I'm going to buy my first electric guitar and gear for it soon, and I have a few questions that I'd enjoy any input on. First, I plan to use something like a Voodoo Lab Super Fuzz or Yamaha DG Stomp to provide outside distortion, and as such, can anyone suggestion one or the other (or both)? Also, what would be a good model/brand of amplifier to purchase? Any other comments to suggestions or reminders are welcome, I know they'd be helpful. I'm looking moreso for practice stuff than performance, so I need not have a huge stack to sit next to. |

I'm looking the Marshall way in amps, but I wondering what wattage, etc. There's a variety of smaller (yet powerful, as the ads all say) Marshalls to choose from. I've never tried to get a setup like this, so I'm all ears. |

I have a Fender Stage 112SE that I bought when I was 12. I am now 22 and the amp is still going strong! It's powerful and I never have had to turn it up above 3. Check out the STAGE XXX series. Your best bet is just trying every amp you can out. Good luck!
Also the Fender Stage series has a great distortion channel so you might even save a bit instead of buying the effects box as well. |

fenders are real nice too. My brother plays his guitar through a fender at church at its a nice sound, great volume, and freat control over everything. You can actually tell the difference when you turn the knobs :P |

Depending on the sound you're looking for, different distortion pedals are out there. The DG Stomp is definitely my favorite for a "some of everything" kind of distortion/amp modeler. I use a Boss Metal Zone for most things, and I love it. If you can afford the DG Stomp though, and want more than just balls out metal, go for it.
As far as amps, Marshall is the way to go. And their smaller combos are GREAT for the price.
Here are some links to some Marshall amps at musiciansfriend.com:

Gibson guitars are my favorites, along with ESP/LTD. My next purchase will be an LTD EX-400:

If you post a price range for all of your equipment, amps, guitars, pedals, I can be of more help. But these links will hopefully get you off to a good start.
