yay/nay?

Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed, when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."

check out her album homogenic. i bought it a few days ago, and it's one of those few cds where you dont end up skipping any of the songs.

big time "yay" for me. I'd even place her in my top 10. Funny thing is, I never even listened to hear a year ago, but she played a very rare show in Hollywood over this last summer that my Ex took me to, and I instantly became a fan. I really like her use of unique beats in her songs. On her last cd Vespertine, she used this electronica duo by the name of Matmos to make her beats...they play the most unique things to get sounds you've ever heard. For example, they have one cd of theirs that is completely composed of surgical sounds. I would HIGHLY suggest that anyone pick up her Royal Opera House DVD to see what an amazing show she puts on. The concert is her, Matmos, a harpest, a group of Inuit singers, and an orchestra.

I second that... great disc, not to mention it has one of the most lyrically brutal breakup songs I've ever heard called "5 years". I could really write forever about how great Bjork is, but I'll stop here for now.

For a little more info on what I mean by this:
quote:

here is an excerpt from their website:

quote:
Matmos is M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel, aided and abetted by many others. In their recordings and live performances over the last nine years, Matmos have used the sounds of: amplified crayfish nerve tissue, the pages of bibles turning, a bowed five string banjo, slowed down whistles and kisses, water hitting copper plates, the runout groove of a vinyl record, a $5.00 electric guitar, liposuction surgery, cameras and VCRs, chin implant surgery, contact microphones on human hair, violins, rat cages, tanks of helium, violas, human skulls, cellos, peck horns, tubas, cards shuffling, field recordings of conversations in hot tubs, frequency response tests for defective hearing aids, a steel guitar recorded in a sewer, electrical interference generated by laser eye surgery, whoopee cushions and balloons, latex fetish clothing, rhinestones on a dinner plate, Polish trains, insects, ukelele, aspirin tablets hitting a drum kit from across the room, dogs barking, people reading aloud, life support systems and inflatable blankets, records chosen by the roll of dice, an acupuncture point detector conducting electrical current through human skin, rock salt crunching underfoot, solid gold coins spinning on bars of solid silver, the sound of a frozen stream thawing in the sun, a five gallon bucket of oatmeal.

YAY!! I was a monster bjork fan in high school and college - I own dozens of her albums. My big celebrity crossover moment was discussing the music of bjork with members of the mighty mighty bosstones with DMB in the background (lame college party at Dickinson a few years back). It was like a musical pandora's box.

New cd from Bjork should be out at the end of Aug. Zero instrumentation, all vocals. Rhazel from the Roots is beatboxing a bunch of the beats apparently. Sounds a bit sketchy, but it's Bjork, so I'm sure she'll pull it off and it will rule!
