I'm trying to figure out what the hell to do |

XP Pro by any chance? I had this exact same problem when I tried to install XP Service Pack 2, and it failed. I had to reinstall windows, but any folders that had "Administrator" as the only person with permissions, I was unable to access. Assuming you're running XP, I was able to get back *some* of my files by doing the following (not for the faint of heart):
1.) Reboot with your XP CD in the drive and do an install from the CD.
2.) When it prompts you for anything during the installation (installation is basically paused), hit Shift + F10 I believe. This will bring up a DOS window.
3.) You should have unrestricted access to any files at this point.
4.) If you're proficient in DOS, copy them all to another folder that you normally have permissions to and you're set.
5.) If you're not proficient in DOS, try running taskmgr.exe. From there, do new task and run iexplore.exe. Then type in C:\ in the address bar (told you this was bizarre).
6.) Once there, you should have unrestricted access and you can "move" your files to another folder.
7.) Cancel the install and reboot.
This was a miracle solution for me and I find it to be a HUGE security flaw in XP systems that need serious security. If it's only a folder permissions issue, this should work. If you have permissions on specific files, you might be completely screwed.
